The First Curse was awarded to me last week. I must have been one of the few to get it so early. I had turned in all my Gunsmith research after getting the Nightfall rep boost that first week before TTK launched, so I think that's what made it possible. After a week of using it in Crucible and PVE, I feel I have a decent understanding of the weapon.
A lot of you fellow guardians will be getting this gun today. Don't be fooled, this is not a trash weapon. The First Curse has the highest impacts of any hand cannon in the game, providing crucible kills in 2 hits regularly on players running agility or recovery builds. The time-to-kill can compete with the current Pulse Rifle meta as the extra movement speed given to you by the first curse while aiming can make you strafe past full pulse bursts. I frequently out-shoot pulse users if we are at mid-short range distances. Longer ranges will give you trouble. It is a lethal performer in 3v3 gameplay - especially with coordination. One shot from the 'Curse will combo with a melee or grenade with perfect lethality - even besting shotgunners at close range if you can get the drop.
The range is low, but since I don't believe Hand Cannons should be able to snipe people, it doesn't bother me. (take a Desert Eagle to a shooting range sometime and see how accurate you are pushing 50 yards - yeah. didn't think so. ) Really the only downfall with this weapon in Crucible is the reload. The First Curse buff goes away on every reload.. so it makes you unsure when to reload your weapon if you think you want to hold onto the buff a little longer. The buff is essential for extra acquisition at further ranges. It can be a lifesaver from time to time... but this can create some unfortunate situations of not having enough ammo to finish off an opponent because you decided to hang on to the buff.
It excels in strafing while aiming. Try it with max agility, try it with weapons of light to get guaranteed 2-shot kills from almost any range. Try it with Gunslinger's Trance or Chain of Woe. Complement the weapon and it will reward you in Crucible. Overall I would strongly recommend it for PVP. It's a great weapon! Give it a shot, see for yourself. Don't listen to the hate. With max agility, this thing is going to DESTROY in Trials. You will strafe as fast as the MIDA while aiming. You'll see!! I can only imagine how devastating this would be when paired with Knucklehead Radar on Hunters.
Now for PVE - does it perform? This is a harder question to answer.
The triple tap and ridiculous impact make for some quick work on regular mobs. I typically 1-shot every TTK non-major mob with ease. I think the only ones that take some work are Taken Centurions. It's terrible at killing shields (like most kinetic HCs), but makes up for it with headshot damage once the shields are broken. Overall, it's an ok weapon to take into PVE. You'll typically find yourself wondering if you should use your exotic slot for something else with more pizazz to it. It's effective, though, so don't feel like you're wasting your exotic slot for nothing. I think if you want to use it in PVE, you'll do okay - as long as you pair it with a sturdy shield burster. I'd recommend pairing it with either of these combos: Fusion / Sword combo, Shotgun or Sidearm / HMG combo, or lastly a Sniper / Rocket Launcher combo. You'll honestly do solid even in the hardmode raid with it, getting easily over 5,000 damage per headshot. Just be sure to stow it away during Oryx.. your fireteam will boot you if you aren't using the Touch of Malice :P
-----EXOTIC ARMOR to PAIR with THE FIRST CURSE-----
***** Transversive Steps*****
Increased crouch movement speed. Picking up ammo will fill mag of that ammo type. In addition to strafing at god-tier speed with this gun, we will be able to do so while crouched and off-radar... this should also refill the mag without reloading the weapon when walking over a primary ammo drop (kills will make primary ammo drop in crucible) - keeping The First Curse buff active continuously.
***** Radiant Dance Machines *****
Increased movement speed. Stack on the increased movement speed of First Curse. 'Nuff said.
***** Sealed Ahamkara Grasps *****
Chance to refill primary mag on melee damage - paired with two melees.. this is lethal. Getting this to proc off a ranged melee would be ideal - it would keep the First Curse buff active continuously.
***** Glasshouse *****
Extended weapons of light for a longer rampage of 2-shot guaranteed kills.

