Unfortunately for us, Bungie isn't CD Projekt Red. Those people know how to take care of their fans.

Different companies will have differences in beliefs & financial practices. Personally, I'm choosing to take Bungie at their word that the ETC will not end up having stuff that equates into pay to win. If they get to that point, then I'll move on to something else. I'm fine with microtransactions when they are purely cosmetic.
