I've never been good at PvP. I believe my best KD to date is 3.5. However, I need kills with swords to complete this quest. I realize that I can use the hilt, but I keep running into:
Shotguns
Rocket launchers
LMGs
Snipers
Any ranged primary
Any non-ranged primary (TLW)
Any and all Supers
Melees
Other swords (rarely)
Falling off map
Tricked into jumping off map (once)
And players with an ounce of PvP skill.
How did you guys get your sword kills in PvP?
This will probably be blatantly ignored, but I will make it as obvious as possible: I WANT NO "GIT GUD SKRUB" POSTS. I hope that got my point across.
Edit 1:
So I'm hearing a lot of "use block". Wouldn't that waste a lot of heavy though? And I'm just too bad at PvP to play rumble...
Edit 2:
To make myself feel better about this quest, I imagine that it could be worse. If you imagine that they made it like Chaperone/Thorn, you feel like it isn't so bad.
Edit 3:
Woah! 100 replies! Didn't see that coming. Keep the tips coming guys! Both for me and others with the same struggle.
Edit 4:
200!!! Thanks for the tips! I finally completed that part! Let's go for 300 and help out those who are struggling.

Starting out. Looked at your profile. You have a better K/D than I do. So you should be able to get this done. Also a Titan, good choice. So I would load up control, or Iron Banner right now. The objective based game means you should have a clearer ideas of where people are spawning and where they are headed. Use the 3rd person camera to your advantage on corners. Try to stay with a teammate. The best strategy was waiting for the other players to rush your teammates, or chase them. Then you hit them from the back or side. Learn to retreat and play conservatively. If there is too much open ground between you and your opponent they have a good chance in killing you before you get to them. Learn to block. It doesn't consume much ammo, and it's a lifesaver. It's easiest if you can get on voice chat with your teammates. You can set up ambushes or draw people out.

Be a hunter. Save super until heavy appears. Clear the area of enemies. Pick up heavy. Go invisible. Sneak around and slash. Here's the good news. You only have to do this part of all three exotic sword quests once. You can look up how to do all three exotic sword quests using your primary character and skipping half of the bounty on the second and third time through.

This is, how I did it Went to regular control When my teammates were shooting at the other team I'd sneak around and bonk the enemy on the head with the hilt! Kind of crappy I know, not exactly playing the objective, but it's tough to get sword melee kills face to face Most of the time I didn't even get heavy, just snuck around and ambushed players that were distracted or just not paying attention. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to sneak and bonk lol, I know I was! I even went on a kill streak a couple times, just with the hilt lol I'm average at best in crucible. I rarely play crucible except for iron banner and now the daily for marks

You don't need to hilt around like an idiot. I got the bounty done in 4 games using just heavy ammo. Here's what you do: 1) Be patient. You want to stay back and let your team kill the other teams heavy ammo users. 2) Be sneaky. Hide around corners and crouch so people don't see you coming. 3) Be ready. Once you have snuck up to an area on the map where you know many enemies are, be ready to unleash upon them as they likely won't see you coming. Use Third Person view to your advantage. You can easily kill an entire team if they are turned to attack your teammate and don't see you. 4) Use the block. Use the block.
Use the block.
I'm going to be completely honest, and as I really suck at pvp in general, take it in whatever way you want. Go into Mayhem Rumble. Granted, you hace to deal with supers everywhere, but the chances to get sword (or hilt) kills is better, and easier. I've done both solar and void this way, and even though it may take 4-5 games to complete, it can be done. And if you're anything like me, you might have a little fun while doing it :)

When you use just the hilt, when you hit your first melee immediately jump and immediately melee again. You can do this extremely fast with the right timing.
-
I did it in ib. Corner trapping shotgun style. Watch you radar and use blind corners to your advantage. Any distance that you can't close in the span of 2 seconds is too far, disengage drop behind the corner back up enough so two swings will close the distance and kill. Generally that's enough distance that most shotties won't 1 shot and not enough time to pull a second shot.

Best advice I can give, coming from a terrible pvp player, is to try and do it during Mayhem. Heavy spawns fast and most ppl are running around like idiots. It's mostly utter confusion and that helps with hilt only kills, too. Some matches, I'd be lucky to get 1-2 kills. Others I did 7+. Hang in there and good luck.

Take advantage of the 3rd person view and look around corners that way. Crouch if you need to so that you won't be constantly on radar. Blocking does help a lot also, block then swipe.
-
Don't be a bitch to your team and only use the hilt. Wait for heavy and be useful to your team.
-
DO NOT TRY You really have to not try, just play the game and make sure you are using the hilt also, dont just wait for heavy, once you have heavy, make sure you block.
-
Use the crap out of your shield
-
I just ran about with no ammo with the sword equipped two hitting people to death. Took about 5 games.

>If you're a warlock, you're probably in for the worst. Titans and Hunters can utilize perks that give them a better chance. >The blocking ability is your friend. It'll cause non-matching sword strikers to stagger, and can prevent death from most supers that don't match it. It drains energy, yes, but at like 1 point per 5 seconds of no damage. Small arms don't seen to impact the energy much. >I had the best luck with sword kills in Rumble and 3v3 modes.

Get heavy ammo. Hide around corner. Jump out and kill someone as they run past. Repeat as necessary
-
Went into classic 6v6. Rekt some scrubs.
-
Did mine in about an hour on rumble matches. And I consider myself to be like the SD Jones or Mike Sharpe of PvP. I'm always losing. It seems worse than it is when you're staring 25 in the face and you despise PvP.

Edited by Circadian Wolf: 10/15/2015 11:41:38 PMGrab the heavy and then hide at the back of your team's side of the map. Look at the kill feed and when heavy weapons stop popping up, get going. The block is very good for dealing with shotgunners but unless you're retreating to cover don't use it at range. NEVER use it to close a medium to large gap with an opponent, they have plenty of time to plan a counter to your sword. Keep your ears open. Learn to recognise the audio ques of supers and when you hear one, assume it is the enemy team and immediately retreat towards your team's side, even if there aren't any enemies on your radar. You can then watch the kill feed to determine whether the super is from your team or your opponents. Aside from that, try to be active. If you camp behind corners people will see you on the radar and switch to shotguns, making it harder to kill them and live. Move around the map and kill enemies you come across, don't go chasing them too far as they may try to trick you (Fight, win!). Hope this helps :D

Inferno clash. I've ended up near the top of my team using nothing but the sword hilt. I've followed people across the map waiting for them to pause to shoot and beat them to death with my Flashlight of Doom.
-
Stay close quarters. Warlock Sun singer with radiant skin and sword Titan Defender with armor of light and sword Hunter Invisibility with sword When you pick up heavy, run for cover till everyone spends theirs, then sneak around the close encounter areas while crouching. Completed all three characters this morning during iron banner.

Crouching I got 15 Kills In one game
-
Did the PvP kills last night on classic 6v6 mode. Control is great for it. The "crouch and pounce" strategy works, as well as simply staying on the move. I moved just behind a group of teammates and would sweep around to beat down opponents who were distracted by the crowd. Got it done in a few games, plus it's fun to play kamikaze with just a hilt. Above all else though, best advice I can give is to have fun with it. Goes so much smoother if you can laugh off a lot of the deaths, and makes getting the kills feel that much better. Best of luck.

Inferno clash or control. I got 9 hilt kills in one game lol. The sword kills in PvP are not difficult at all. Block is your best friend.