Lastly, people have asked for a numeric score. So here goes:
Design: 10/10 (talk about a sleek-looking brushed metal with a simplistic finish. the green LEDs! the black matte underbarrel!)
TTK: 9/10 (one of the easiest primary weapons to chain ability combos with at ANY range - guaranteed. hawkmoon is as fast, but not guaranteed - only 23% of the time will it perform the same)
Range: 8/10 (it's shorter than some hand cannons, but feels right for its bulk and handling)
Perks: 10/10 (high potentials here - especially when paired with exotic armors)
--------------------
Overall: 9.25/10
I think this is just about a perfect all-around Exotic weapon as it is. Why? Because it's unique, not a clone (I'm looking at you Eyasluna and Hawkmoon), it requires certain skill and patience to master, it had to be earned, and lastly - it complements exotic armor unlike any other primary weapon. The only other exotic out there that I can think of that works specifically with exotic armor choices is the MIDA Multi-Tool. This is not going to be a beast in the hands of everyone, but the masters of it will be forces to be reckoned with and guardians of a certain mettle. Watch out for it in Trials. It will be a common sight!
EDIT:
Call me naïve, hate on as you wish. I stand by everything I said. I never claimed to be the greatest at Hand Cannons, nor am I an expert at Hand Cannons in general. This is coming from a non-sweaty, casually competitive Destiny player that has been here since the Alpha. Here's some honest gameplay from the past week - a lot of it was either Salvage, Rift, or Mayhem since that's what the playlist was last week:

Good luck out there with your First Curse, guardians! I hope this helps! Feel free to post your own opinions of the weapon below :) For me personally, I'll be alternating between my First Curse and my Uffern HC4 that I received today for the foreseeable future.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST -> WE NEED YOU TO HELP GET A YEAR 2 HARD LIGHT!!! Vote/bump here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/148145603/0/0

I'm excited to finally unlock this weapon! I'm glad someone likes it. I've noticed that weapon popularity for some reason determines a weapon's effectiveness. Everyone runs 1000 yard stare but is it really that much better than any other sniper? No. Just easy to get and decent at what it does. Stepping outside the box and using this thing sounds awesome and I can finally have another awesomme HC besides Thorn (BECAUSE RNG IS STUPID AND WONT GIVE ME MY FAVORITE GUN TYPE)

Edited by Starrk01: 1/25/2016 11:54:16 AMI read a bunch of bad reviews for this gun, and I hate to say I was swayed by how bad they said this gun was. That being said I love me some hand cannons, and decided to give it a go in the crucible and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by it! The high impact and aim assist dominate in close to midrange battles. Coupled with smoke bomb and agility, you can move out of the way quickly enough to find cover negating the slow reload time. If you play this gun smart and outfit yourself according, this gun will NOT disappoint!

Incoming FC buff to range and the First Curse perk will now reload the mag. Awesome.

3 RepliesGreat review, now all i have to do is get a 7 headshot kill spree in crucible with imprecation :(
-
1 ReplyI don't understand the fuss about this gun, I mean the exotic perks are mediocre, but the aim assist alone is enough for and exotic slot imo. I'm loving the gun for the sole reason of the aim assist and the impact together
-
1 ReplyI'm actually shocked to see a "gun guide" like this. However, it was pretty damn helpful. 8/8, m8.
-
Yes,I knew this gun isn't crap. I'm starting the quest next week. Reached rank 4 last saterday.

2 body shot kill?

3 RepliesI thank you for the best and most honest review of this gun that i have seen to date, I picked this gun up two days ago but i haven't had a chance to use it yet because Halo 5 came out, First thing i noticed was that the gun felt really really nice to use like really smooth. It felt skill full and had a decent damage rate. I think it feels addictive to get kills with this gun :P ( note: i have only used it in pve and i havent gotten the final perk unlocked on it yet. ) I was so happy when i realised the No land Beyond wasnt a trash weapon and that it was actually really good, i feel as though this gun suffers from the same mentality. Those who cant aim and place themselves at good map control points will have a bad time using this. Looks like its time to take a short brake from halo 5 to try this out.
-
I love the Imprecation hand cannon so far, coming from someone who has more No Land Beyond kills then Thorn, Last Word, and Red Death combined, I'm confident I'll have the patience to learn this weapon

