I'm hoping someone has had some luck with these and will share their experience.
Edit: You guys have alot of awesome input. A popular view so far is that sidearms are excellent PvP weapons. With shotguns being nerfed I wonder if they'll play a much more dominant role.

If you run out of ammo with your primary you can panicswitch and unload with your sidearm

Used the Vestian Dynasty once for fun in control before TTK was out. It was awesome but I was blinking with my Warlock to confuse people and then pew pew them. It was really good but it is a underused weapon due to the stupid shotgun which is more lethal and effective than sidearms. However, the Iron Banana sidearm looks promising since it seems to be pretty effective mid range too.

They can stop rushers in their tracks cause of the decent range and high rof. Just gotta get a feel for kick and get the right perks (zen moment is great for sidearms)
-
Sidearms are starting to be the new shotguns. Though they are balanced since they don't deal enough damage to outgun primaries, that is depending if no one misses a shot.
-
They're just spam cannons. I've gotten more kills in Crucible with my Jabberhäkke than with a shotgun. (I suck at Crucible btw, so not that it matters.)
-
I ascended my shotgun with the Jabberhäkke.
-
Never use them. To be honest i forgot they even existed until i read this posts title lol.

I like using a scout rifle-sidearm-sword trio. It covers any range and is a very fun, in my opinion, set of weapons to use.
-
Use mine in short to mid range works great if you want to beat a fusion rifle or hand cannon but horrible for shotguns

Havoc Pigeon with Rangefinder and Reinforced Barrel, very good in the crucible.
-
I use them for the nightfalls where secondary weapon damage is favored, then combine those with a burn and sidearms are unstoppable weapons.
-
3 RepliesI use them in PVP now. Havoc pigeon allows me to defend myself in close range without getting in shot gun range. I use to use MIDA, but I now use Jade Rabbit. Rabbit is not that great of a gun at close range, but dominates everywhere else. It is an ideal scout rifle because it is a beast at mid-long range. Havoc provides me with the close range weapon that fits my play style. It kind of acts like a poor mans year 2 MIDA in close range. Very mobile and has a high rate of fire.

Just for fun when foolin on patrol, that's all I use rn for

Side arms are pretty useful in pvp. I use them when someone is rushing me

PvP. Used a Hawkwood in my first crucible match, and did very well even though I usually suck at PvP.

There's some rare and legendary ones that absolutely slaughter in PvP.
