Only reason you can't hit 310 is because you would need 310 artifact for killing warpriest, golg, and oryx, 310 ghost, and 310 class item. Edit: also 310 legs since there are no exotic boots available at the current moment.

The only way to get above 300 light gear that doesn't involve the raid is to do the exotic sword quest or get the black spindle. Edit: also once you hit 300 light you have a pretty hood chance that decrypting normal exotics gets you a 310 version

I've gotten 300 blues, think I was around 300 before the raid.

Court of oryx, those blues and legendaries drop pretty quick and high, such as 299 chest peice etc,then the higher ur light the better chance of obtaining higher light gear from engrams, that's how I did it anyway

You get better gear the longer you stay in the playlist (strike/crucible) ie don't go to orbit/tower. I got a 300 cloak after 5 straight strikes last night

You will also get a 310 artifact from finishing the eris quests and the exotic sword comes as 310. You can definitely get over 300 without the raid. Edit: didn't realize you only got the artifact after the raid. So only the sword and 310 exotic drops once you hit 300.

I would say start doing strikes, strikes, strikes and use Three of Coins on every boss with a skull as his level icon. You'll surely get exotic engrams to fall and a bunch of legendary engrams too. I would say look through the forums and LFG for a raid fireteam and take on Oryx and learn the raid, because the raid's drops are guaranteed equal or higher stats. I got the raid heavy machine gun at the beginning of the raid and it had 300 attack. After we beat Oryx, it dropped for me again but this time for 307 attack..

Get to 300 without the raid then grind 3oc for 310 drops. Got all my characters over 300 while waiting for ny friends to be ready to raid.
