In the previous DLC, iron banner armor dropped below the max light (you had to ascend it with etheric light that you could buy in the iron banner), but trials armor dropped at max light. You could get your character to max light by playing either PVP or PVE which was great for all playstyles.
Currently, there is no way to reach 320 light by playing only pvp, however you absolutely can get there by playing only PVE :
* You can get up to three 310+ legendary armor drops per character per week from the hard raid (possible from golgoroth, daughters, oryx) ..and up to five 310+ legendary weapons from the hard raid (possible totems, warpriest, golgoroth, daughters, oryx).
* You can't get any 310+ legendary armor, legendary special weapons, or legendary heavy weapons from pvp right now and you can only get *one* 310+ legendary primary weapon per week (and only if you can go flawless!), which is much harder than doing the totems in the raid!
I think this should be changed - Pvp players should have a pathway to max light if they only want to play PVP (via the legendary trials armor set for example). Getting *one* guaranteed 310+ legendary armor piece from 5 wins on a trials card seems like it would be more than reasonable (even if its much less than what you can potentially get in pve). Trials special and heavy weapons should also drop at 310+ for the same reason.
I mostly play PVE myself, but I have a lot of friends who prefer PVP. Destiny has always been about encouraging both playstyles and should continue to do so.

Raids are end game. Trials are competitive not end game. End game requires higher level trials does not. Why does trials now drop ALOT of end game gear even more so than the raid. If trials is going to be end game as well now then they should get as much crap rewards as raid but trials gives you double the amount of drops at least. I have almost multiple full sets of gear and weapons not including what came out of the bounties or the lighthouse. Avg. 6-8 drops on each character all 300+ and I didn't even play it that muxh. You only receive what 5 possible drops in raid

Trials gear should have a chance drop on wins 6 through 9 once per week per character at 310 plus.

1 ReplyIf you're only playing PvP you literally have zero need to get to 320 light, or even 310 light for that matter. In trials and IB, your light modifier stops scaling somewhere around 300. The only thing in the game where having above 300 light is remotely necessary is the raid. So I fail to see how you think you deserve endgame rewards without doing said endgame content. Not trying to be rude, but it just doesn't make any sense.

I'm surprised it didn't set the cap 50 light levels above 320 and start out at max level!

It will be if it isn't yet.
