Yes, but not because of self res. Song of flame can be used to buff your teammates and solar flares do a pretty good job at zoning off areas for them. Probably my favorite class and I never use self res.

It's bad if you don't play with people you know.... I run with 3 other sunsingers and we all love using song of flame together. It's amazing in certain situations.
