Not sure if you no these but I've got a few tips you can add....
blood bound kills from night stalker super count towards the ability kills. Great videos of efficient places to do it can be found on YouTube, I recommend the dark below.
Also 1 ability kill in crucible is equivalent to 5 ability kills in pve. This means mayhem clash is one of the easiest places to finish your ability kills due to the massive decrease for cooldowns of grenades and supers. Of course the crucible is not for everyone.
Also the amamentarium from year one helps loads with grenades for the defender void sword disaster, and archylophage symbiote provides an extra golden gun shot for hunters, also helps loads for gunslingers with solar swords.
Equipping a sniper rifle and zooming in when you enter a new area will allow you to see all the material nodes in the area from a distance provided you have the appropriate ghost equipped for said planet. This makes mapping a quick sparrow root for collection a breeze.

You can also zoom in with a good scout rifle to find the nodes but it will likely not have quite the range of a sniper. This is handy if you want to have a useful in close gun equipped while farming. Personally I found this to work much better for me.

for golden gun use combustion and the double trip-mine exotic arm's with monte carlo and do the beginning of omnigul is another way in which i did it. But for the defender do mayhem and use suppreser nades cuz it shuts down supers then just punch them to death but either way getting some friends to play with you really speeds the whole quest up.
