So, yes, we all know Destiny wasn't what it was supposed to be...
but you do know that developers cut content all the time? Even pearls like The Last of Us have content cut in development. At the beginning of the development cycle most designers know no boundaries and then reality in form of time and money issues sets in. Then concepts are cut to size, stuff gets streamlined. Nowadays there are so many diaries and blogs from game-designers and it happens to every single one. It's normal, you juggle ideas around and you have to adjust when bringing them to life.
Before DLC and expansions where a thing, that content never resurfaced, maybe sometimes in the sequel. Kind of like alternative endings/cut scenes in movies. Since DLC became a thing, desginers often use content that didn't made it into the final game.
The filthy part is cutting content that is already done! Day 1 DLC is the prime example of shit like this.
And I don't think that was the case with Destiny. Kotaku makes it pretty clear that Bungie had bitten off more than they could chew, so it's more a problem of incompetence/inexperience than greed.

Day 1 DLC isn't necessarily cut content. The industry these days has lots of certification and play testing (can take up to 6 months) where content in the game is locked. These 3-6 months allow developers to create day one DLC. You can usually tell when something is cut to be made day 1 DLC and when it's actual DLC.

Agreed. Although the explanation seems to be their development tools. Which seems reasonable seeing as they built a new game engine for destiny.

Edited by Rowin Overwood: 10/23/2015 1:29:10 PMBut it's not like they cut content in the last of us that ruined the story. Or that they cut assists out, then stitched then to other assets and made you run backwards through the same street or alley way and called it new content. Business have to make money and they make decisions all the time. What what was done here may not be "the end of the world," but it's dangerous to see how this company looks at its user base. Plus all the misinformation put out on top of it? Well, the 360 and PS3 are stopping us from making the game we want to make. We can't increase your vault size because of old gen. It's because of laziness and the crappy developer tools they created. Especially after creating forge? Are they for real? Ultimately, people will continue to play destiny. People will buy it because they want to. Shit, I still log in and play. But I feel not real attachment or investment in their story. In Destiny 2 my guardian could fart rainbows and piss lucky charms and I won't really care what the lore has to say about why my shits green. They don't care about me, so I don't really care about them. Edit: because my fat fingers hit the wrong letters

Indeed, most "good" games don't suffer from cut content, often it's an improvement (streamlining). I just wanted to make the point that in Destinys case it's most likely that they cut content because they didn't have to the time to finish it and that the content that was cut, probably was in early development. The OP sounds a bit like "the stuff was finished and playable and they cut it for the money" and I don't think that. Maybe I want to believe in the good in people, but I think that the fvckups in the final game are more a product of incompetence and bad luck instead than malicious intent. I agree that Bungies communication regarding this issue could be a lot better... a sincere apology can go a long way...

The article itself states that it was cut "because it did not support their new narrative." While they might not have been fully fleshed out, they were at least to a alpha/beta build. It might not have been fully play tested but a year out, with one extension already coming to a close. It was In a playable state. Maybe not launch ready. Ultimately I knew they cut stuff when the first dlc came through. The second dlc solidified that. Finally the TTK missions, plus the DLCs make a complete story "which is how I feel Destiny is now." This was what we should have gotten initially. We can argue, but ultimately this is more what they intended to release day 1. Not year 2.
