Does Bungie care at all about collectors?

First off, I realize that not everyone is a collector, but for those of us who are, Bungie seemingly willingly complicates our efforts. There wasn't enough vault space in vanilla Destiny, and the new gear in TDB made it an even bigger problem. Bungie's first attempt at a fix was to increase vault space from 20 slots for each category to 36 weapon slots and 24 slots for armor and general. This initial vault expansion was made in anticipation of HoW in an update that came out in April (according to the 3/26/15 weekly update), but the mistake Bungie made was that they didn't account for all of the new gear that would come along with it. Fast forward to August 20th. HoW had been out for three months, giving us ample time to acquire a lot (in some cases, all) of the gear it had to offer. There was enough noise coming from the community about vault space to be included on the community wish list (https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/140885111/0/0). In the weekly update released that day, DeeJ addressed vault space by stating "How about if we double it?" (https://www.bungie.net/en/News/News?aid=13414). Once again, Bungie made the mistake of addressing the vault space problem before releasing new content. Along with TTK came brand new vanguard and crucible gear, faction gear, exotics, raid gear, Iron Banner gear, ghost shells, strike specific gear, and quest gear. It also introduced new materials and a consumable (spark of light) that a lot of year one players, like myself, will never use, but can't be deleted. As if this wasn't enough, Festival of the Lost introduced masks (which are awesome) and a bunch of new consumables as well as bringing back year 1 Halloween favorites. As my status suggests, I'm pretty much out of vault space (my armor and consumable sections are full). I know I'm not the only one who wants more vault space. Hopefully if we make enough noise Bungie will add more. Even one additional page for each category would be great. Tl;dr: There has never been enough vault space, and the two vault expansions that Bungie has implemented so far did not compensate for the huge quantity of gear that would be released in HoW and TTK just weeks later. Festival of the Lost has compounded this problem. I also like the idea of a trophy case, separate from the vault. Edit: What if Bungie added a cosmetics tab to the vault? That way we could store the masks there instead of in the armor tab. The vault could be broken down even further by adding a section for class items and ghosts. Here's a link to my thread discussing that: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/168231710/0/0

    • The complete and total lack of transmogrifacation is what makes a lot of this game suck, cosmetically speaking of course.

    • Why don't they just add legendaries to the weapon and armour consoles... Problem fixed

        • I'm sure they care but last gen console limitations are restricting storage space. If bungie left old gen alone and gave us new gen Console users more vault space that would be great.

            • I think a separate cosmetics tab would be good, as would a trophy case (kind of like in Assassin's Creed there's a room where you can see all your gear) I feel like the kiosks were a step in the right direction and wish they'd at least add raid loot either to the existing exotics kiosks as a different tab/collection, or give them their own. Kiosks for Ghosts, Class Items*** and Artifacts would be nice too, even if they're combined in one.

