Just found this is in #feedback. It needs a read.
You are crack on. The individual gun nerfs were PvP related, but the wholesale rendering of all year one weapons and gear to worthless? No one wanted that, there was no hew and cry. That was Bungie course correcting and a complete reversal of DeeJ's own words. Not that we are not used to that... Seriously, point to any post that complained about field scout, firefly, or the variety of gun perks we had. Final round? Sure. Shot package and range finder? Sure. Where did anyone post, "I sure wish Nightfall rewards would be removed, the XP bonus and great weapon drops!"? Where did anyone post, "You know, people do these old raids too much. If only there was some way to make the year one content completely irrelevant..."? Where did anyone post, "I'm tired of playing the old stuff. I wish they would paywall or close off entirely large pieces of the game..."? Place the blame where it belongs - squarely in the lap of a group of "developers" who are quickly gaining a reputation for unerringly making decisions which make their "MMO" more confined, restricted, and less fun with each "addition".
I agree- this man has literally summed up the devs and this game as a whole.

  • This really sucks, I'm thinking this happened due to budget constaints, meaning they didn't have the resources to bring the other strikes/raids up to year 2 changes.

  • Y1 = extended beta. Y2 = extended better beta after having a chat with some guys from blizzard Y3 = better badder beta Y4 = better badder beta with benefits Y5 = the ghally comes back. Everything starts again in an endless loop until y10 where bungie get bought out by 343. Twist!

This argument is flawed in the sense that the developers should be making changes based solely on what players want. Sometimes the things players want are bad for the game. Vanilla weapons were created in a way that it left very few end game options, and the only way to expand that weapon base without leaving them behind was an inevitable power creep that would either trivialize encounters, or make enemies even larger bullet sponges. Field scout, range finder, final round, etc., complained about or not, these perks either allowed people to make unbalanced weapons, or abuse in game mechanics. They need to be changed or removed. Some things were changed to limit how fast you could progress, like nightfall rewards. Otherwise people blow through content and then complain. Did they do it the right way? No. It needs to be fixed (again). Yes, I will agree that limited the amount of strikes was a bad move. They should seek to expand their base to revive old strikes and raid. And while I am sure being edgy is fun, and your trying to lend yourself some credibility by worrying about your thread being taken down, it won't be. Not by the ninjas. If enough people report it, it gets temporarily removed until a Ninja can restore it.

      • What happened to the variety within the strikes, making each strike feel different, even if you run them over and over and over and.......you get the point. Really, sprinkling in a few fallen here and there, c'mon man. There was a time, in the not so distant past (less than two months ago) when you could do VOG normal and hard, Crota normal and hard POE 4 levels, nightfall, weekly and daily AAANNND It mattered on three characters, if you so cared to do that. Now we get (soon) 3 levels of a raid. Where they try to trick us into thinking it is "new" by turning it up to 11 and changing the color of the weapons and adding a slight name change. This is the only aspect of the game (pve) that can be done by all your characters and still matter. Strikes that only matter for 3 runs. Daily that can only be run by one character and nightfalls that aren't as valuable as previous year. I still like and play the game of Destiny. The fellow guardians I have met over the last year, also add to the fun of the game. But we did receive less material, than we had last year. We did not get what was promised or hyped. YES I KNOW WE CAN STILL DO THE OLD RAIDS AND MATERIAL. BUT THEY ARE NOT RELEVANT TO THE CURRENT LEVELING SYSTEMS.

        • I think one of the main things that makes this game seem so limited, other than the fact that they made year one irrelevant, is that there are only three characters and three character slots. But even if you play all three characters, there is no real incentive to play one over the other. Sure they have their own respective abilities, some of which may seem OP based on opinion, but in the end their abilities are the only thing that make them unique. Most of the armor and weapons, save for most exotic armor, have nothing to do with specific classes. Once a player finds a weapon or piece of armor with good perks, they will most likely copy and paste that same setup to their other characters. With the Taken King expansion, Bungie introduced the idea of class specific weapons, but no part of those weapons makes them class specific other than Bungie saying they are and locking them to specific classes. A Titan and Warlock can use a sniper just as well as a Hunter if they are good at using snipers. Imagine if there were 9 different characters, one for each subclass. Imagine how much more we could do with the characters if each subclass had specific armor and weapons. For example, a weapon for the Warlock Solar class that had a perk such as "Getting 3 rapid kills while Radiance is active increases the duration of Radiance". That is just an example, but hopefully you get the point. Plenty of other MMO's have tons of characters and gear specific to those characters because those characters are specialized to use that gear. Like in Borderlands 2, the Assassin has a sniper perk tree to increase critical damage and other effective uses while using a sniper. Other classes can still use a sniper but if you wanted the most dps on boss, you would want an Assassin that is skilled with snipers. I am not saying that Destiny should copy all these other MMO's, but it could take some elements from them. Look at how popular games like Borderlands and Skyrim are compared to Destiny. A big reason for this was the variety of gameplay offered by using different characters and classes. The only difference between classes in Destiny is that one class might be a little better at dps or crowd control than the other. I think if Destiny wants to survive in the future, they should consider things like making classes more useful. This is just my opinion though and I dont expect anyone to agree with it and I would hope that nobody takes offense to this. After all, it is just a game.

