Most overused video game genre
So, what kind of game is used far too often in this and the last generation of gaming? Personally I think we have too many AC style games AC main series, Shadow of Mordor, Batman Arkham Knight, and Far Cry all fall into this category.

FPS hands down. They're my absolute favorite but [i]damn[/i] there's been some sub-par shit these past few years. C'mon Halo 5 don't keep me waiting!

3 RepliesDefinitely open world. Its fine to have a more open landscape to traverse, but not everything needs to be a fully open world. More often than not that just leads to more boring, generic terrain, less story focus overall, and a large focus on just generic fetch quests or kill quests. I would prefer of more games followed a linear progression with multiple approaches. Take the hitman series or. Dishonored for example. You get a linear story with clear as day linear progression, yet each area you are provided with so many choices to get to your target that it feels open world in the process. Just shoving open world into everything doesn't work. TES and fallout do it pretty good. But games like Dragon age try to do it with little improvement off of their old formula. That's one of the reasons I can see The Divisions not do to well, as it will just become another generic open world where all there is to do is run around and kill people.

4 RepliesI also can't say shooters are overdone. Sure they are pretty big in the US, especially in xbox, but in many other countries they don't sell that well at all. Hell in Japan they are probably the least played of any genre.

Really, a poll with only four options when there are countless genres? I am going to say "over milked franchise" is the most overused genre.

Nowadays aside from Sports and platformers, everything you mentioned can be seen in tons of games. Rpg elements are everywhere, Shooting is everywhere, Open open world is everywhere. Games nowadays contain all sorts of genres.

5 RepliesIn the last generations. Shooters. Is say open world is second. Platformers is a joke to mention because outside of nintendo. Only indie devs make platformers. But you really don't hear much from them unless you are into it. So I don't see why that one is over used this last gen. Only platformer people can easily name off the top of their heads is Mario games. Maybe little big planet if they remember it's a thing.
