I'm not sure what to make of this picture to be honest, on the one hand it is a failed attempt at a documentary trying to expose the menlikingmenphobia is the USA, and on the other it is a equally failed attempt at an epic romance. Either way there is a lot of distasteful humour and an unnecessary amount of male nudity, while it is funny and at times hilarious like American pie, this is merely the surface, deep down it more often mirrors Crocodile Dundee.
To start the film too often touches the delicate subjects of sex and menlikingmenphobia, sure to Eurotrash like myself this is not an issue, but to the Christian majority USA it will cause problems. The whole issue is that it is pressed too often, when Bruno walks into any interview the first question is often one addressing the -blam!-ity of the recipient, most unnecessary. Laughs will be had however, though they will be childish and under-age ones.
My nest issue is with the whole fabrication of it compared with Borat, in Cohens previous venture there was almost no manufacturedness whatsoever, but in this new picture you will always be aware of Cohens guiding hand keeping things together. Though, at least it actually is in interview form, something Ali G in da house did not even attempt. This kills a number of scenes for the intelligent and watchful viewer, but the majority population will be unaffected.
As for the character of Bruno, I think he is most certainly Cohen's third wheel, Borat and Ali G seem much more developed and fluid, Bruno also resembles a make-upless Cohen far too much. His whole persona as "The biggest superstar out of Austria since Hitler" seems hard done, and manlikingman stereotypes are so cliché, nether the less he is acted out almost to perfection and never shows any breakage of character, still however it would have been nice to see more genitalia
The final issue is the abundance of full frontal male nudity, I for one applaud it as it shows a more liberal Hollywood than yesteryear, a less prudish one. Sadly though the crazy church goers will most likely put some voodoo curse on it, making morons think twice. Meh, it does not matter as they are no longer a political power thank g... earth. Anyway's this is a step forward for the film industry and I think other movies should and will follow suit.
I give this picture the modest score of:
7/10

It's not just christians who are like that. In fact, most of the christians I know don't care about that subject. I don't care about the movie, but I wouldn't recomend it. Damn brit.

You do know that Bruno's supposed to be, well, ghey, right?

Blame Stosh.

T'was true that it was so my dear friend.
Posted by: Gzalzi
Posted by: BJR The reluctance to look at another man's genitalia on an extremely large screen does not make one homophobic.
I would assume you would not be reluctant to look at a woman's genitalia on an extremely large screen. Thus, homophobic.
No, you're wrong, and here's why. If I see a random vagina, unless I'm already in that type of mood, I'd probably look away. That body part isn't necessarily attractive on its own. If the owner of said body part is attractive to me, then I'd look. But Sacha Baron Cohen is an extremely ugly man, and does not have an attractive body at all (as seen in Borat). There is nothing wrong with not wanting to see it. I've seen many females cringe upon certain scenes in Borat; does their reluctance make them an automatic lesbian? Get out of here with your faulty logic, vegetable.

heard it was bad

Read the review. Good language use. Going to see it tonight, actually, although my expectations are low.

Your logic is flawed, also I was speaking of the majority during that first sentence, and of my opinion in the latter ones.
-
I'm not a homophobe, but I'm still not comfortable in front of a huge screen showing a dong.
Posted by: Chuck Fickins Read the whole thing first.
I did, and I was somewhat confused by it. I have no idea what you were trying to say; you seem to go back and forth between hating it an liking it.
Posted by: Samuelsoon I am not menlikingmenaphobic, as you put it. But i still do not want to see someones genitalia every 45 seconds. This goes for women as well. If your only chance at comedy is that, then well I dont know. Borat was meh, and from the looks of it, Bruno will be less than meh.
Racist.

I couldn't believe how the parents of those child actors would do anything to get their child in the pictures with OJ!

I think it was in poor taste.

As a God fearing American I honestly feel that this movie should be banned in the States at least. Cohen should be a person non gratis.