          • I admit that I also got a little butt-hurt over making gear that I spent a lot of time earning last year worthless but I have also just decided to let it go and move on. It's done and not likely to be undone regardless of what gets posted on these forums. Still, there are other ways that the old raids could be made at least relevant again without the inevitable "loot farming" that will follow if year 2 gear is included. They could offer Motes, Legendary Marks, Shards, all manner of stuff that's otherwise hard to get. Weapon parts maybe? Hell! I would run it if they just brought of the difficulty to 41 or 42! They were fun! I don't need a carrot to want to run them again.
EDIT 1: 15 minutes in. Ninjas have not yet silenced me... This is an odd sight. It's only a matter of time before this is censored by bungie, or I'm banned.
Okay you had a good post going till you posted this ignorant bullshit. Let me explain how things get taken down. If enough forum users report your topic, it will be automatically removed. This doesn't mean the Ninjas took it down, it means the community took it down. But it's not gone forever, eventually it makes its way in the Ninja's queue where is then reviewed when it comes up. Reviewing isn't quick process. Ninja's must actively check every reply to see if there is a reason why so many people report it. Eventually, they come to find out it was nothing offensive and they release it. What you said is blatant ignorance. If it weren't for Ninja's, mob rule would control what people see because they could just spam report till its auto taken down. If anything, Ninja's are the reason why you can have a different opinion and still be protected by the mob because at the end of the day, they will return the post back after its had its review. Whenever you see your favorite posts that are against the majority, remember that it is auto taken down by the report system. This may seem like Bungie censorship but it's just the way the report system works. You won't be banned. Your thread might be gone temporarily because it angered the mob, but you should be thankful that Ninja's will eventually restore it.

            • I will say this... the fact that Y1 weapons are now irrelevant doesn't bother me much. I'm all for moving forward. Did I enjoy using Fatebringer and VoC? Yes. But that is all I ever used as a primary. Now because the Y1 guns are left behind, and the elemental damage has been removed from almost all primaries, I find myself using a much bigger mix and match of weapons which adds a level of diversity to the game that I am currently really enjoying.

            • It's called an expansion, shouldn't it expand the content instead of limiting it to just the expanded stuff? Let the expansion speak for itself. Don't put an ultimatum on the game of "buy the new content or be locked out of material you previously had without the expansion"

            • I've moved on. Destiny threw its shit at the wall with this DLC. It's good content. It's a lot of content. But for this to be the major expansion? Listen Bungie. You claim destiny to be an MMO. Take notes from MMO's. Make your game itself free. You -blam!-ed up so hard by not doing that. Make DLC cost money with micro transactions that only benefit the PvE aspect of the game and don't -blam!- with the PvP. That's how all other MMO's that still survive work. And honestly, with how many mistakes you've made in the year you had to get your shit together, I'm gone. There's a big problem when a game that uses a single map for each game mode is more enjoyable with better replay ability than your MMO. I'm referring to MOBA's for those that don't know. LoL, Dota, and smite.

                • Not all changes were made in response to complaints. (which given the PURE VOLUME of, I'm not surprised some ppl don't know that) Some of the changes were made to get people to use a larger variety of guns and to get away from guns that trivialized content (like gjallahorn) That said, all the decisions made fall into Bungie's lap, and not all of them have paid off.

                • You're beating a dead horse, bro. In the end, I'm glad they did that. It forced me to use completely new gear, and kept things interesting. It forces you to adapt. You must move on, or be left behind. If you can't and/or don't want to, than you probably shouldn't do any endgame activities As for the field scout nerf, nobody asked for it. However, I remember reading in the patch notes that it had something to do with those perks never really sacrificing something, but still giving a lot in return. They were very important perks that altered the gameplay of the entire gun in some circumstances.
