Only 3% of the Community even participates in ToO. Bungie fail.

Bungie, according to your "Statistics of the Week", 820,986 people participated in ToO this weekend, and of those, 133,444 made it to The Lighthouse. So, using your (bogus) statistic that 25 million people are playing Destiny, that means that only 3% of the Community even participates in this PvP endgame content. Moreover, less than 1% of the Community enjoy the rewards of Mercury! Do you consider these numbers some kind of success? You shouldn't. What you've created at the expense of the entire Community - given that every minute spent devoted to ToO development and maintenance is time/energy away from the rest of the game - is an endgame activity that a miniscule fraction of the Community even tries. I am interested in hearing other folks' opinions on whether and how ToO could be made more accessible to more people. I have two suggestions that are sure to raise the hackles of the ToO pros: 1. Once you go flawless on a particular character, that character is no longer eligible to compete in ToO until the next weekend. For those of you badass enough to do it, you can take all three of your Guardians to The Lighthouse, you simply can't keep playing on the same character once he/she has been there. 2. Provide optional matchmaking. Perhaps, go so far as to have two separate ToO: pre-made fireteams and matchmade fireteams. Hell, you could even slightly reduce the quality of the rewards in the matchmade Trials league, though this seems unnecessary, given that going flawless would be arguably harder with a matchmade team of randoms. Now, these suggestions will piss-off anyone who already thinks this game caters to casual players - which it really doesn't; a game with this much grind can't be enjoyed casually - but understand that my motivation here is to challenge Bungie to really use these numbers they vomit at us each week, and ask whether what they are doing is working. Ninety-seven percent - that's 24,250,000 players! - don't even step foot in ToO. Successful endgame content, Bungie? I think not.

    • Been saying this for months now. Trials and the ridiculous reward systems that requires flawless, is one of the dumbest things they have done. There is no reason to play trials unless you are an elitist pig. That's what they have made this event into. Those same elitists pigs will not play with anyone other than other elitist pigs. Dont believe me? Go look at the LFG's. "Need 1 more for Trials k/d above 1.5 and if you suck you will be kicked" or "Have the Y1 or Y2 flawless emblem, must have gone flawless multiple times." The elitists on the forums are the same folks that would kick others from raid party's for not having Gjallerhorn. Bungie removed that gun because of this elitist attitude, and showing how bright they are, did nothing about Trials which is the same dam thing. The elitists only care about lighthouse rewards, which the vast majority will never see. Even with the new matchmaking, they have made this even worse. By matching against other 8-0 teams, you allow even fewer people to go to the lighthouse. You have alienated a large portion of the player base from even attempting this event. Why? Because they are not the games elite PvP player base? They also payed for this game and some of them want to play this mode, but as it exists today, they cannot. This event and its reward system needs to be more like Iron Banner where everyone has the option to get the same gear via leveling up in the event and buying it, or getting an RNG drop. Either make the lighthouse accessible to the majority, or get it the hell out of the game. Right now its just a badge used for the elitists to identify themselves to each other.

        1. Locking a players characters out of an endgame activity is redundant. Firstly, while locking a character that has gone flawless could promote the use of their other characters, it could just as well diminishing to the number of people who attempt ToO with a friend. For instance, say you are with two friends, and they were a coin or two short of buying all of the boons, and only had the Mercy and Favor of Osiris. You and your friends lost a game halfway through your trials, but managed to win enough so that you are 9-0. If you don't have that extra character setup with decent gear, or you aren't skilled with that second character, your friends could possibly not make it to the Lighthouse. 2. Locking a character out of ToO after going flawless also hinders their chances at rewards. If there was ever a complaint concerning PvP and PvE rewards, it was usually either the Crucible doesn't drop much loot, or that the only way to get the best gear was in PvE. With ToO, and to a lesser extent Iron Banner, that gap can be closed. Since high level gear will only drop at a players 5th, 7th, and 9th wins when going flawless, you have less of a chance to earn high level gear than in say the raid, where loot drops at the totems, warpriest, Golgoroth, the sisters, and Oryx. Yes, you could possibly receive more loot in ToO if continue winning, but you must really earn it because of the improved win matchmaking that Bungie has.

