Hello
I am curious about how light affects your damage, for instance: if you are 300 light and fight against 300 light monsters you deal and receive 100% damage.
If you are 10 light under the enemys light then you receive a penalty to damage dealt and received.
But, what if your light level is over your enemys one? How much damage would you deal to a 42 level enemy for each point of light over the enemy light level?
I read yesterday on inet that per each point of light under your enemys light you receive 2'85% extra damage and deal 2'85% less damage (just for the first 10 points of light). E.g: 28% of penalty if your light is 10 points under the enemy light.
I think bungie should make this system clearer to the players.

Exceeding an enemy's recommended light does not grant bonus damage. Your light determines whether you receive a penalty to damage or not (if you have less light than your enemy's recommended light). However, remember that Attack and Defense, still do what they did in year 1, in addition to contributing to your light calculation. As you increase your light level significantly, you will likely have higher attack weapons. Higher attack weapons will result in more damage against enemies, as you will be further reducing the effectiveness of the enemy's defense value. Note that damage caps apply to enemies of significantly lower level - eventually, you will max out the damage a gun can do to an enemy - test damage values against enemies near your light level.

1 ReplyThey posted the PvP stats for the Iron Banner here: https://www.bungie.net/7_Power-Still-Matters/en/News/News?aid=13754 I wouldn't be surprised if the PvE calculations are the same.

5 RepliesThe system works one way, it doesn't seem having a massively higher light or level over your enemies (say lvl 40 guardian with 302 light vs and level 4) affects your speed to kill them. The weaker enemy should, by all means, not even be able to touch you, yet they can, while if it was the other way around, you can't touch them. Also, with higher light, the game will scale the enemies to account for this higher value. That inherently makes the light and level system completely useless and flawed. There is no logical reason why it should be and makes trying to max your light level useless beyond meeting the entry requirements and recommended light for a given mission.
