Not trying to bash you or be rude but, basically thats how rockets work too right? Also potentially any machine gun can get more kills. Also the disc travels very slowly. There are quite a few checks that keep this weapon balanced. I understand getting killed by it can be frustrating but try to look at it from the other side its easy to kill them before they even shoot a bolt because of the long animation. Also when picking up ammo it doesn't fill it up all the way to 81 so that is another limiter. Once again I am not trying to be mean or rude but, I feel like based on these factors the bolt caster is not OP.

Which is something I agree with. The bolt caster isn't op just like every other gun in this game. Nothing in this game is op. Now there are ways to exploit and manipulate but that's another thing. But while I was using the sword I did not die against anybody shooting who challenged me. I would simply throw the energy, get shot, enemy died, continue on my way. Pretty much golden gun and sunbreaker would be the only ones to shoot me down. Now rocket launchers are not as simple to use as the sword. Yes with proximity , tracking, more ammo, high velocity , high blast radius these weapons no doubt do the job very well. But to track you need to aim and from hip fire you need to lead a shot or fire in the general direction of the target. With bolt you have the entire area in your line of sight and all you have to do is press the button once the enemy is in front of you. Not saying either is actually op. Not saying one is better than the other. I personally prefer machine guns.
