ignoring the crazy lag.. here's my take..(this post got lengthy so I Underlined the relevant answers to your question)
CoD has a superfast time to kill(TTK), this means the skill gap between players is going to be much smaller. A scrub player can win against a good player in a heads up firefight 8/10 times if he starts shooting first. Thus a scrub can have an easier time having good matches/winning aka "fun". The unfortunate side effect of a low TTK and small maps is camping, the game is less about player skill, and more about getting the 'drop' on your opponent. Skilled/average players do well, scrubs do ok.
Destiny on the other hand has a much higher TTK and slightly larger maps, making camping an obsolete tactic. The higher TTK also increases the skill gap, which makes it harder for scrub players to do well/have fun because a higher skilled player will win most of the engagements. Destiny has a nice balance between player skill and getting the drop on your opponent. The skilled players do great, average players do ok, and the scrubs, well they're scrubs.
Now for an outside example to round out the picture. I'm going to use Crysis 3. Crysis had a higher TTK than Destiny, and large maps. The armor mechanic would further increase the TTK. The stealth mechanic allowed a clever player to get the drop on his opponents reliably. These two mechanics combined with the naturally higher time to kill made for an extremely large skill gap between players. The end result is all about player skill. A handful of skilled players do extremely well, and the vast majority of other players just get wrecked.
So what does this all mean? It's quite simple, it's easier to have 'fun' for the majority of players in CoD because the playing field is more level. They're not getting wrecked constantly by highly skilled players(aka the Destiny elite). I also believe this is a major reason Crysis 3 died less than 3 months after release, people don't want to play a game they get wrecked in all the time. Could this be the cautionary tale for FPS Devs? Keep the skill gap low, keep your playerbase.

I think a higher ttk can more than make up for your scrubbiness. You can eat half a clip and still survive and run away. In cod, you make the smallest mistake you are dead. Destiny = tons of room to mess up and still get the kill. Bops3 = one small mistake and your dead. PERIOD
-
This is perfect. Solid explanation.
-
This guy knows what hes talking about! And yes i play bo3 until destiny has something i havent done 10 times already.
-
Just to point something out, Black Ops III actually has a slower time to kill than a lot of past COD's.
-
Indeed it does, and it's still crazy fast(for my tastes) and the marginal difference doesn't affect the gameplay much
-
I disagree with everything in your post.

Well said my friend, which is why I stopped playing cod since black ops 1, i miss cod4 mw, and world at War though. If I get cod now ima just wreck everybody, and get bored of being too good, plus I'm too poor to buy it lmao
-
Exactly and in addition, COD is limited. After 2 weeks, people will be bored with it.
-
If you want competitive you should play Halo. Destiny has a small skill gap that's mostly "op" weapons and supers. Blops 3 is for fun time with friends...and zambies.
-
Bad players still get destroyed 9 times out of 10 by good players in BO3. It's not always about who see who first. The game has very high mobility letting you turn gunfights in your favor very easily.

Edited by TheTruth02: 11/10/2015 8:39:28 AMTry not to think of it in terms of Good players vs bad players, perception is skewed by black and white. There are good players, you can expect them to do well in any shooter. There are decent players, these are the guys/gals that get a bag of mixed results. Then there are the scrubs, against top tier players, yeah they're gonna get wrecked most of the time. But top tier players only make up about 5-10% of the playerbase in any given game. That leaves 90% of the playerbase for them to compete with, and with a smaller skill gap, they have an easier time being competitive. Think of a line with 20 notches on it(1-20), each notch represents an average skill level, the entire line represents the skill gap. Now take 10 players and place them on a notch. Using the 10-90%, that puts 2 players at the top(notch 19 to 20) the other 8 players are spread out among the remaining 18 notches. there's not a lot of space between skill levels, meaning for the most part, players are evenly matched. Scrubs and decent players are able to be competitive with each other. This is how CoD works, they level the playing field so less skilled players can be competitive. Now take that same line that represents the skill gap, and put 100 notches on it, put 10 players on a notch, and what do you get? A much larger gap between player's individual skill levels, sure you'll get groups of similar players, but for the most part the skill levels are widely varied. This is what you see in Destiny higher skilled players dominating. You can blame it on OP weapons, but everyone is using the same weapons atm so that leads us back to individual skill with said weapons. Geez I get long winded when I'm sleepy...

I get rekt a lot in PvP but I still play. The big downside for me is the crazy in trials and some classes having more benefits over others. I would say fix the lag over everything else first.
-
The lag is awful, and I'd agree that it should be fixed first, a stable game environment is most important. Secondly I think all the weapons and classes need a re-balancing, Stats should be a little more meaningful and transparent. Let us know exactly what they do, and make min/maxing stats actually make a difference. Weapons in general need balancing in a major way. Pulse rifles are extremely stong, outside of maybe 3 auto rifles(2 exotic 1 legendary) auto rifles are still garbage in crucible. Same with handcannons now. My personal opinion is that Destiny could be great, maybe even better than Halo, but Bungie has to find that sweet spot with weapons/classes. Not an Easy task btw.

-
This. Also explains why halo takes the most skill
-
Edited by Vault of Glass: 11/9/2015 9:03:55 PMlmao it's a much higher skill gap. you need much faster reaction time and need to be able to say alive, unlike destiny where you have a damn over shield and can take multiple bullets, turn around and blast em with a shotgun or fist of panic. destiny doesn't take skill, it's fūcking scrubs paradise haha
-
Yup! Agree
-
If you're shooting someone in the back and you're close enough for them to turn around and shotgun/FoP you, or get in range to do those things, perhaps you're not as skilled as you think? I'll admit there is room for outplay, and panic supers are an oh shit I win button, but if you're getting shot in the back in CoD, you're dead, period, not chance for outplay, no skill matchup, just dead.
-
Thats not true unless you are on hardcore. Yes most of the time if you get shot in the back you will die, but i remember plenty of times being able to turn on someone and win despite them getting first shots in the back... or maybe i just played against super bad kids
-
Head Shots probably. Its rewarded in destiny. The other guy probably was shooting your body
-
No, cod requires zero skill and has since mw2. Cod is trash, just stop defending that garbage.
