Depends on the step, if you already leveled it up and infused it to 280 and started the next step in the quest you should be good to go.

I have the part 5 of the exotic sword quest... Had a level 296 legendary sword and dismantled ... So can i get a exotic one by doing part 5 or no ? (kill alaktul and the other one in 30 sec)
