It will go away. If everyone in the community shows some self restraint and doesn't spend a penny on "silver", they'll scrap it.
EDIT: Looks like some people forgot the Collectors Edition came with physical collectibles. And yes, the Strange Coin does look nice on the shelf with my other gaming collectibles.
EDIT: Seriously, anyone who thinks people who bought the collectors edition for 80 bucks paid that just to get three emotes and three class items must be so brainwashed by pre-order culture that they've forgotten that collectors edition and pre-order bonus's used to come with, and sometimes still do come with, actual physical collectibles.
EDIT: Saying you'll do it to "support Bungie" is not a valid argument. 60 for the game, 20 for the expansion pass, and 40 for TTK, is plenty of damn support.
EDIT AGAIN:
Our plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year. It has been, and continues to be, our goal to deliver updates to the game. Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests
Hmmm, interesting, I don't see the word "free" followed by "DLC" anywhere in there.
EDIT: Anyone who's read more than one Kotaku article knows their specialty is rumors and speculation. Show me a confirmed verifiable quote from a Bungie employee confirming free DLC out of this.
