So, after many months of not playing pvp, I've finally decided to play a bit more. And I'm AWFUL. I was getting around . 5 kd on a regular basis. So, I decided to change things up. I think I am finally getting the hang of it! Went through iron banner and did okay.
What are tips for better pvp play? And what's a good load out for a hunter? I typically use gunslinger for my subclass.

1 ReplyUse a fusion rifle. They are the secret OP weapon of the game. I have a .8 k/d and I go on 10 kill streaks with it.

Using the radar, backpedaling sometimes and trying to force people to face me straight on helped, I still get outgunned often enough but running straight in too aggressively is a great way to get pinned between two people or taken out by a camping shotgunner crouching around the corner. Also if you're a gunslinger, tripmines!

If you play solo be patient and stay relatively close to other members of your team Assume every new capture and heavy spawn is going to get hit by an enemy super And, take note of every sniper camp spot in every map.
-
If you're doing control, pay attention to where your team goes after capping start zone...stay with a group. Find the sight lines where you can snipe. Every map has them. Don't rush in all rambo. Always glance at your radar. If you see 2 or more red on radar, back up and get in cover. Up close, learn to shoot melee...always a kill.
-
learn the high traffic areas of each map, and pay attention to see if your teamates flip the spawns so you domt repeatedly get killed from behind
-
I main gunslinger as well. I'll load up my crucible setup for what I ran in the last IB. Your results will vary. No tips other than learn the maps and don't rush around the maps.
-
Not running around like you have ADHD can help. While I'm not saying to camp one area of the map, running around less can help prevent terrible spawn changes, and avoid some of the more...easily avoidable deaths. What weapons do you like? And Gunslinger is so damn fun, my build is almost ready to go for TTK.

I have a few i can dm to you.

This update get a pulse rifle with high stability. Get a high impact sniper rifle/shotgun. Use the most op loadout for your class. Stack your gear for intellect/discipline. If you really want help add me on psn allenkatza and send a message.
-
Use Sunbreaker. It's pretty much easy mode.
-
find a different game to play if your focused on MP, destiny's pvp isnt credible and holds no real value and wil degrade your overall gun skill accuracy over time

2 RepliesThe long haul method 1. Start at a comfortable camera speed sensitivity and work increase it every two days 2. Try a gun for a week then move onto another one 2.a) recommendations: pulse rifles are the "in" type right now, bad juju/red death/nirwins mercy/hawk saw/grasp of marlok are the top dogs here, if you have one...try it. If you do well and enjoy it, stick with it. Remember that stability is your best friend Next would be hawk moon or eyasluna, range stats all the way Scouts can do wonderous things, but you will need decent skill to pull it off 2b) shotguns with max range and range finder are definitely still viable. The conspiracy theory for completing the "never ending battle" nightfall part rewards one with quite amazing rolls. Snipers are the best of the best. But you need some serious headshot skill to make use of them Side arms are like super primaries. They can do great things but will often fall short when you need to clinch a kill Fusion rifles, accuracy, impact and charge rate. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I personally think the cone spread is bugged 2c) machine guns. Get a high impact with spray and play/cocoon and as much range as you can and go to town...so powerful....mainly due to to most using swords Swords, hide, wait till they get close, block incoming fire and slash them to pieces. Use that block fashion...kill streaks with swords will leave you tingly...as does blocking a rocket Rocket launchers, easy kills but you may only get 2/3 rockets. Blast radius was nerfed so double kills are rare and grenades and horseshoes was nerfed. You can't kill a super with a single rocket and decent players dodge them with ease. 3. Sunbreaker is the easy mode super class, but their melee and grenades are not top tier at all. I'd recommend gunslinger for beginners or nightstalker more advanced ones (I use striker, I love my lightening grenades, shoulder charge and fist of havoc. But not everyone finds it all too useful) 4. General tips Stick with your group Do not triple cap Don't stand on a flag you already have Save super for heavy drop. Be a hero and kill the other team on their heavy Head shots win fights Max armour will allow you to survive a sticky grenade Learn to strafe as you gunfight Rumble is a great place to learn as its you vs them.... Watch the radar and learn to read it properly Learn the maps Don't fight in the open, have a way to get behind cover 5. Networking(lag sucks) Learn how setting console to dmz works Learn about port forwarding Set console to static ip Set Google Dns servers If your router allows it, use the proper mtu setting for your console Cheers

