Even so, going back to my original point, are you not playing for just plain fun?

The "fun" in destiny is more than partially linked to upgrading your gear, playing to win, playing to get more powerful, playing to look cooler. That's why people grind this game. It's impossible to separate one from the other unless it's totally new content it levels. It says so on the box: Become Legend
