I love hand cannons and I miss being able to use them the way I used to. The biggest issue I have right now with hand cannons is their range. The range got over nerfed. So much so, that they aren't as effective in PVE as pulse rifles or auto rifles. In PVP they are "ok" but pulse rifles are beginning to take over and dominate (the new norm.....red death). The balance is not there. I'm not saying they need as much range as they had in House of Wolves, but they need a bit more to make them effective again. I find myself avoiding them altogether for a pulse rifle and that's not how this should be. We should be able to choose what guns we like and be able to use them effectively.
I also think they need to go back to how much ammo they had in the clip before. I spend more time reloading now then shooting, and it just doesn't put as much dmg down range as a pulse rifle, auto rifle and even a scout rifle would. I know they are supposed to be "high impact, high damage" weapons, but I can still 2 shot enemies in PVE and PVP with pulse rifles anyways, so it makes them seem a little useless. They are turning into how auto rifles were in House of Wolves.

I think giving back some range would help a bit but a little skill always helps.

I found a year two fatebringer with better range than a sniper and its really decent in PvE.. I haven't tried it in pvp. Can't bring myself to play that any more with all the crap going on.

1 ReplyYup they really made them completely -blam!-ing useless which is a shame because before it felt like a skill based weapon class that rewarded accuracy with power. They should be a pulse rifle counter. If you have the accuracy you should be rewarded with powerful shots. It's so incredibly unrewarding to use hand cannons now that they have shit range and headshots don't turn into headshots.

I still do well with time. I would say I had about a 10% drop in precision kills. Which sucks. I have noticed that if i close the gap a bit it's much better. Range feels good to me, but they really gotta tighten up the cone a bit.

I'm not having this problem. I have The Revelator at 292 Attack and I can easily kill someone in four shots or less (or your money back!). Here's a couple of tips for post-nerf handcannons: - Always try to land the first shot. This needs no explanation. -Always move while you're aiming. I still don't understand this, but it works, so... -Shoot at the shoulders. Chances are very small that you'll land a headshot with handcannons these days.

6 RepliesThe main problem I have found with the hand cannon nerf is not the actual range drop off, its the accuracy cone thats has been WAY over nerf. Hand cannon do not shoot where you aim at. To test this, aim at some corner or a wall with some kind of line so you can always aim at the same spot. Shot and reposition after every shot and you will see that your shots are always off. So when you are just past short range you have a high chance of missing even if your red dot is on the ennemy. Ridiculous.

Well every nerf is based off the community so I get more up set at our community than anyone else.
-
1 ReplyHand cannons are still viable just need to time you're shots.. Thorn still a beast tlw still -blam!-s at close.. Don't see an issue... I think all the guns are good imo. All negative comments will be ignored.

Tru Dat!

2 RepliesTell that to hawkmoon.

2 RepliesLOL umm no it's a cqc weapon and it now has what it needed " damage fall off " hand cannons are now balanced so now they aren't " mini scout rifles "
-
Fun gunplay is one of the few things this game did right. So of course the <bleeps> at Bungle are determined to ruin it.
-
PvE- They run out of ammo so easily now. PvP- Hit detection and stuff has destroyed them. Hawkmoon feels nice in PvE but feels lousy in PvP.
-
I agree that HC has been nerfed just a tad far.. Just a few too many times I've been pwned in mid range because my HC range/accuracy has put the shot just wide or something. I'm no MLG, but being fair some of these shots should have landed. It's not that big of a problem for me, but I still think the "feel" is off. If anyone checks, yes my crucible is terrible and I'm not proud of it, but I'm just saying the "feel" is off. And all these people replying Hawkmoon is just being silly; Hawkmoon's power comes in bonus damage, which counts for jack if the accuracy of the weapon lets you down. Not saying Hawkmoon isn't powerful, just irrelevant argument to HC range nerf. tl;dr I think it's been nerfed a touch far

The hawkmoon I'm using now compared to The Last Word I was using from year 1 is abysmal

5 RepliesHand Cannons had their time, now let something else have a chance will you?
-
6 RepliesAccuracy is also tied into the range bar as well as aim assist. Exotic guns should have never been touched. Their exotics for crying out loud. Red death was viable before the nerf to handcannons but most people didn't know how to use it properly.

My hawkemoon says goodbye to your kill streak

Edited by Ascent_Cobra: 10/12/2015 4:34:58 AMConcerning PVE: Hand cannons are exactly where they should be. You, and millions of others, grew accustomed to a grossly overpowered weapon class in year one. Pulse/auto rifles were nearly dead in PVE by the end of year 1. Meanwhile, hand cannons were easily and efficiently taking care of every combat situation thrown at them (with zero drawbacks compared to the other 3 weapon classes) with the exception of -extreme- range encounters where scouts might actually be equipped if someone didn't have black hammer etc. Auto rifles, as a weapon class, are currently worse than hand cannons BTW.

Time your shots, makes your accuracy much higher on them
-
3 RepliesPretty sure this bum crying so they can bring back thorn and tlw so he's can get kill again. Learn some skill.
-
Almost...I think their garbage. ..last word I sure as hell wouldn't take up an exotic slot for and it was my most used exotic in yr one

Ace of spades is a savage in PvE

7 RepliesHawkmoon is still OP, just sayin.

Hawkmoon is good sometimes you could even get a two shot kill
