Spartan 259 vs Spartan 2 Malcolm 059

"This is Sierra-259, you got Spartans on the ground sir. We're not going anywhere." - Spartan 259 I do not believe Spartan 259 is Spartan 2 Malcolm 059. Malcolm 059 died when he had to jump from a pelican entering Reach. Therefore he was never on the ground and would not have been able to radio in. Also why would Malcolm 059 radio in and not the leader of his team Fred 104? I know there's already 2 similar threads, but I feel I need to make a new one to get my point across. This thread is about the possibility or impossibility of Sierra 259 being Malcolm 059, so please stay on topic. As in don't discuss wether or not sierra 259 is a spartan or SII Class II
During the briefing there were only 25 Spartans. And that was every Spartan apart from Gray team. 2 more are on that Pelican. Well since I hate to be proved wrong I did dig it up. Source And, as Eric Trautmann once responded: "Re: Spartan strength: I am aware that there is an APPARENT discrepancy between the reported number of Spartans and the ACTUAL number of Spartans. Emphasis on APPARENT. ;) We leave lots of hooks for future development buried in the text, to accomodate several ideas/stories we have percolating. Some may see the light of day, some may not. In general, its best to chalk such discrepancies up to "the fog of war" and if we get the chance, we've got a great explanation for the apparent discontinuity." [Edited on 06.13.2009 9:13 PM PDT]

 • Just throwing this out there, because I was on halopedia earlier today and was reading up of FS. Apparently there is a slight problem with the number of Spartans who were in the Pelican that dropped 'em off. And apparently someone said that, that wasn't a mistake, but would be explained in the future (like how Cole Protocol explains the 3 Spartans on battlefields to distant to be easily recalled from tFoR). Could he be one of them? I am aware of the possibly fallacies with halopedia, so I cannot state that any of the above is necessarily true as I'm far to tired to go get those books and re-read them for the specific number of Spartans and then search through years of interviews for one talking about that.

 •
Posted by: MLG Cheehwawa My theory -- A man from the HIGHCOM branch in space radios for NOVA1 (one of the lieutenants in charge of Charlie Company, dispatched to get the NOVA bomb, but later redirected to defend the generators) after they accidentally bomb the marines, killing all but 4 of them.
I disagree with this assessment, if only because I believe a military that wants to keep their forces a bit mysterious to their enemies wouldn't name them after what they're doing. NOVA1 going after Nova bomb(s)? Come on, I like to think that future humanity knows what it's doing with its covert ops. But I don't have evidence to support my belief on this, so I'll respect that yours is still as viable as mine. As for the spartan bit, I imagine you're absolutely right and the topic starter is right -- this is a Spartan we've never seen before that has a serial number in the two-hundreds, not a spartan mis-identifying itself or identifying itself differently (since both are mistakes, which we know Spartans don't do). Spartan 259 sounds like a tough guy, to me. I hope he turns out to be one we know of but don't know the serial number of.

 • My theory -- A man from the HIGHCOM branch in space radios for NOVA1 (one of the lieutenants in charge of Charlie Company, dispatched to get the NOVA bomb, but later redirected to defend the generators) after they accidentally bomb the marines, killing all but 4 of them. Fred is busy speaking with Whitcomb (who was part of groundside HIGHCOM) so when the frantic call came in, S-259 (an unnamed Spartan; there are 14 unnamed Spartans fighting on Reach, most part of Beta team later left to defend the generators) answers while Fred is busy: You've got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere. [Edited on 06.13.2009 6:23 PM PDT]

 • He is one of the 30 spartans who fought in the battle of Reach. it doesn't mean we play as him. You hear two other spartans talk as well. They wanted to have spartans talk to let us know that we would play as them but not a main spartan to ruin the story. That's what I believe because spartan's 259 and 320 are not main spartans that survive the battle of reach. The third is Fred who is on the pelican and then jumps out.
