Golden gun deals 197 damage to a HoS titan. Max out your armor and you will live.
I hate Hammer of Sol because it's obscenely overpowered and makes Sunbreakers the top tier OP meta class. Normally this isn't a problem because I always use what's top tier when I want to win. BUT, I need crucible kills with warlock for grimoire reasons.
EVERY TIME I lost a match of Iron Banner, it's because some guy on the other team (always came in 1st place, of course) used his hammer to take over zone B or steal heavy ammo, decimating my whole team and pulling into the lead. This will usually occur 3-4 times a match because Hammer of Sol = free heavy ammo = more kills = more Hammer of Sol. If you somehow fail to secure heavy ammo with the power of Thor... Then you either got multi-sniped (wow!), counter supered (only a few will work, and they're from unpopular classes), or you're a total scrub.
Hammer of Sol is like Nova Bomb with Shatter built in for FREE! To further sweeten the deal, you get to decide WHEN you throw your mini nova bombs and your super decreases at a snail's pace, allowing you much more time to close any gap. Combined with how small Destiny's maps are, long range is usually never a problem for the non-hitscan hammers.
With max armor, you can survive ANYTHING except a snipe from Black Spindle, Nova Bomb, or Fist of Havoc. Your super has a weak Unstoppable built in for FREE!
Forgemaster is basically Annihilate, but with a built in Unstable Current effect (from Mask of the Third Man) for FREE!
Flameseeker is basically Angry Magic (making long range engagements more viable, too), but with more agility and recovery 'cause why not?
Cauterize is basically Hungering Blade, but better. I haven't tested yet but I assume it works on all fire based attacks, including your grenades.
Sunbreaker also gets the best sticky, the best frag, and the best PvE melee (+50% damage, more DPS potential than Shadowshot! I used it with Ghorn for PoE annihilation.).
Stroke the Forge is basically upgraded Overcharge with a weak Fast Twitch built in for FREE! It's obviously not a top tier PvP melee but... If you care about melees in this sniper/shotgun-fest of a game... Just no.
In conclusion: Sunbreaker is OP. It has double the perks of other classes. Hammer of Sol is the ULTIMATE combination of extreme offense and extreme defense. It's unbeatable. RUNNING is not a viable counter in Iron Banner, since the whole damn point is to hold down zones. I can't wait to finish my warlock kills and return to the Sunbreaker master race so I can once again shit hammers out of my ass and wreck people with "skill."
How to balance Sunbreaker: Remove Cauterize, SLIGHTLY increase resistance. WOW THAT WAS HARD. You don't see other supers healing that much, do ya! Sunbreakers are scary enough WITHOUT being invincible. I don't want to change the resistance and many hammers that make them scary though. Bungie DID accomplish it's mission of making the anvil sound scary.
UPDATE: Strange, my previous edit vanished. Stupid Bungie forums. Anyways I said I tried Sunbreaker in PvP and couldn't stop getting easy multi-kills. Also, I jumped to dodge a Sunbreakers hammers in a 3 vs 3 match with my Warlock but it only seemed to work because my enemy was a total noob. I wrecked their whole team. Whenever people I jump I either A) hit them anyway or B) Let them fall, then fire hammer like a rocket launcher. I'm sorry but invincibility and 5 tracking rockets is a bit too much for a super.
UPDATE: I was just playing with my gunslinger, only to be sniped the instant I left cover to fire at my assailant with GG. I KNEW the 2 snipers were in the back of the room (was capturing C on Exodus Blue), but their reaction time was flawless. But man, I could have totally thrown a tracking hammer over my piece of cover, or simply ran out sideways with a slide to survive their puny snipers and regen on kill.
People claim that other classes AREN'T based around their super. In that line of thinking, Gunslinger's only defining feature is throwing knives. Throwing knives are surprisingly useless in Iron Lagger, and Crucible in general. Smart players strafe too fast (or there's too much lag) so there's no way to land a long range knife kill without predicting them perfectly. When aiming for the head, you also have to adjust the angle based on distance due to gravity. Increased skill leads to increased reward; therefore it's not OP. Unfortunately there's also a really shitty blind spot where your gunslinger is out of melee range but will NOT throw a knife instead stabbing the air like a retard, basically causing suicide. I don't know about you but I gladly trade throwing knives to get HoS instead of GG.

For the record, I will more than happily waste two goldens on a sunbreaker going ham
