Easy: (Think I went overboard a little bit)
Halo is a large disc like object made by a race called the forerunners...it was created to discharge a single large burst of energy which would stop all DNA strands(I think) "sterilizing" every species in the galaxy to stop the flood race from spreading and taking over space and ultimately strengthening them and creating a single hive minded race thought the galaxy
So they basically killed all organic sentient beings to stop one race...pretty brutal even though they restored them in the end still don't you think there could've been a better option
Lucky for you, my example LASO question explains why I think it was justified. Some of the information may be new to you, but you should get the gist of it.
Well(I stayed up all night reading into it) The forerunners were already losing from the start the flood had better tactics and adapted to the tactics of the forerunners but the thing is the forerunners reacted to slow by the time they reacted it was already to late the flood had already taken most of Orion's arm and were beginning to assault the forerunner bases...now on to my question: could the forerunners have done something different? My response: In my o3.14nion yes they could've done something different if they reacted quicker( yes I know the flood move from planet to planet and it only took three years to build up that army of theirs..but that's besides the point) the activation of the Halo ring wouldn't have been necessary therefore saving the sentient life forms and beings from annihilation
