Location: Void Wolves dropship, en route to VINC fleet Baldr sits in the gunship, loathing his current situation as messenger. He truly saw no reason for this, when it could have been done over the comms network much more easily, but he knew when not to question Sigmar. He stands, walks to the cockpit, and awaits contact from VINC A.T.C. Location: Battle Barge Bersærker The cargo hold of the ship bustles with activity as the last of the search and rescue teams return from Russ's Folly, and tally up the losses and the missing. Two whole squads missing or dead, with three confirmed KIA, and two seriously wounded. Gorm had been through worse situations, but he still felt as though he'd failed his brothers among the Sons. The bombardment begins shortly, and he knew that soon there wouldn't be any survivors to look for, if anyone still aboard the Russ's Folly was even alive. Location: ??? Brother-Sergeant Jarle awakens to find himself stuck in the same cavern as earlier, and attempts to drag himself from underneath the rock. He succeeds in doing so after some effort, but upon gathering his senses and looking around the chamber, his eyes meet memories that he fears more than his own death. Flashback Jarle looks down to his feet, and picks up the human who had dared to strike him with his weapon moments before. 'You foolish whelp, have you no sense? You'd dare assault an Astartes with a weapon so weak?!?!' He couldn't believe the stupidity presented to him by this man, and decided the man would pay for it dearly. 'All we wanted was for you and your colony to hand over your supplies, and say nothing.' He holds the man up by his neck, and uses his other arm to rip his ribcage open. The man blacks out immediately, and Jarle pulls his organs out as the mans lifeblood pours onto the floor. After dropping the corpse to the ground, he straps the organs to his scout armor, and heads for the exit. He doesn't get too far, before he realizes there is another person hiding in the room, and that they were watching him..... Return to present Jarle panics, and in a rush to get away from what he sees in front of him, he stumbles upon the exit to the cavern. With no pause, he runs from the cavern, and enters a familiar landscape in a mountainous region of Terra's north.
Open. Baldr is looking for VINC officers, and Jarle has ended up on Terra. • Upon moving in close to the Venom Incorporated cordon, several F/A-18F Super Hornets, each bearing the company's insignia, and their squadron's insignia, move in behind and to the sides of the drop ship. The six fighters maintain speed with the dropship and seem to be making sure it is not hostile. The fleet, however, is nowhere to be seen. A transmission is sent from one of the aircraft at the head of the group as it moves up next to the dropship. The pilot seems stern, but following orders. Imperial dropship, you are entering Venom Incorporated airspace. This is Lieutenant Young of VFA-122, Raiders. State your intentions.

  • The dropship stays on its course, and powers down its weaponry as a signal of non-hostility. 'Lt, this is Captain Helsson of the Void Wolves, I've been tasked with bringing a message to Venom Command. We've powered down our weaponry, and are prepared to land at your word.'

  • A reply comes back immediately. Roger that, Captain. Make ready for landing aboard the Archangel, flight deck runway B. The aircraft continue on course with the transport craft, and suddenly, the entire fleet, all 73 ships are visible, as are other patrol and combat aircraft. The Archangel appears to be the first carrier at the head of all the others, behind several battleships and battlecruisers.

  • 'Copy that, moving for landing now, we'll be down shortly.' The dropship follows the fighters until it closes with the Archangel, and then drops itself to the carrier with unthought caution. Upon landing, and shutting down its engines, Baldr steps out of the dropship via the rear ramp and stands on the deck of the carrier, waiting for a greeting crew or for a member of Venoms command structure to appear.

  • On the deck of the carrier, day to day operations are carried out with an unparalleled efficiency. Aircraft aboard the Ford-class supercarrier are loaded, refueled, and readied for launch as the fleet continues combat support and cordon patrol. A group of soldiers approaches the vessel, weapons in hand, but not drawn. They all appear to be in combat hardsuits, each bearing the company's logo in the shoulder pauldron. Before the men, a familiar figure appears, his cloak down from his recognizable black and white mask. All of his weapons are in his holsters, and his cloak ripples in the wind brought on by the sea and the aircraft onboard. He walks forward to see the Imperial, and speaks, his voice American, metallic. Well, well, look who's come for a friendly little visit? How nice of you to swing by... So what's got you boys coming out to my fleet? That's not exactly a normal occurrence.

  • Baldr keeps an eye on the activity on deck, and shakes his head. Naval life was far from appealing, either on the seas or among the stars. His Terminator armor, a particularly ancient piece of equipment, groans as he turns to look at the men, and he speaks over his vox-caster. 'We're preparing to leave, so we've come to let you know that we won't be running patrols in the outskirts any longer. I'm not privy to the reason for our leave, but I'm almost positive that Sigmar has tired of fighting on Terra, since our friend among them has disappeared.'

Aye.... Shame to lose good men. I've lost my fair share here as well. War has a habit of taking the lives of those with true dedication, true ability.

  • 'That it does. Sigmar has ordered the Chapter to stand down, and prepare to leave for Jotun. He ordered me to leave the news with you, and to let you know that Caliph will also be abandoned, so that you can adjust your plans accordingly.'

  • Thank you for informing me... Something I can't say the rest of the Imperium is fond of doing.... I'll send that in to high command and adjust as such, then.

  • 'Its just as well that we aren't Imperials. We try to think about things before we leave a theatre of war, as such we deemed it necessary to inform you of the change, as walking up to Imperium Command would likely have ended in a fight.'

  • Not to sound rash, but the Imperium is rather... Divided. Some of you are tactical, you understand the value of men and resources, and others seem to think they can constantly rush and waste lives to achieve victory... Sad that the ones lacking sense and knowledge find their way to the top.

  • 'Thats the issue with large groups, they lose track of where the effective leaders are, and substitute them with the inexperienced. Thats why our Chapter is democratic in our decision making, since its our lives on the line. Another issue with the Imperium at large is its lack of decency.'

  • Decency has its place in politics and society, but not in war. The problem with the Imperium is their failure to notice the difference between the two.

  • 'I was speaking of their mistreatment of citizens of their own domain. I'm certain you've seen this for yourself, or have at least heard stories. Decency isn't meant for the battlefield, the closest it comes is honorable duels fought between two foes, but those rarely ever happen.'

  • Failure to properly serve that which supports you is asking for insurrection.

  • 'The citizens are treated in a similar manner to slaves, well, at least we feel that way about the Imperium's social issues. I wouldn't blame them if they rebelled against their leadership.'

  • History repeats itself, I suppose. People often fail to realize their mistakes until it's too late, and often ignored those same mistakes of the past.

  • 'Unfortunately, the majority of the citizens have no means of retaliating. Even the ones that do would have a hard time bringing about change, considering the Inquisition can just destroy the planet and remove the event from the Imperiums records. Unfortunately for this discussion, I've got to pack my equipment, so I suppose we'll leave it here. Fight well, or may your death be swift.' With that, his armors joints heave as he returns himself to the dropship. After he boards and the ramp closes, the dropship jumps to life and lifts itself from the deck, before leaving at a relatively slow pace.
