I have wondered how playing TTK makes sense if you have not killed Crota. The whole premise of the DLC is that Oryx is avenging the death of his son.

Honestly, Oryx doesn't need a reason. He wiped out whole civilizations before Crota died because he thinks it will make the universe a more perfect place.
