So just because you're a more intelligent person and not a total dumb-blam!- you get punished for be successful? I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound right to me. If the government did its job right, tax rates would be going down.
English
-
That's classist.
-
Tax rates can't just always be going down. Thats how debt is created.
-
True. I overlooked that. But there must be other options than to tax the people that know what they are doing.
-
The taxes don't negatively affect them.
-
How so?
-
Edited by Britton: 10/20/2015 4:50:33 AMBecause if you tax me 30% of a million dollars, I have 700k left over. I'm not hurting financially.
-
You would not be financially troubled, but to lose such a large pecentage still wouldn't be equal. How would you like to lose 30% of thirty thousand, or sixty thousand? To be taxed more just because you had the will and intelligence to get there simply isn't fair.
-
I wouldn't like that, that's why we have progressive rates.
-
And for that I again pull it back to the arguement that being intelligent enough to make a large sum of money should not be punished. Also, my apologies if I have said anything that doesn't make sense, it's late where I am.
-
Making money doesn't eqaul Intelligence.
-
But it does play an extremely large role. I can't name a million or billionaire that didn't get to where they are without being intelligent, or having inherited their wealth from someone who was. The only exception to this would be a tyrant, or other government leader.
-
Edited by Britton: 10/20/2015 5:28:17 AMSo? That doesn't mean they don't deserve to pay taxes.
-
Of course not, and I would never suggest such a thing. But someone who makes ten times that of another should pay the same tax rate. The government would still get more from the person who made more.
-
Flat taxes screw the middle and lower classes. That's why we use progressive rates.
-
I call it motivation.
-
I call it suppressing socioeconomic mobiltiy
-
It wouldn't have to be a high tax rate. So much money is wasted through the corruption of the government. If only there were a reset button.
-
Yes a lot of money is wasted. But a lot of money could also be going towards things we need like our crumbling infrastructure.
-
If only. I fear the government will fall before we can ever fix it.
-
It will if we don't vote against corruption.
-
From the way things have been going, it isn't looking good.
