So sidearms are still kinda new. But so underwhelming. I like the idea. Love the designs. But why do they have such terrible perks? Almost all have the lame perks like "better stability and reloading when last living member of fireteam". What's with that crap? So that perk is useless if you are solo?
Now how crazy enjoyable would they be with firefly? Full auto anybody? Perhaps anything other than more damage with two or more enemies around you?
In summary is just like to say that it's a completely useless class of weapon. No range or impact, sooooo.... What's the point? Besides fun factor, there are just too few reasons to ever equip these. Here's to hoping something will be done with these.
Edit 1: well it seems these aren't too shabby in PvP. I don't PvP if I don't have to. Don't even waste ur time looking at my stats, pure garbage. Only time I PvP is for quest and that turns into a mess. I need to pick up the pigeon apparently. I do want that one too.
Edit 2: Lets just keep this sidearm talk going. What are good rolls? What are effective pairings? What kinds of uses are ppl getting out of them?
Edit 3: Loving the input here. I'm really hoping there are ppl getting help from this topic. I foresee some nasty crucible matches around the corner.

5 RepliesEdited by Kirby235711: 11/12/2015 10:47:34 PMThere are some speculated buffs to sidearms that may happen later this month. I honestly hope that the update also comes with a new exotic sidearm maybe? Since there's literally 4 options in pve, with the biggest difference between them all being one has 3 less rounds, a new sidearm would be a welcome addition. By the way, with the full auto perk with that high RoF and 12 rounds, your magazine would be drained in two seconds.

Sidearms are basically the anti-shotgun weapon. Backpedallng while unleashing a load while they try to charge you is an easy win. Its also good for primaries with little ammo and/or slow reload times. Being able to hotswap to a sidearm to pop off a few to finish a kill instead of reloading is crucial. Just dont charge against some one face to face unless in close-mid range

1 ReplyI can understand your skepticism. I didn't think much of them until I got 2 to drop dieting iron banner. Ironwreath-D Reactive Reload Battle Runner HC rounds This was my first drop. It can take about a 3rd of your mag for one kill. After kills, i reload and i get extra damage. Also, i was running a speed hunter and with the added speed from Battle Runner, I was quick footed. Ironwreath-D Reactive Reload Hot Swap HC rounds Basically the same add the other except with less speed and bonus accuracy when switching to sidearm. Did feel as dominate but still felt good. Overall, in pvp, my k/d noticeably increased. Sidearms compliment my playstyle. In pve, not quite as much versatility. I prefer sniper rifles.

3 RepliesIf anyone has a link to topic/video/etc... on using sidearms effectively - please share I suspect I'm doing something completely wrong with them - (I've got the one from last IB)
-
I like my ib sidearm with rangefinder and outlaw I can smoke a guy that's running around with a shotgun or someone close that's using a pulse rifle or a scout rifle I'm not the best by far so it cracks me up when a scrappy PvP player beats someone else with a sidearm
-
My havok pigeon says otherwise. Rumble was the last match I played on my huntard last night vs all shotgunners and I used this. Imo they didn't expect it.

2 RepliesSide arms are great for pvp, not so much for pve. They have miniscule TTK if you're hitting crits. Some good main perks:
Feeding frenzy Crowd control Hotswap Zen moment Reactive reload Outlaw
The secondary perks aren't so important, since they already have such fast reload, handling, and high stability, the good ones are
Appended Magazine High Calibre Rounds(I think this is a possible roll)
Full auto would be nasty on a sidearm, although they already shoot pretty much as fast as you can pull the trigger. Maybe for an exotic? Also don't forget that you ALWAYS spawn with ammo for them as an Intrinsic perk, and all the new TTK sidearms have the Hakke perk so they almost feel like hitscan weapons. (if you didn't know, sidearms aren't hitscan, they're like fusion rifles, they have travel time, it's very apparent on the Vestian dynasty) I'd like some variety though, every sidearm being a Hakke one(bar vestian) is boring. Variety is the spice of life.

They're great in tight maps against shotguns.
-
Sidearms are the airplane food of the destiny universe......just a joke thats not even funny
-
4 RepliesHoW and enter sidearms. They were OK, but not nearly as useful as a shotgun They were completely outclassed at the same range. They were kinda new, and there were only 2 in the game. Enter TTK and there seems to be only 1. The same Hakke sidearm appears over and over again. Its better that it hit scans now, but again totally underwhelming. This vs a pulse rifle? ha.

1 ReplyHavoc Pidgeon has the best perks for a sidearm, though the silencer seems to affect its RPM. I personally love side arms, really work to finish the job in tights situations in both PvE and PvP. We really do need more variation though.
-
Shame that they got shafted pretty hard. It's either Shotgun or Sniper or bust. They're still viable though. Just not as used as the other specials
-
Kind of hate them.
-
Just tried the combination of Sidearms and NLB ... Pretty good
-
The strange thing about side arms is that any of the perks that alter the stats only make a tiny difference. Side arms make decent fake primary weapons in Burn situations. But, you could just as easily use a fusion rifle and be more successful.
-
2 RepliesFirefly. I don't think that would work so well. Side arms are more panic weapons than precision weapons. Full auto would be amazing on these weapons. Talk about a hold out weapon... I can see it now.... Too close for scout rifle? Too Close for your Pulse rifle? Did the accuracy nerf on your hand cannon cause you to leave your enemy with just a sliver of health, and your weapon out of ammo? Just pull out your full auto side arm, and panic spray that idiot down. Oh yes..... this would be amazing.

1 ReplyDude a full auto sidearm...that would be even worse than tlw back in the days
-
1 ReplyPerhaps if there were different variations... Only what a Glock and a Sig? Where are all the Fallen or Hive or Vex type sidearms. The Dynasty was cool and all. Perhaps thats why. Why not throw in SMGs like a Mac 10 and MP 7?

1 ReplyEdited by Urban Shade: 11/2/2015 8:21:32 AMGuy clearly hasn't tried havoc pigeon with range finder. The true meaning of fun
-
1 ReplyThey're nice for Hobgoblins. They won't trigger their defenses if you shoot em with a sidearm.
-
Edited by blades of honor: 11/2/2015 8:49:25 AMIf you land back to back heashots the ttk is pretty quick & they have good range. Yes when you first use them, most kick like a mule but once you get use to them it is pretty easy to do. Idk what the flinch multiplier is on sidearms but it seems decent. I'd like triple tap & crowd control on one
-
I love sidearms
-
4 RepliesWtf does improved muzzle velocity even mean?
-
1 ReplyMy hunter is a sidearm champ, and he mains a handcannon.
-
One thing that disappoints me with the new ones is unlike vestian dynasty they don't send enemies flying off in flames or void like vestian used to with the arc damage.
-
I use the IB one just out if shotgun range and they're deadly
