  • The Traveler is dead so we can't look into the Lights true intentions. So let's look at the Darkness, it's opposite, instead. The worm gods of the Fundament, the most powerful beings that that we know of that work with Darkness, basically brainwashed the Hive into believing that the law of this universe is to kill. Kill absolutely anything and everything that can't defend itself and survive. Including each other. This is the way of Oryx and the Hive, and so it'd be safe to assume this is the way of the Darkness as well. Now you can go on and on about the true law of life in the universe but most would agree that genocides of entire species, simply because it's what you think must be done, is bad. We think having peaceful civilizations with a curious people always inventing new things to help others and raise the standard of living would be a good thing. And that's exactly what the Traveler helps do. Now let's look at our enemies and why they're in our solar system. The Fallen. The Traveler used to be their God as it is, or was since the Traveler is basically dead, with us. Something happen to the golden age Fallen, presumably the same Collapse that happened to us, and the Traveler abandoned them. Their collapse obviously did a number on them but they survived and even followed their God over who knows how long or far to our system. The fallen aren't fighting against the traveler they're trying to get rid of humanity so they can have the traveler to themselves. The Hive. These guys are undoubtably the most Darkness powered race. They're the ones that believe the killing everything is the answer. Anyways they're here because Oryx, as per the usual, was brainwashed by the agents of darkness, the worms, into believing that the Traveler aligned the 50(?) moons of his gas giant home planet, the Fundament, into creating a massive wave that would wipe out his race. So because of this Oryx had a deep seeded personal vendetta against the traveler. Which is ironic since he slaughtered half his own race anyways. So this is how the hive are in the picture. Oryx chased the traveler through the Galaxy, stopping every now and again to commit mass genocide and make species basically disappear from history. The Vex. The Vex were actually brought into our realm of existence by Crota pulling them out of some alternate dimension. The very first living thing the Vex had to study was the hive. Because of this the Vex decided that their law of the land would be loosely based on Hive philosophy. They survive by any means necessary by being victorious in every possible scenario. They also picked up the idea of worship from the hive as well. Eg the black gardens heart. I'm pretty sure they haven't yet explained exactly why the vex are in our system but it seems to be they arrived in during the collapse "During the Collapse the Vex transformed the planet Mercury into a machine in days. They would have spread to every planet if the traveler haven't stopped them" The Cabal. Despite being the most similar to humanity we seem to know basically nothing about the Cabal. What they're doing. Why they're here. What they want. I'm speculating here but I'll bet the next DLC will be about the Cabal because of the message we intercepted addressed to the head of the Cabal empire. Anyways idk where I was going with this I was high when I wrote all that. If you ask me I don't think the traveler is necessarily evil but it does use species to defend itself. The traveler visits a post industrial species and carries it into a golden age. It's nice and all but what it's really hoping for is for that species that can defend itself which is why I think the traveler chose to make its last stand with humanity. With war mongering humanity with our super advanced AI war minds with their vast array of Warsats and doomsday weapons. If this is the case it'd make sense why Rasputin is still in the picture and where it's going.
