Before Destiny I had never played an FPS. I primarily played games from a 3rd person perspective like Mass Effect.
Recently I upgraded to from the 360 to the Xbox 1 and it came with the Masterchief bundle of games. I want to give them a solid look but am concerned the mechanics and controller configuration will negatively impact my Destiny gameplay.
Are all FPS games laid out the same (button assignments for aiming down sights, movement, etc)?

1 ReplyInteresting that not one person mentioned the difference in frames for each game. Coming from Halo to Destiny, the 30fps takes a while to get used to.

Just try them out couldnt hurt also if you're good with muscle memory you could probably master a bunch of differant control layouts without negativley affecting other games

2 RepliesPlaying destiny is bad for my halo gameplay, but not the other way around.

Halo doesn't have ADS.
-
I play both regularly and I don't have any problem switching between them.

I used to play a lot of local tournaments back in the Halo 2 days and a bit of Reach. Gunplay in Destiny is a lot more fast paced in my opinion and I got used to it fairly quick. However, when I go back to play Halo multiplayer it feels somewhat sluggish/slow. Kind of sucks.

Most people I know have improved with similar shooters when they spent time with Halo.

8 RepliesYes. Destiny really isn't all that special once you try something new. Rainbow 6 is awful but gunplay was much more visceral then destiny cartoon version.

Edited by Sorana3: 10/24/2015 2:12:25 AMI wouldn't think so. If you wait a while before interchanging between games, then you may need a few matches to readjust to the controller layout, but you will readjust going between games. It's all about muscle memory. As a side note, there are major differences between the multiplayer of Destiny and Halo. Halo's is far more precision based and does require a different skill set, so don't be surprised if it takes you a while to learn Halo's gameplay. Every FPS multiplayer will be different.

If anything it will probably have a positive effect on your destiny abilities. I would advise you start off with Team Action Sack, which is just a bunch of random game types that don't fit in anywhere lol. The more laid back gameplay will probably help ease you into the dynamics of Halo. Afterwards, head into whatever playlist suits your fancy; I prefer the Halo 2 anniversary and Team Snipers. If you want I know that some members here set up custom games which would help you learn even faster since you would be with guys who are willing to help you get better.

2 RepliesIf you are serious the Awnser is yes. Halo and other FPS require way more skill and quick thinking/ reflexes.

No. Not really all fps games at their base are fairly similar. At most what will happen is when you switch between shooters you will just need a small bit of time to readjust yourself for those differences. At least that's how it was for me goin between, cod, battlefield, battlefront(the ps2 ones) destiny, and splatoon.

Is this a serious question

2 RepliesWhat's Halo?
-
Halo will make you better at, strafing, picking your engagements, knowing when to nope it out, aiming for the head, and many other things

Destiny has some really smooth mechanics for FPS games. I mean, that and graphics are really it's only two shining points. While you may like the feel of Destiny, more because it's your roots so to speak, you'll find that a real AAA shooter will have more to offer you.

you can edit you button lay out...
-
Bungie made Halo, which is why Destiny plays similar. If anything getting good at Halo will make you great at Destiny. Just know how to plaxe your shots

4 RepliesIf you're good at halo you can be good at pretty much any fps. Especially destiny.

4 RepliesHalo has kind if a rough learning curve for newcomers to mcc. Mainly because most of the players you play against are seasoned players that know the ins and outs of the map. As far as it having a negative impact on destiny, no I don't believe so at all. Of the scope button feels weird just go into the new button mapping menu and set it to your desired button ( old halos scope is R3) Play some halo 2 anniversary. Pretty fun. The games are very different. It's much more skill based in halo since there's no mechanics that can net you a bunch of kills very fast nor are the power weapons or power ups shared across all team mates. So if you see a sniper weapon, be prepared to fight for it. Shit. Even against your own teammates sometimes smh. For a fast fun game though I suggest halo 2. Base movement speed is high, and it's a good opportunity to master your strafe game.

8 RepliesIt won't make you worse. Halo takes a while to get used to if you're new though. Id give it a try if I were you, they're great games. Halo's learning curve is steep though, beware.

2 RepliesNo. But playing the Halo 3 multi-player may make you hate the Crucible.
-
2 RepliesIt will mess with you for a bit, but within 10 or so minutes you'll be fine.
Are all FPS games laid out the same (button assignments for aiming down sights, movement, etc)?
Obviously not, as every game has certain features no other game has to set it apart from the crowd. The controller configuration supports that. But, many Shooters allow you to change your controller configuration, allowing you to make it as close to Destiny's as possible. The most basic things though, like shooting and movement, remain the same for almost every Shooter. However, playing a different game and getting adjusted to that game might effect your skill level in Destiny. But, that's nothing a couple PvP matches in Destiny won't fix.
