Your ghost detects it if you bring it up during the fight. I destroyed it and tried jumping in but the strike ended before I could find anything. You also take constant damage while you're there so it might be nothing.

Yeah the shaft goes straight to the pit that the shank came out from, which equals death, its nothing

There is also an area accessible on the left side under the electrified water in the room where you grenade Rasputin awake. I got there before TTK dropped. It seemed out of place but I haven't tried going back since.