I love the first curse, and it's design. But, this gun has serious accuracy problems. And I hate this style of gunsights on my handcannons. Even before ttk, I found it very difficult to land precision hits with these sights. I loved the Timurs lash style handcannons and pre ttk I used them a lot. They had good range and could stagger someone shooting at you. Now this gun just misses a lot. Clear head shots are not registering. This gun handles well and recoils well, but it should have more range, at least equivalent to what can be reached on handcannons currently. Tlw was low impact, range, and high rof, these high impact ones always were designed for ranged heavy damage. Slow, deliberate, and lethal. And for gods sake, these are not space glocs. Space glocs are what side arms are. These are foot long hand self artillery pieces that fire the equivalent of rifle munitions. I mean look at the size of these things In your hand. That being said my first few matches I trashed with it.

Anybody know hpw to get more wormsiger runes so i can get my tom

1 ReplyThanks for the review dude. It's honest and unbiased. There is something about this gun which I really like, and I want to use a weapon which I like over this phase of pulse rifles. I will be using it over hawkmoon in trials (I know bold move lol) but it works really nicely with snipers and grenades. Would like at least 11 shots per mag to make full use of the first curse perk. But it's how you play with the gun rather than the gun itself, which can make you deadly with the first curse. I'm considering using the lightweight perk cos I have hand cannon reload speed on my gauntlets. And you are right it can even compete against monsters like red death and nirwens, but it does require consistent accuracy.
-
I like it. Can't wait to get more practice in.
-
2 RepliesIts funny I watched Mr Fruit slating this before he used it then proceeded to do really well with it over two matches and continued to slate it afterwards saying it was down to his skill and not how good the gun was I was a bit confused to say the least
-
It's not a good weapon,I would either take you out at distance or rush with last word, either way you will be dead. Its a Timurs lash archetype and cannot keep up with the current meta if there is a skilled player on the end of the weapon.
-
2 RepliesEdited by AburameDon: 10/30/2015 9:31:11 AMIf it had at least 2 more bullets it might be worth the exotic slot, so you can actually use its exotic perk for more than one kill
-
I don't have the First Curse yet (I will next Armsday) but it seems like it is a memory of the pre-patched hand cannons as of TTK
-
I did the same thing pre-ttk! Didn't know I was gonna be getting the first curse this early though.
-
3 RepliesIn the right hands it is a pvp monster, it's a gunslingers wet dream, it takes a skilled player to truly appreciate its simplicity, there are no fancy perks like the ace of spades. It's not luck based like hawkmoon or dirty like thorn, it's not pretty like last word, it's a simple weapon with a simple basis, point shoot kill. It is consistently a 3 shot kill, I'd argue that it may even be a 2 shot head shot in trials or iron banner. It requires aim skill and patience. Most people who say it's garbage don't understand that not every weapon is ment to just hand you kills because you're using it, this gun is skill based and noob proof. Take it how you want.
-
The gun sucks but you fail to admit it.
-
2 RepliesEdited by HawkeyeSSDD: 10/30/2015 9:15:25 AMI feel like this gun could use a bigger mag size if anything 10 or 12 bullets would be nice. also the first curse buff could be a passive buff that is just active and not a buff with a activation requirement 1v1 shooting its great but facing a person with only 3 or 4 bullets is a hard situation.
-
3 RepliesI like this gun so much more than The Last Word.
-
13 RepliesSorry, DNR, because all I really want to know is how the hell I'm supposed to get a 7 precision kill streak in the crucible with that piece of crap Imprecation?!?! Tried it last night and it takes like 3 head shots to kill someone. Mines at 262 light - will it be easier to kill with it (in PVP) if I infuse it to 280something?
-
1 ReplyI do not like a gun the kicks so hard that the gun itself blocks the view of where you were looking at. Also it feels like it isn't snapping back to place fast enough.
