The recent feud of Rock/Metal vs. Rap is predictable, emotional, and flame worthy. Not much fun, inevitable bull spit.
So, I figure, why not do a step up game? Let the lyrics do the talking of the song, and we'll see who feels stood up.
Here's how this is going to go:
-Choose a side. This is not mandatory as I'm sure the lyrics speak for themselves as they are, in fact, a bit different.
-Post your favorite PART of the song. as we do not need lengthy posts as it will make this thread obnoxious
That's pretty much it. I'm choosing the side of rap, as I feel they have more meaningful lyrics. I'll put my bid in here soon.
Remember: Your favorite PARTS of the song. (The few lines typical of any lyric site)

was visiting in africa two months ago My goal was to see all those wild animals Most excited I was when I came close to elephants They were so big and somehow so scary Something happened when I snapped a picture Three elephants surrounded me One of them ripped off all my clothes Second elephant came on me and started to spread my buttocks With its huge trunk I screamed in agony when I felt it started to shove up my ass Third elephant forced me to take its giant -blam!- in my mouth I sucked like a whore while I was ass-blam!- by elephant trunk After all it wasnt too bad at all It took only about ten minutes and -blam!- in my mouth started to -blam!- Extremely huge load of elephant sperm filled my throat and Spurted allover my face I was completely -blam!- up, but elephants had one more thing to do All three of them huffed and puffed -blam!-s on me Then they left me alone with my ripped -blam!- I'll never go to Africa again METAL UP RAP'S ASSES [Edited on 08.20.2009 11:20 PM PDT]
Posted by: Kitler How are these? This twisted wretched place shadowed by the utmost darks of hell in dreams of black beyond the bounds of a withered witch's spell where the doors surely are locked when the sun threatens to wane where shamblers dwell in dim moon light beyond the warmth of day liars line the roads at dawn watchful eyes are upon you held sacred weapons to the sacred revealed to be unleashed upon the council of hell blood flows down the streets at night where wolves cry out for flesh where a horrible curse taints the woodlands nearby with the forms of the walking dead unholy inversion of hope twisting the faith of the meek into hate driven insane by the dark one to bring forth the foul biddings he speaks the undead are among us at dawn they shrink back to their silken beds they dance by night and drink the blood of a child's broken neck his spires are growing taller still their shadows stretching throughout the land freeing the evils that sleep within the weaker minds of man into the tower never go the horrors multiply gears can mince the strongest ones leaving heroes paralyzed the rivers flow with poison the sands swallow you whole the ghouls that roam this darkened wood are thirsting for your throat
I love that song.

That's why we sing for these kids that don't have a thing Except for a dream and a -blam!- rap magazine Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long Idolize their favorite rappers and know all their songs Or for anyone who's ever been through -blam!- in they lives til' they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die til' they throw on a rap record, and they sit and they vibe We're nothing to you, but we're the -blam!- -blam!- in their eyes That's why we seize the moment, and try to freeze it and own it Squeeze it and hold it, 'cus we consider these minutes golden And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone Just let our spirits live on, through our lyrics that you hear in our songs Then it's Dream On, which is rock, and awesome.

Rock Limelight by Rush Living on a lighted stage Approaches the unreal For those who think and feel In touch with some reality Beyond the gilded cage Cast in this unlikely role, Ill-equipped to act With insufficient tact One must put up barriers To keep oneself intact Living in the limelight The universal dream For those who wish to seem Those who wish to be Must put aside the alienation Get on with the fascination The real relation The underlying theme Living in a fisheye lens Caught in the camera eye I have no heart to lie I cant pretend a stranger Is a long-awaited friend All the worlds indeed a stage And we are merely players Performers and portrayers Each anothers audience Outside the gilded cage [Edited on 08.20.2009 8:33 PM PDT]

'm betting dreams upon my paper wings Because flying isn't just for kings I take the stairs to the very top floor I paid the super to leave open the door A perfect sunset is sinking in the sky I know my body is ready to fly I start the countdown back wards from ten When I reach one my family name will end Falling down as windows pass I start to cry And curse the day my parents laid In a bed of hopelessness where love was made Please mark my grave unknown All the best cowboys have daddy issues lyrics

I'm going with Metal, particularly Metallica Fade To Black Life it seems, will fade away Drifting further every day Getting lost within myself Nothing matters no one else I have lost the will to live Simply nothing more to give There is nothing more for me Need the end to set me free Things are not what they used to be Missing one inside of me Deathly lost, this can't be real Cannot stand this hell I feel Emptiness is filing me To the point of agony Growing darkness taking dawn I was me, but now He's gone No one but me can save myself, but it's too late Now I can't think, think why I should even try Yesterday seems as though it never existed Death Greets me warm, now I will just say good-bye Eye of the Beholder Verse 1 Do You See What I See? Truth Is an Offense You Silence for Your Confidence Do You Hear What I Hear? Doors Are Slamming Shut Limit Your Imagination, Keep You Where They must Do You Feel What I Feel? Bittering Distress Who Decides What You Express Do You Take What I Take? Endurance Is the Word Moving Back Instead of Forward Seems to Me Absurd Chorus: Doesn't Matter What You See Or into it What You Read You Can Do it Your Own Way If It's Done Just How I Say Independence Limited Freedom of Choice Choice Is Made for You My Friend Freedom of Speech Speech Is Words That They Will Bend Freedom with Their Exception Verse 2: Do You Fear What I Fear? Living Properly Truths to You Are Lies to Me Do You Choose What I Choose? More Alternatives Energy Derives from Both the plus and Negative Do You Need What I Need? Boundaries Overthrown Look Inside to Each His Own Do You Trust What I Trust? Me, Myself and I Penetrate the Smoke Screen I See Through the Selfish Lie Chorus again Verse 3: Do You Know What I Know? Your Money And Your Wealth Your Silence Just to Hear Your Self Do You Want What I Want? Desire Not a Thing I Hunger after Independence Lengthen Freedom's Ring Chorus again