3 Replies1. Learn how to use your radar. 2. Learn how to use a sniper just as effectively as a shotgun these guns are more suited than one another on depending on the maps so adjust accordingly. 3. Don't panic while shooting. Learn how to keep your calm when going against an opponent. 4. Stay close to your teammates if it is a team based match. Some people are good at running solo, the other 99.9 percent of us are not. 5. Don't encounter two or more people of the opposite team unless you have your super or they have you surrounded on all sides. Focus on one of the two or more ppl and try to take them out before before you're taken out. 6. Use your crouching. 7. Don't jump too much. You aren't using blink so it will make you an easy and vulnerable target. 8. Look at what your opponents and teammates are using before the match starts it helps to adjust your play style. You don't want to go directly up against red death if you don't have an equally efficient gun so find a way to get the drop on them. 9. Don't be that person that runs around with their shotgun all the time. You see these ppl get lots of kills in one map but in the more spaces out maps they tend to go negative due to their complete lack of skill and situational awareness. 10. Just have fun with it. Only the best players are going to be awesome every single match. It doesn't do any good to overthink it since it is just a video game.

Follow these ten steps and even if you are a terrible player, you are almost guaranteed to get better. I'm still not a good player in Crucible (but crap loads better than I used to be), because I rarely play it, but since I did a lot of grinding in the early days for certain grimoire cards, bounties, IB gear, and the sort, I've picked up a few tips for PvP beginners. I posted a variation of this before, and it seemed to help some people, so maybe it'll help you or others checking out this thread too. I've included the top ten steps I think that are most worth mentioning, but it's a long post, so I've put it in a spoiler so this isn't a wall of text others have to scroll past if they aren't interested.
1. Play Control: This is where the casual players are heavily concentrated, and usually only playing to do bounties, plus you know where most people are going to be; on, or around the control points. Great way to familiarize yourself in PvP without being overwhelmed by try hards. 2. Watch your radar, and if you see more than a single blip, run awa..er, tactically retreat if you are by yourself. Battling multiple fronts when you are already inexperienced isn't doing you any favors and will only succeed in frustrating you further when you die. 3. If you are trying to push the advantage, and not camping a control point, then always run with a team mate, preferably them in front of you as a meat shiel...er, fellow ally in arms. 4. Play with the weapons you are most comfortable with, not just what people say works great in PvP, because every player's style is different. (Example: If you suck with and/or don't enjoy shotguns, and try to run with them, its not likely to help.) 5. Make sure you are wearing proper gear that is designed for PvP. Sometimes that extra grenade, ability to use your melee more often, or reload your special weapon can make a subtle, yet large difference over time. 6. If at all possible, run with an actual fireteam. Even if they aren't that great at crucible, you will be able to shoot the shit with them, and enjoy yourself a lot more. This will keep the stress of the learning curve of PvP from building so badly, than if you are dealing with it alone. 7. Learn and study the maps you play in. Understand how to get from one spot to another as quick or safely as possible, depending on your play style. Discover the sweet spots for your type of weapons you use, and of course good locations with decent cover. As time goes on, learn also where you are being assaulted from so you know where other sweet spots of the map are for others as well (Example: Even if you use fusion rifles, pay attention to where you are getting sniped from, so you know their sweet spot, and how to look for and/or track them down so that doesn't keep happening.) 8. When flying solo, if in the first few minutes your opposing team gets 'Strength of the Wolf', just go to orbit. Trust me. That team is kicking your ass, and its not likely to change the whole match and you will just get frustrated, start raging, and/or at the very least become demoralized. (call it a cowardly move if you want, but it preserves your focus and nerves for longevity, so you can get more quality practice in.) 9. Playing on the weekends, and especially Monday is key. The try-hards will be in Trials of Osiris (when it returns), and most players have Destiny fatigue by Monday, and are resting up for reset on Tuesday (*Also if Iron Banner is running, this works even better if you play regular crucible.) 10. Don't play angry and frustrated. I mean this, you will make mistakes, you will do stupid things, and you will screw up. This is a tactic that many douchebags in PVP will actually use. They'll t-bag/dance over your body, just to piss you off and make you charge blindly into their trap. If you get truly aggravated, take a break and come back later. Destiny and Crucible isn't going anywhere, it'll still be there when you get back :) Additional Notes: You can also of course check out countless videos/streams online about PvP, but this is meant to be a quick guide for hands on learning and doing it yourself, so that is why I didn't include it in the list, but still watching a few of those if you can tolerate a particular tuber/streamer probably would be beneficial in many ways. As far as loadouts for particular classes/sub-classes, I'm sure there are tons of others that have, or will reply to you that have a much better idea on that than me, so I'll leave it to them. Hell, I dunno if this beginner 10 steps guide will be helpful, but I'm willing to share it just in case.
Use ahamkara gauntlets, double trip mines is beastly. Stick them on walls and near capture zone . 100% discipline you'll have grenades every 25 seconds. Use a pulse rifle for primary. Secondary can be shotgun, sidearm, or sniper. I have more fun ambushing people with a sidearm. Just play conservative, aware, and smart. Follow people and team shots will drop enemies fast. K goodluck