Seems like a polarizing issue - with a lot of dissenters and people saying "It's just 1's and 0's, what's the big deal? Who cares? I just don't get it." Exactly. You don't. And you don't have to, you can continue playing the game your way and will be minimally affected at worst, no matter what happens. But it IS a big deal, and SpookyGarrison cares, and I care, and I know there are others. The reasons vary, but are important to each of us. For me, I love the novelty of looking at the different designs of weapons and armor as the game goes on. If it were practical, I would save a full suit of every type of armor - from the first set your Ghost makes to Firebreak 1.0 to Toruda 2.0 to Garuda 1.1 on my Titan, and the same for every character. Somewhere, at some point, an artist designed these armors, and the visual differences are interesting and often cool. I love being able to equip a full set and see how its pieces fit together, then mix and match to see if I can come up with a more appealing combo. Add that each set of armor reacts differently to Shaders in how the color is applied to which parts... Forget for a moment that someone MADE that, an artist created it, a programmer implemented it, etc. Forget that It does them a disservice not to appreciate their efforts by checking it out. Aside from that even, I enjoy checking out the variations. While not affected by Shaders, weapons have a similar diversity in design. Each DLC and the expansion has seen a new major "theme" in weapon construction - look at a vanilla Hand Cannon and a TTK one - there is a noticeable difference in the base construction. The same goes for all types, and within each type there are multiple variables that can change as well - different grips, barrel lengths, casings and attachments, chamber configuration/magazine placement (behind the trigger or in front) and shape (curved, straight, part of the stock), and more. Not to say anything of the scattered few "unique" designs that - while not as flashy as an Exotic - are not repeated on other weapons at all. So, yeah, I held on to my rare year 1 "NIFTY_BISCUIT" and "Sir Issac" Hand Cannons and my "Echo 33" Pulse Rifle until JUST recently - because they had a neat appearance, and moreover - interesting fluff. Which brings me to my last point - the fluff/flavor text. I am sure that there are databases out there that list all the items and include the flavor text. Some are funny, or are pop culture references (There are a number of examples, but a stand out is: "TFWPKY 1969" with its text of "...and if it doesn't, the bullets surely will." This is a reference to a line from the 1969 movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - with the guns name being an acronym for the first half of the quote: "The Fall Will Probably Kill Ya..."), and many provide a line or two of insight to the larger Destiny world. Like Halo before - Bungie has already invested a substantial amount of time into the greater "Lore" of the Destiny universe. I don't want to start a conversation about its presentation here (Vanilla story, Quests, new cut-scenes, Grimoire, etc), but there is a rich and detailed world here with a lot of information available - if you want to dig for it. If you don't, then that's fine, there also happens to be a good game out in front. Obviously, I am one of the sort who absolutely thrives on all of the background stuff. Finding a hint about how Exo's refer might to themselves (the "Echo 33" rare Pulse Rifle's text reads: "Negative. We will hold until overrun. Echo 3-3, signing off." Does that indicate that Saint-14 would say his name as "Saint One Four"?), insight into the Cabal (the rare Auto Rifle "Problem 78F" reads "Cabal military codes allegedly refer to 'death by multiple gunshots' as 'Problem 78, Subsection F'."), and more. Obviously, fluff/flavor text/lore applies to armor as well. Piecing together the breadcrumbs from various armor pieces or even sets can tell us a lot about different Titan and Warlock Orders, important historical battles, legendary Guardians who are no longer around (for one reason or another) and much more. As certain as I am that these are reason enough for me to want more space, to have a fuller collection, I am equally sure that there are many more reasons to want this - perhaps as many reasons as people who desire it. So, really, this isn't likely to change anyone's mind - the people who sneer and say "It's just a game" will continue to do so, smug in their certainty that they are somehow better than those of us who become invested in this intricate world (and others like it). A great many didn't care before, and won't care now. And to those who get it - I'm just preaching to the choir. But, hey - I am one more voice of assent, so - you're not alone! =) At the end of the day, my sincerest hope is that we all can have fun, enjoy the creation Bungie has offered us each in our own way, and still feel able to voice the things about this world we wish were better - be it more vault space, better loot drops, PVP balance or whatever else might make the experience a more enjoyable one for YOU. Good luck out there Guardians.

              • They should do blueprints for all legendary weapons and armor. From Y1 to Y2 and so on. That would give the feeling of not permanently deleting treasured gear. Raid gear will get their own tab, Crucible gets their own, and Vanguard gets them as well. You can pile up all gear from Vanilla, The Dark Below, and House of Wolves. Give re-rolling to Y1 weapons so that way when they repurchase their favorite weapons and armor they can get perks that will be random at their behalf. Obviously Y1 weapons will be 170 light and below so it doesn't interfere with current ToO or Iron Banner competition but at the same time they can enjoy normal crucible. I feel like this is a reasonable request and if player are buying these emotes, that money can go toward making this happen.

                • This is why I think they should have created an end game kiosk for raid armor and weapons. Most of my vault is taken up by old raid gear. Most of us are a little skeptical of deleting it considering how hard it was to get it. The skepticism comes from Bungie suddenly saying, "Oh, we've decided to actually do something with your old raid gear", but now it's all deleted. I care less about the sparrow and ship kiosks.

                  • The giant iPads all along the tower are there for collectors and if it's not an item from there you might want to see a psychologist about your hoarding, cause there is enough room in vaults to have one of every legendary raid and strike specific drop and more.

Bungie i'm sure wants to give more vault space but at the moment when TTK dropped they took a bunch of features like previewing weapons and armour in vault just to make enough memory to put in vault space this is due too the lack of "power" old gen consoles have. Can't just make shit appear in a game and not expect it to take up extra room. Sorta like how the vault is now. Full.

                      • Keep a few of your year 1 guns and dismantle the rest. Just let go of them, you don't need them anymore and their not doing anything useful in your vault.

                              • A collector is their demographic when making Destiny-themed paraphernalia. They're the one's that are guaranteed to buy their products, so they want to cater to them as much as possible. This is how literally all "themed merchandise" is sold and where the majority of most companies', with a few exceptions, revenue comes from as the products sold are typically expensive.