On my soap box yelling into megaphones. Killing hard rocks using carcasses as stepping stones. Had to promise that I'd stop holding my marches The day that Chris Columbus got crucified on golden arches. My pedestal was too tall to climb off, In fact that's the reason for the high horse. And from up here I see Marines and Hummers on a conquest; Underdogs with wonderbras in a push-up contest, All for the sake of military recruitment. It felt like Kent State the way they targeted the students, I galloped off whistling "Ohio." The rest of them, stuck doing stand up at a cricket convention. What would they die for? (repeat) Is it the same machine that leaves the quality of life poor? An abominable colony of cyborgs? Clogging up the property that I bought with eyesores? That clever ad campaign ain't worth The time taken from minimum wage labor; I don't care how half-naked or fake she looks, She smells like dirty cash and aged paper books. What would she die for? Slow down Gandhi, you're killin' em Slow down Gandhi, you're killin' em.

Be something you love and understand. Be a simple kind of man. Wont you do this for me son, If you can? Forget your lust for the rich mans gold All that you need is in your soul, And you can do this if you try. All that I want for you my son, Is to be satisfied. If you guys want some real rap, go listen to Kardinal Offishall. Here is one of his verses.
It's like I can't see the sun, six in the mornin' and still on the run day to the night brushin' around town trying to get this down 'for the kids come down, gotta feed my fate, face to face with nowhere to race except straight, I could feel 'em close on my heels, gotta keep goin' so I'm taking the wheel, gotta outrun my peers, outrun my fears, outrun the killers and escape them yeah, they gettin' so close to me, time drop that letter if you find this letter please breakaway,, yeah."
If I gave you pretty enough words, could you paint a picture of us that works? With an emphasis on function rather than design Aren't you tired? Cause I will carry you on a blown out back and broken wings I have been where you are for a while Aren't you tired of being weak? Such rage that you could scream all the stars right out of the sky And destroy the prettiest starry night every evening that I die... Metal FTW \m/
Posted by: iMatt360z "My mom, my mom" --I know you're probably tired of hearing the "my mom" oh-oh whoa-oh, but this is just a story of when I was just a shorty and how I became hooked on Va-al-iu-um. Valium was in everything: food that I ate, the water that I drank, -blam!- peas in my plate. She sprinkled just enough of it just to season my steak so everyday I had at least three stomach aches. Now tell me what kind of mother would want to see her son be grow up to be an under-a--blam!--chiever? My teacher didn't think I was gonna' be nothing, either: "What the -blam!- you stickin' gum up under the -blam!- seat for?" "Mrs. Mathers, your son has been huffing ether. Either that or the mother-blam!-'s been puffin reefer." But all of this huffin' and puffin' wasn't what it was, either. It was neither. I was buzzin', but it wasn't what she thought. Pee in a tea cup? -blam!-, you ain't my keeper. I'm sleepin'; What the -blam!- you keep on -blam!- with me for? Slut, you need to leave me the -blam!- alone; I ain't playin'. Go find you a white crayon and color a -blam!- zebra.
This is an awesome verse by him. It combines humor and emotion into one big mix of awesome [Edited on 08.20.2009 7:54 PM PDT]

I choose the rap side. These are some of my favorite lyrics that prove that rap is emotional. Lord won't ya help me and stop this pain I keep inflictin on my family, hustlin and gamblin, drinkin and scrambled and losin sight of whats supposed to be handlin, it's hard to manage, man cause everyday's a challeng, man and I became lose lost my balance and I'm trying not to panic. -Bone Thugs N Harmony It's like I can't see the sun, six in the mornin' and still on the run day to the night brushin' around town trying to get this down 'for the kids come down, gotta feed my fate, face to face with nowhere to race except straight, I could feel 'em close on my heels, gotta keep goin' so I'm taking the wheel, gotta outrun my peers, outrun my fears, outrun the killers and escape them yeah, they gettin' so close to me, time drop that letter if you find this letter please breakaway,, yeah." -Kardinal Offishall Trying to stay away from trouble everyday but it's hard 'cause the things you need, picture lookin at your babies in the face when they hungry and they need to eat, trying not to do wrong, but the judge won't let me do right -Akon

In my opinion rap has better lyrics. "Yeah, Ya Know, Sometimes Its Kind Of Confusing To Me, All These People Sitting On Their High Horses, Looking Down On Us For Smoking A Plant Or Growing A Plant. Well I Belive In Natures Laws, And I Just Wanna Be Free. From The Mountain Tops, Where The Wind Blows To The Green Valleys Down Below. Where The Snow Melts And The Rivers Flow I Just Want To Live My Life. Where The Trees Grow, And The Air Is Clean. Where Nature's Free Do To Her Thing, Everything Is One If You Know What I Mean. I Just Want To Live My Life. Im Proud To Be A Stoner, Im Proud To Be A Stoner, Im Proud To Be A Stoner. Yes I Am, For The Rest Of My Days. " I quite like this song.

Metal dosent really have meaning so much in the lyrics as it does in the meshing of the guitar , drums, bass etc. I think metal expresses feeling through the heart pummeling riffs and crazy drum solos. Where as rap depends on the vocals and the occasional beat. S if your comparing lyrics to lyrics I would have to say rap wins. However if your comparing one rap song to a metal song I think that Metal would win. But eh there's my two cents. Metal. "I am the rival I am the one who speaks in whispers Hear me now, dear, weak forgiver Don't send an angel to face the devil You're wasting power on grace".