      • Just cause 97% of people can't handle it doesn't mean they failed. It is actually the most intense fun thing this game has to offer. Better than any competition programmers could conjure up.

      • I'm just agreeing that Bungie needs to add in matchmaking for the matchmakers. I still believe people who have already formed a fireteam should be paired with other people who have formed a fireteam.

Top 1% should be the only ones getting rewards. How many people do you think actually complete Oryx on hard? Edit: The ONLY reason I even play ToO is to stop scrubs from going to the lighthouse. I go flawless on all 3 in a couple hours, then just mess around with scrubs the rest of the weekend.

Here are my thoughts basically combining one flawless per character and a separate playlist for flawless that week. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/173709064/0/0 Tldr: One flawless run in the normal playlist per character. Flawless legends playlist from the lighthouse to continue playing trials with a flawless character. This opens trials vastly more people helping the activity grow instead of stunting it to the elite only which will still get their competitive games in the new playlist

There is no point going flawless more than once on a character per week the lighthouse rewards are only available once per character per weekend they need to make new gear though reskinning armor is getting old Sincerely the guy that's not trying to keep you from getting to the lighthouse

        • I think exclusivity is kinda the point of Trials, like it's only for highly skilled players? So I'm not completely following your logic here. It's not like it takes massive resources, either, they added one vendor, a small social space, a few new weapons, and that's it. Otherwise it's IB with a different game mode.

what could make osiris better? team matchmaking, plain and simple. i live with a disabling social anxiety disorder. beyond random match making teaming up is just not an option for this guardian. despite the fact that i followed destiny for more than a year and a half before launch when it was to be a very different game, participated in the beta, was present for our first assault on the moon, pre ordered a limited edition which turned out not to be the destiny i paid for but stuck around anyway. paid for TTK and silver, i will never see the lighthouse (or a raid). with the raid i guess it could make sense to exclude people with disabilities like mine but there is no excuse for osiris, its literally just a long elimination match. with as much as i have invested its disappointing and depressing to be excluded from some of this content because of something i just cant control.

          • Bump! However I have been flawless and the rewards are a joke not playing anymore bc its not worth the headache of laggers and exploited guns and armor pieces. Need to fix the revival counter so that every time you die the enemy can see the counter on your orb and it increses by 10 secs every death.

          • One of the reasons ToO fails to draw more people in it is that its neither novel nor good. Why? 1.Its an elimination type game, Its been done to death by most multiplayer FPS. (Stale) 2.Its cheap, a single map played all week makes for boring, camp heavy gameplay. It boils down to who tires of waiting for the other and comes straight into the enemy's ambush. 3. It is too cheater friendly, Since there is both good gear and bragging rights involved people resort to every single cheap trick in the book to win. Camping, abusing unbalanced weapons, using lagswitches, or even torrenting while playing all to gain a chance to visit the lighthouse that got cut from the original game. 4. It has no matchmaking, not even optional so if you don't have 2 more friends on the mood to play ToO and STICK WITH IT! You don't get to play at all. Its even worse, a lot of people waste their available playing time on LFG and because people in ToO are doing what I mentioned on 1 and 2 their random team from LFG falls apart as people quit the moment the lose once or twice. See the trend? It became a chore fast and skill has no part in it due to the cheaters and the poor balancing job Bungie has managed so far. Honestly I don't know how it can be fixed, removing the level advantages could help with the balance but it would cause elitists to cry their eyes out. Simply put, its FUBAR.

            • Do we know if it was 820k individual accts or does it include characters, of which many folks have 2 or 3? Based on the statement that 133k 'reached' the Lighthouse, I'm inclined to think they are counting by character which would highly inflate the actual number of user accts attempting this game mode. Trying to decipher facts from Bungie's stats is challenging and we should be vigilant in how this info is interpreted b/c they like to sugar coat everything they release in a veil of uncertainty.

                • Even if this is true then it's probably because of the new system of light level and also possibly new maps. I know people who weren't aloud to participate because they weren't 310+ even though there are people who have been flawless who are not even 305. I for one dislike this new system of level disadvantage.
