Honest question for everyone who is upset about this news. If you're not interested in Destiny... if you've never played Destiny... then why would you post here?
It's been 5 years since Bungie made Halo or any other game that isn't Destiny... so if Destiny is of no interest to you, why are you still here?
Not trying to be argumentative. I'm genuinely curious. I've been a b-net user for close to 10 years now. I used to post here all the time back in the Halo 3-ODST-Reach days. Then Halo went to 343. So when I wanted to talk about Halo, I went to Waypoint. My interest in Halo has since weakened, so I stopped visiting Waypoint. I've made friends here, as well as at Waypoint, HBO, DBO, and a half dozen other sites over the years. But I don't continue to post on a forum if I have no interest in the very subject the forum is dedicated to.
To me, all this negativity comes across as people just looking for reasons to be mad. I believe Deej when he says that over 99% of the active users already have Destiny accounts. And the remaining <1 percent... I say again: why do you post here?

You mean 20% play destiny and the remaining 80% right?

Edited by Xiphos119: 10/2/2015 12:49:54 AMPeople stick around because they're invested in the community as a whole - not just one particular aspect of it, as I see it. To me, you shouldn't necessarily have to like/play Destiny to be here. There were several fans of Halo back in the day that hated, say Halo: Reach, but stuck around because they came for 3 and ODST. They invested time and built relationships here and genuinely wanted to stick around even though they may not have enjoyed the recent installment. The site, particularly the Community subforum - has been for Bungie fans. If you (not you specifically, but you get what I mean) joined because of a certain game, that's fine, that's your introduction to the Bungie community. You can learn a lot and even be introduced to new games - I learned about Marathon back when I joined for Halo 3 and bought Durandal on the 360 because of it. To several users, both new and old, this place has become their Internet home. They come here because of a myriad of reasons: they like Bungie, or the community, or the layout, etc. As I said earlier in this thread, you don't/shouldn't have to like every game Bungie puts out to be a fan, just as you shouldn't have to like every song from your favorite musician. Even though Bungie doesn't make Halo anymore, whether they like it or not, it plays a huge part in their legacy. Probably the biggest since they were on the brink of bankruptcy before Microsoft swung in and saved their asses. To many folk, Bungie is basically trying to bury the past instead of respecting it or embracing it. Yes, Destiny is the here and now, and is certainly the future, there's no denying that. However, many people feel insulted because they feel as if Bungie is in denial about their past, which those people were a part of. On top of that, people feel like that the forum have essentially become bundled with the game. Something that was free to them yesterday was suddenly snatched away and packaged with a game they dislike. Personally, I'm on the fence about the whole situation. I strongly believe though there could have been a better way. This seems like the easy route to cleaning up the forums, when there have been several threads and suggestions over the past few years on how to clean up the forums. Many people who helped make these suggestions within the community are a bit ticked off because Bungie didn't reciprocate like they once did and then came up with the current policy. I hope this helps. And thank you for being concerned and considerate to those who are having an issue and not being the typical "Get Over It" kind of guy.

I can only speak for myself here, but this is my perspective.. I dabble in other forms of social media, but Bnet has been my home for over 10 years now. I have never invested this much time into any other website in my life. This is the community I come to several times a day, every day. And this is the site that introduced me to some of the greatest people I've had the pleasure of calling friends. And though I personally don't care for their newest game (though I do own it), I feel that my attachment to this community far outweighs weather or not I like their current product. I loved everything Bungie touched until somewhat recently.. and who knows.. I may love everything they put out next. So why push me away from a place that I've been so dedicated to for so long just because Destiny isn't my cup of tea? I understand that in a lot of ways this all seems melodramatic. I mean.. why the hell would anyone actually form attachments to a corporate website? Why would you fool yourself into believing that faceless avatars could become your friends? But by golly.. for a lot of us.. we did. And we don't want to see these friends pushed away.

I think it really affects the off-topic community. We came for halo stats and whatnot, and stayed for the community.
-
As the old site used to say "Come for the stats, stay for the lame jokes."
-
Precisely, I only didn't say that because someone else already did in another sub-thread.

We've been here a while and have had the pleasure to make acquaintances. We've vested time here. This is #Offtopic, a derivative of The Flood. This is not the place to talk about Destiny, so why should we need to play it?
