Why make weapon parts MORE rare?

Some of us (like me, who had three of every gun maxed out prior to ttk) are already really hurting for weapon parts. Now you're reducing the amount we get from blues and greens? Totally uncalled for. Edit: from Danceshanedance
Reducing weapon parts makes no sense whatsoever in the taken king. With the expansion we're encouraged to infuse weapons rather than dismantle them. This costs weapon parts we already have and also denies us the weapon parts from the weapon we may have discarded.
Edit 2: *buys sorrow emote * *drops to knees to grieve death of weapon parts* Edit 3: lots of folks seem to want an explanation. Please post and maybe we can get an answer! Edit 4: From Cookieniki
If we are supposed to infuse weapons instead of dismantle them that means weapon parts are already more hard to get in TTK. That's why I don't agree with this nerf, it's not consistent with the new gear leveling system TTK introduced.
Edit 5: ayyy trending Edit 6: literally noone cares that you have over nine thousand weapon parts. If you came here to say that, you should apologize for being a troll and gtfo Edit 7: From sb001001
I thought the part of getting more weapon drops in TTK was actually to try them out and have some fun using them? Now, I’ll only level up the weapons I know 100% that’ll be useful to me, making me scrap all other without even giving them a try. I fail to see how this makes destiny more fun...
Edit 8: Lots of folks are linking these changes to the new eververse trade company. The more cynical of us believe weapon parts will become more available, sometime soon...From BR1M570N3:
The game is being tuned to create an economic imbalance wherein the player is always operating at a deficit for currency and/or materials. They'll do this slowly and in the most imperceptible ways possible so as to keep people playing while they gradually dial up the inconvenience factor, and tempt people to hit the "easy button".
Edit 9: SPEEDFREAKJJ:
In the end...it is totally crap that they first, design a new way to play the game in how we are encouraged now to get gun we might like, then need to infuse it to be more usefull in heroic strikes, nightfall, etc and to then make a vital resource used to infuse weapons more tedious to obtain is most definately un-called for at least. To call it a kick in the junk is probably more accurate.
Edit 10: we got an answer! Time to digest it in the bile filled forum sac. From Deej:
“Why did you change the economy for Strange Coins and Weapon Parts?” In Year 2, we took steps to streamline and simplify the economy for players, with hopes that providing more direct paths to gear and the stuff you needed to upgrade that gear would just be more satisfying across the board. Changes to economy of the game are made in the interest of preserving the value of the items in your inventory and ensuring that you have good uses for the things you’re saving. (????) Weapon Parts, specifically, have been particularly vexing. Some players use a LOT of Parts, whereas others use almost none. Still, we are very aware that this is a choke point for some players, and further adjustments may be in order.  In all cases, we're still watching our reports and listening to feedback, and we will continue to react to how things are going.
• It's consistent with bungie nerfing anything players think is fun. They probably looked at the data, saw a "players having fun" curve and hit the red alert! Fun? No no no, won't be having any of that, now, get out there and grind you filthy maggots!

    • don't know why you all are bitching, i have over 1600 weapon parts. i never used them for rep "just in case". just like i haven't broken down any of my year one guns, aside from duplicates.

    • Destiny loves to give you a shit ton of stuff you don't need(800 wormspore, 600 armor materials) and a little of what you want (78 weapon parts). Example, armor drops far more often than weapons even though bungie know you are far more likely to use a variety of weapons and only 1 set of ledgendary armor. It's annoying because you can spend a shit ton of weapon parts real fast

      • I've had no weapon parts for a few weeks. This is bullshit, when we need them more than ever they are reduced. If your low on weapon parts it can take hours to get enough blues to infuse and dismantle to level up a new exotic. Now i easily get 3x times the amount of armor engrams than weapon engrams. Why is this? Most of us run one set of armor and may not need armor materials hardly ever, but the game throws them at us. There needs to be an armor materials to weapon parts coversion from the speaker or banshee. Or just allow us to buy them with glimmer.

        • Who knows man. I cant understand some of these changes that bungie implements. Its like they dont test or think things through. If only one person was on the forums every day they should have noticed a long time ago that weapon parts are on a severe drought. Stupid man.

            • Basically I've learned that Bungie will change something, collect tears. Change things, collect more tears....etc. etc. The main point, unlike what deej says, is to get you to play the game more.

            • At least let me trade wormspore for parts yeah? Dying for weapon parts to upgrade some guns. I actually infuse stuff so I get less parts than if I were to scrap everything. Tears collected, gg bungie.

                • Give us a way to buy weapon parts with in game currency or trade mats for them. I have multiple weapons that are stuck due to a lack of weapon parts.

                  • The thing that I don't understand from Deej is if bungie is aware that parts are a chokepoint for players, why did they go ahead and nerf the drop rate anyways? He mentions some bologna about "preserving the value of" things in your inventory. By making them artificially scarce? Come on.

                  • I think the issue is there are two groups of players those with no weapon parts and those with more than they could ever use basically. So they see they are seeing the top people with like 10k parts and not using them and seeing a problem and trying to fix it, but by doing so negatively afffecting the rest of the population.

I agree. I've already been struggling to get weapon parts with the implementation of infusion. Now it's even harder to get them. I don't have the time to grind strikes just to get engrams for weapon parts. No bueno

                        • Throttling resource availability like this does a couple things - one, it slows player progressions, thereby extending a player's engagement with the game. Secondly, it induces a "pain point" for players who want to progress weapons/gear but can't do so immediately for lack of said resources. Why would they do this, you ask? The answer is simple if you are open minded enough to accept it - because a fundamental concept of cash-shop games is to use scarcity of resources (among other things, like time gates) as an inducement for players to purchase in-game currency or materials with IRL cash. Though it doesn't seem like it a lot of times, these guys aren't idiots. From a business perspective, going to a cash-shop model makes all the sense in the world - especially since they're doing it on top of a release that people already paid cash for. But from a player's perspective? Been there. Done that. Spent thousands in cash shops. Never again.

                                  • Reduce coin drop... reduce weapon parts... reduce 3oC drop rate and effectiveness.... Can't fix nightfall loot table... can't fix raid loot table... says duplicate issue fixed, gets nothing but duplicates. Every action they have done has been to reduce what we get and elongate play time.