Try developing strong map awareness, as in take note of specific parts of each map where most engagements occur, where spawns generally are, etc. Learn to use your radar effectively. Understand when to push an encounter and when to flee; don't challenge every gunfight. Generally stay in reasonable proximity to your teammates, in order to help each other out and play the objectives with better coordination. With regards to your super, try to use it to preemptively attack the enemy heavy ammo, shut down other enemy supers, take out a cluster of enemies, or if need be, to save your own life. Try not to waste it randomly. But most importantly, stay relaxed and have fun. You'll do much better when you are enjoying the game, rather than playing in frustration.
-
Always try to get at least 1 kill per life. (Ideally you'd be getting at least 2 if not more). Never leave a match unless you have to. Always try for multi super kills. Never panic super your golden gun. Stay with your team as much as possible, but don't be too close otherwise multi kills are possible for the other team. Have fun. If you aren't having fun, don't play.
-
Always play like you're trying to go unbroken. Avoid gunfights when health is low or evade if u think you're going to lose a gunfight. That alone helped me a lot.
-
Think about tripmine grenade placement for zoning enemies or stopping ill prepared rushers/shotguns

It's cancer.. Skip the add-on PVP mode Destiny has to offer.

When using weapons that fire in Full Auto, use strafing to dodge their shots. Go back and forth (I usually try to time it with my Pulses if using a Pulse Rifle) while shooting to try to beat them in 1v1 situations.

Edited by NobodyJustBrad: 10/21/2015 5:28:29 PMFirst, I'll say, even if you hope to do well, first thing is to have fun. If you start getting upset, you not only shouldn't even be playing, but you'll most likely just play worse. Second, if you're with a team, call outs help everyone. Third, don't bite off more than you can chew. Try to find a way to turn every engagement to your advantage. If you're outnumbered, start behind cover and take on one at a time. Whenever possible, stick with a teammate. Team shooting is very effective. Don't be afraid to run and make your situation better. Fourth, don't roam around the map aimlessly. Have a clear goal of what part of the map you want to control and keep it. If you push too far into the enemy spawn, they will start spawning behind your team. That only causes chaos and you'll start getting surrounded. Fifth. I recommend going to Planet Destiny's YouTube channel and watching the crucible school videos and crucible radio podcasts. I watched them, paid attention to what I was doing in the game, and now a bunch of that stuff became second nature. I've noticed a good increase in my success since then. Also, keep an eye on that radar whenever possible! I often can navigate the map while entirely watching the radar. It's very informative.
