Pulse rifles are really strong in medium range combat, which is relevant on most maps. The difference between a scout rifle and pulse rifle effective range is irrelevant on most maps. I don't feel trapped by them, though. I've experienced a big auto rifle revival. Shaxx asks me to kill peeps with every primary, so it has been a good experience trying to figure out where the weaknesses of each primary ends and my own ineptitude with them begins.
