Hi all you. Now, I've seen so!e threads of people bitching that Pulse Rifles are OP. I'm here to tell you otherwise, and maybe change your mind in the process.
Now, lets start off. Pulse Rifles seem so good, because on maps where their damage dropoff comes into affect the most are not chosen very often. However it is there and it is aggressive. It's still rather noticeable on many common maps, and on the longer sight lanes PR users get picked apart by Scouts, time after time. Up close, like on many of the current maps, it gets shredded by Auto Rifles time after time, provided the enemy player is capable of hitting shots. I've lost countless CQC battles to Answering Chord types because the player knew to start aiming at center mass first, before letting recoil bring the reticule up. The bullet hose types keep a PR user off his aim from the flinching happening.
They also seem OP because many people are using them. That doesn't make them OP. People are using them because they're versatile. They are a viable option at several ranges, but not the optimal option for any range except mid.
Tldr: Learn to aim better and you'll shred PR users like no tomorrow. And if they get nerfed, I can tell you already Scouts will dominate the next meta. They're already good at most ranges now.

They are OP. They have good range, stability (NIRWENS MERCY), and they make you flinch like crazy.
-
They are pretty OP, something I'm not happy about is how they don't seem to be affected as much by range drop off as other guns, hand cannons with more range have their damage drop off a lot closer than pulse rifles with less range.
-
So many people clinging to their crutch. EVERYONE is forced to using a pulse rifle to even compete. It's ridiculous.
-
I admit they're OP and I'm using one of the most OP ones there is.
-
My literal only issue with Pulses is their range. Everything else is fine. Good post.

2 RepliesIt cracks me up, it shows me a lot of players are sheep and will use whatever "elite" players use, I've tried them all including the new trials one and i still prefer hawkmoon. Take the #1 gun hawksaw, it's crap I dismantled mine, but almost everyone is using it, I enjoy it cause there easier to kill than thorn users were lol. Since xur sold the supercell every scrub in the crucible is using it too

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

They're OP if the correct ones are used and are in the right hands. They're like Shotguns, only the good ones are OP, the rest suck! Hawksaw, Nirwen's Mercy, Red Death, Bad Juju, and The Villiany are over-powered, but the rest are fine. Just like how the Conspiracy Theory-D and Party Crasher +1 are over-powered Y2 Shotguns.

1 ReplyThey need a range or stability debuff but other than that preforming as intended.
-
3 RepliesOf course you can lose a fight if you're out of optimal range. This has always been the case with every "OP" weapon Destiny has had. The problem occurs when your weapons optimal range covers too much ground. It lacks realistic weakness. If i move into a range where a scout rifle will reliably win vs pulse, I've also moved into the perfect spot for 1000 yard staring contest. If i move into hand cannon or AR range where they reliably win vs pulse, It's a slides distance from conspiracy theory. Im not saying that pulse rifles need to be nerfed, or that other weapons need to be buffed, but it's pretty clear that pulse rifles dominate most ranges. It's not only mid range. It extends into long range without damage fall off, and into closer ranges with high damage per burst. It's unbalanced. In comparison to the other guns, pulse rifles are currently overpowered
-
2 RepliesThey have nearly no range dropoff on most crucible maps (Not enough to need an axtra full burst to kill). They rival scouts for stability and have a huge damage output for prinaries. Damage: Check Range:Check Stability:Check No downsides to them.
-
Pulses are fine, other things just need slight buffs
-
Not OP but unbalanced for the most part. Only high impact hand cannons can compete.
-
They aren't OP but they ARE the meta atm and are very good
-
Bump for truth.
-
DONT -blam!-ING NERF PULSE RIFLES!
-
1 Replypulse rifles aren't OP everything else just sucks
-
5 RepliesPulse rifle are not op Autos and hand cannons need a buff Couldn't hurt to give scouts a little love
-
Just too much range. They compete with scout riffles
-
They are a tab bit ridiculous at the moment, they do everything better than the other primaries. Pretty much PRs take the range stat that affects the others and spit in its face
-
They need to give hand cannons their accuracy back and increase reserve ammo. Auto rifles need a slight damage buff. Pulse rifles need a slight range nerf to not be able to compete with scouts at mid-long range. Scouts are fine the way they are. Pulse rifles are the best in the meta right now but I wouldn't call them OP.
-
1 ReplyPulse rifles don't need a nerf, everything else needs a buff.
-
2 RepliesI think you bring up a really important point here. The damage fall-off on weapons is such an important factor now. If you don't pay attention to your set up, how you like to play, and what the map requires, you are going to have a bad time. As you say, Pulse rifles have a good effective range and are going to be the easy choice for most maps - Add in high stability variants and you have a gun that win you fights at a lot of common ranges. But you will get owned by a Scout user who knows their range and where they need to be. High Impact ARs with good range stats are also going to cause you grief. If you read the pre release patch notes on the balancing, you can see a lot of this stuff come into play. Don't play crucible they way you think it ought to be. Play crucible the way it is. Knowing where your optimal range is helps you decide which encounters to engage in and which to avoid. Pay attention to your weapon choice, as this determines where you need to be to be effective.

1 ReplyIf they aren't, neither was Thorn.
-
All they need is to be less accurate from the hip. Make them more awkward in CQC.
-
Because Bungie likes making tiny maps.
