yeah a good path to take to learn all your scales, rythum, arpeggios ect. Would be the Grading system 1-8 then Diploma level, im not sure if it's in the states but im sure they it is.

What kind of guitar do you have? I have an ESP M 100-FM decked out with EMG pickups. Metallica is a good band to practice on. Enter Sandman s a good starter, Once you get into it, you can learn more complicated things, such as master of puppets, battery( you have to be good at double-picking, or what I like to call the "three round burst") Damage Inc. is very advanced, Creeping Death is good, but you really need to practice your scales and learn your chords. If you learn how to read music and not just tabs it will help alot. Music theory is also something o get interested in later on down the road.

Cool i didn't know about that group, i just requested to join :)

The first song I learned was "Gloria" by Van Morrison. It just uses the chords E D and A throughout the whole song.

I gave you a tip before, this thread got turned around so I went with the flow. My bad. Next time I ever go on a highway, I'll be sure to drive 15 miles per hour slower than the other guys and drive the wrong direction while I'm at it. [Edited on 6/20/2005]
Posted by: MadSniper2 I hear Smoke on the Water is one of the easiest beginner songs. I wouldn't know though, I play drums and keyboard, self taught. w00t.
Yeah, smoke on the water by Deep Purple. Thats the first song i learned to play on my guitar, and i still know it. Very easy, very good for a beginner. You don't even have to listen to the song to know it. [Edited on 6/19/2005]

i got a epiphone g-400 http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=24&CollectionID=3 i think it has one of the nicest tones for the songs i play. points to help u get good -try learning scales like that one guy said -try learning songs by ear before checking out the tab -my friends say lessons help but i taught my self -learn new chords and try shifting from one chord to another -have fun Jimi Hendrix = God
-
yea self-taught is good but you dont know exactly how to play everything. i mean it might sound like the song, but you might be missing some critical points.
-
A song that will easily impress non guitar players is Stairway to Heaven. It is pretty straight forward and if you get the timing right then it can sound great. As for a hard song try Paranoid Android by Radiohead.
Posted by: MadSniper2 I hear Smoke on the Water is one of the easiest beginner songs. I wouldn't know though, I play drums and keyboard, self taught. w00t.
I'm self taught on guitar and just about everything I can play.
Posted by: Ruze Master of Puppets is easy. If you wan't hard, try learning Eruption (Van Halen) or the solo for Blackened (Metallica).
Eruption's a piece of cake . . . for me. Blackened isn't that hard. What else ya got?
