Scene 6- The Rookie
"YOU BROKE THE COFFEE POT!" Ralph shouted in dismay, still in his bathrobe. Ayria stared at her feet, embarrassed. The coffee pot coughed and sputtered, black liquid dripping down the counter.
Ralph sank to his knees before the dying machine and whimpered.
"My energy...... my meaning in life..... why I wake up in the morning..... all gone." he wept.
Sanders walked up and slapped him on the side of the head.
"WAKE UP! We can just go to the Light Caffe." Sanders snapped, then turned to Ayria. His gaze softened.
"It's fine. We needed a new one, anyway. Thanks for trying to make us coffee."
She blushed. "You're welcome. Thanks for not getting pissed off."
Ralph latched onto Sanders' leg.
"WHY DO YOU CONSOLE HER? WWWWHHHHHYYYYYY?" Ralph screamed.
"Ew." Sanders said, shaking Ralph off. "Go away, desperate dog." Ayria giggled, and Sanders smiled.
Soon they walked into the Caffe, and sat down at the bar. They all had coffee with large plates of eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes.
"I'll pay for you." Sanders offered to Ayria. "Ralph, you buy your own."
"You're such a gentleman." Ayria giggled.
Ralph made a gagging motion. This was supposed to only happen in anime. It was 'oh il do this for you, Ayria.' and 'giggle giggle giggle Sanders you're amazing giggle giggle giggle.' Ralph grudgingly jammed a pancake into his mouth, glaring at the back of Sanders' head. He almost wished SHE was back.
Almost.
He chased the pancake with a sip of coffee and stood up.
"I need some fresh air." he muttered curtly, intentionally bumping into Sanders' plate which fell to the ground and shattered.
"Pity. I guess you'll have to pay for that too." he snickered and proceeded to throw open the door to the cafe.
He found himself staring out on the city, watching the blinking lights and various other activities of the people. He sighed; sometimes he wondered if he even wanted to be a guardian, chosen to bear the hopes of the City and pour the concrete that would be the road to the future.
He was a failure. He couldn't even channel arc. He lifted his hand and tried to make arc lightning chain between his fingers, as Ravien had taught him to do. Nothing.
Sanders paced around the apartment, trying not to throw things in front of Ayria. He liked to throw things when he was mad, but he couldn't do that in front of her. And now Ralph, of all times for him to be in-cohesive, had stormed off and left him to pick up the pieces. Literally.
Ayria stared at Sanders. He sighed.
"Sorry to be like this. We just aren't used to a girl who's...who's... so girly, I guess." he coughed nervously.
She raised an eyebrow.
"There was someone here before me?"
"Well... yeah. She was a bit more....violent than you, though."
"How do you mean?"
"Well, she would have gone off and totally have dragged Ralph's sorry ass back here and made him apologize at knifepoint."
She stared. "Oh. Do you want me to be more...violent?"
"NONONONONONONONONO! If anything, we need things to be a bit more... peaceful around here. Especially if we are going to take on the Taken." he said.
"Here. Just watch some tv or something." he tossed the remote to her, and she caught it and clicked on the tv. Guardian Angels started playing, and he chuckled in embarrassment.
"Ah... that's just on tv at the moment... here, give me that.."
"But it says it's on DVD." her eyes widened. "I have an idea!" she yelled, sprinting out the door.
Sanders blinked, blindsided by this strange reaction.
"Well... ok then..." he picked up a magazine and started flipping to the appliances section. They needed a new coffeepot.
Ralph stumbled into the apartment at around 8:00 at night, rubbing his eyes wearily. He had gone to the crucible and tried to do well, but after the discovery of Sunbreaker there was no chance for the rest of the classes. He shuffled over to the new coffeepot and started making two cups.
"Better make it four." Ayria said from behind him, and he jumped.
"GYAH!" he shouted, jumping several feet into the air. "What was that for?" he gasped, clutching his chest. She tossed a plastic bag at him, which he barely managed to catch.
"What's this?" he questioned, opening the bag. Inside was Guardian Angels seasons 5, 6, and 7. He looked at Ayria who was grinning, then back into the bag.
"Wait...what...how....you....what...." he stuttered, putting the pieces together in his mind.
She gestured him to come sit on the couch.
"Come on. If you hurry, we can finish season four and get started on season five by 1:00."
"You like....anime?" he stammered.
"Eh. Just this series." she pointed out, and Ralph continued to brew the coffee. Maybe the rookie wasn't so bad after all.

The guardian was thrown from the portal, and stared in dismay at its glowing white armor. It was still in control of its mind, but not its will. It pulled out its gun, which now had silver plating instead of gold. This is your Curse. Use it.
"Nooo..." the guardian moaned, nearly toppling over. Black crept into the corners of its vision.
That's right, 'guardian'. Your light is MINE!
