It's the most frustrating thing in the game, in my opinion.
Phalanx/taken phalanx/super shieldio bros/Regicide Oryx all have this ridiculous knockback, which yknow, that's totally cool. You do you. But the amount of times I've just taken a hit that I should've easily survived and proceeded to get killed by wall collision? It's stupid.
I even got killed by the FOG surrounding the Oryx arena at the final stage of regicide. That doesn't even make sense! Why would I die by colliding with fog?!
It just adds a sense of random death, which doesn't make sense in a game that's largely about being strategic and aware of your surroundings. If I'm in a position where I'm thinking "it'd be beneficial for me to take this hit, because I know I'll easily survive the damage and it means I'll be able to get a few more important shots off or get this revive rather than turning and running", then just get killed by a wall anyway, not only does it feel unfair, but it has more than once been the cause of my fire team being "consumed by the darkness".
Don't even get me started on that ma'aul jetpack shieldbro guy. Run all you want, but he's gonna hit you, and if you just happen to be caught at the wrong angle, game over man.
Not a fan. Anyone else as opposed to the collision damage mechanic as I am? Honestly, I'd love to just see it removed. Maybe it'd help stop the cabal completely dominating the "most hated race" poll.
Do share your thoughts, if anyone can come up with a good argument for its inclusion then I would like to hear it, but I will say that, at least for me, gameplay> realism, I know it'd hurt in real life, so it makes sense, but I wouldn't pull flaming hammers from my pockets and take a sniper round to the face in real life either, so I'm gonna guess realism isn't really what they were going for in destiny.
CHEERS
Edit: just to clear this up because it's annoying, not once did I say "this should be changed and I am requesting a fix". No, I'm venting, because I'm not a fan of deaths that feel almost random. Have your views, tell me them, by all means. Just stop putting words in my mouth.

I'm fine with the mechanic, I just don't like how random it's activation is. Some times a phalanx shield bash moves you back a foot, other times it sends you to another planet. It doesn't make any sense.

Edited by Broke Back Mountaintop: 10/14/2015 2:23:38 AMIf only you had something this awesome happen all of the time. Then fail so hard. https://account.xbox.com/en-us/gameclip/3a998bf5-a7a9-4c1e-9b99-91f33cf1c494?gamerTag=Mogar%20ls%20Ready&scid=37770100-f9ae-4b80-9dad-7c1d0ec14469

1 ReplyThis one time... I swung my sword at Mau'ual... and HE went flying into the wall and insta-death'd. Such satisfacton.

There's been times where I've jumped, normal jump not a double jump, hit the ground and apparently my Guardian rolls his angle, falls down, cracks his head open through his helmet, and bleeds out instantly. So yeah, the collision detection mechanic needs toned down. Also getting stuck on random rocks and pebbles. Seriously, if I can step over it in real life there's no reason it should hold me up when I have magic powers.
-
I've always got a few rounds in my magazine in case I come face to face with Environmental Hazard or Architects. These elusive enemies are the most dangerous in the game, but I'll get them, oh I'll get them...
-
1 ReplyMy favourite is when you happen to land a two foot high jump onto the top of an angled rock and it kills you.
-
ma'aul jetpack shieldbro guy
When he comes for you, turn towards him, sprint as much as you have time for and jump over him, you get the biggest distance from his impact that way and you'rte health hardly takes a dent if it takes damage at all. Confuses the hell out of ma'aul jetpack shieldbro guy too. Most annoying is getting phalanx shield blasted off the edge in CoO and trying desperately to triple jump back on and just missing the edge of the court and dying.
-
1 ReplyI once jumped down the platform you start the Taniks strike on. Hit a rock, died instantly. Not even 30 seconds in the game. Fastest death in a fresh strike ever.
-
Nope. Always makes laugh to see it and/or have it happen.
-
Not to reference this to a real life situation..but if you went flying into a wall at high speed what do you expect to happen?
-
1 ReplyIf you melee Taken Phalanxes just before the blast their shields, you don't get launched
-
I'll leave this here

1 ReplyEdited by Kovathos: 10/13/2015 2:25:43 PMThe shield brother is fairly simple to dodge, learn to run at him and jump over as he jet packs and slams the ground where you were. Phalanx shields killing you by slamming you into terrain, fine, if you allowed a phalanx to get that close you deserve it if you die. Taken phalanxes? -blam!- them.
-
-Last one on fireteam -I run around on the last part of shield brothers strike -The Brother that slams pushes me against a wall -I self revive -He does it again -Wipe
-
The ma'aul dude is easy, when he comes toward you just jump over him as he uses his jet pack.
-
Its all part of the fun, get used to it.
-
I hate the 3 taken Phallex that spawn mid jumping puzzle when you do the taken war:Venus mission where you fight an echo where you fought Skolas. I had to melt them all just to not get gang banged by their air cannons. I got hit by the Warsaw in the saber strike today, so there's that to rage about also
-
Ehhh, git gud scrub.
-
Fall damage needs fixing, but I love death by wall.
-
1 ReplyI can see where the frustration comes from, but honestly I've been in love with getting Phalanx'd ever since it happened to me first week of Destiny. It helps that I'm a female Awoken so they always have that one dumb "ECH" death noise.

One day i'll have my revenge...

1 ReplyGot git by a taken phalanx, fly literally halfway across an open plane and barely tap a wall as I was coming to a stop...misadventure
-
I think it's hilarious, I laugh everytime either I or my friends get slammed into the wall
-
speak for yourself, oryxs dildos in kings fall are hands down the funniest way to die in this game

Edited by KilljoyIsABiyach: 10/13/2015 12:39:58 AMYesterday during the raid four of us died going up the lift, appearantly we weren't in the tube all the wall and hit our head going up. One of us would be "dumbass", but four we were just laughing. Of course nothing is more fun in the raid then trying to push each other off during the jumping puzzles, fun times there in our group.
