This Idea was sparked by some people over at CompoundIntelligence.
I have some proof (indirect or otherwise) that Sandtrap, Epitaph, and Sandbox are all on Reach.
Sounds crazy right? Wrong!
I'll start with Sandtrap:
In Halo FoR, Reach is completely glassed. It's theoretically possible that a planet could become a giant desert post-glassing. It was also said that the Covenant stayed in the area of Reach after the Humans fled, read the Sandtrap description: "Although the Brute occupiers have been driven from this ancient structure, they left plenty to remember them by."
Brute=Covenant
So the Covenant were in the area of Sandtrap and occupied it.
I know that this has been brought up before, but I believe one of the 6 towers in the distance is Epitaph.
Also, note the Eye-Meltingly close star in the sky.
Epitaph:
Hey look, you can see the same star on this level as you can on Sandtrap. It's the same star, about the same distance.
Also, side note that's irrelevant to this, it's possible that there's another Portal to the Ark under Epitaph based on the 7 strips that extend from the base.
And Finally
Sandbox:

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/700/planetonsandbox.jpg
The above pic is from the Halo: Reach trailer, and the lower is from Sandbox (Credit to BigJimboner).
Also, note that Sandbox has 6 towers (I believe), so it's possible that they are the towers in the distance from Sandtrap.
Add-on: I implied at one point that the glassed planet could have been shattered and that it would be an outer shell, but most people didn't catch it, so I thought I'd just make sure everyone knows that now.

That structure was probobly on the brute planet if thay had made it on reach it would have been mutch more advanced

Bungie has said these maps are on the Ark, and they resemble it in many ways.
-
Everyone! Im sorry this is completely off topic but, a person i was with playing on xbox live, gamertag iRusko, has told me he already has Halo:ODST 18 days before release, so it is obviously a pirated version, i have filed complaints against his profile on xbox live, and i implore you all to do the same, and if anyone the bungie staff read this, BAN HIM!!! and check his friends list, because im sure there's more than just him. Thanks

I was forgeing the other day on Santrap, when something caught my eye, on all of the gold colored pieces on the map, the ones that look like trim on the large coumns there are wrightings, some look like scribbles but some are clearly numbers, what are these numbers for, did some one ver add them up, also around the map inside structers are little green lights that loo like meters what are those for?
-
Very interesting story.
-
Very interesting! Never would have thought of that! Although, the planet near reach has thinner rings than the Sandbox planet and where is the other planet on Sandbox?
Posted by: joey1859 when someone "glasses" a planet, its literally "glasses" the outer surface of the planet is turned into a glass-like material, i dont think people take the word "glassing" literal enough.
Most materials like dirt and like you said sand would become glass. But a huge mountain or granite deposit would not. The majority would melt into a molten blob and cool. This would latter be blasted apart by covenant excavation equipment. All the rock would protect the structure. Now it is unlikely they are located on reach but its still explainable.
-
I always thought that Epitaph and Sandtrap were connected.
-
ok who has the time or want to find that out really

I dont even belive i just read five words of that. There is no f bombing way any of these are on Reach so you epic fail and if you'd liek to know pm me and ill tell you.

Not bad, not bad at all. But, I don't get the whole planet (or parts of it) being a desert. I read the part about the glass shattering, and that is possiible I suppose, but when a planet is glassed, nothing is left behind but ashes and shattered glass everywhere. And the only reason the Covenant stayed on Reach for a while was to try and recover the time and space bending Forerunner crystal located under the research facility in a previously unknown Forerunner structure. That small part of the planet had not yet been glassed (and only that part), and that was where most of the Covenant forces were. I just think that Sandtrap was either on the Ark or on Earth, that Epitaph was on the Ark, and that Sandbox was also either on the Ark or on Earth.

The planets in those 2 pictures are completely different. They don't have the same ring size and the view from sandbox is missing a moon. It is definitely not reach.

I actualy thought about that http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Reach The Middle Planet looks resonably close enough the the third planet which dose have a ring around it which makes it look like sandtrap is on its side. facing that planet or star, Also Santrap has Guardian Sentials (those big towers) created by forerunners.
Posted by: Duardo the planet on Sandtrap has rings around it. Reach doesn't.
Loads of Debris from the Reach battle blasted into dust perhaps? But good point.
Posted by: Duardo the planet on Sandtrap has rings around it. Reach doesn't.
I noticed that.
Posted by: BurntBiscuits Sigh... Do you actually believe that glass just naturally turns to sand if left long enough? Your understanding of physics is really quite poor. It doesn't. It can't. Even if you try, its impossible to turn glass back into sand. Glass is made from sand. It is an irresversable reaction, which means we can't react glass with something to make it back into pure sand. It's all part of thermodynamics. Anyway, seeming as Reach was glassed, how could these things survive? Just because they're Forunner doesn't make it impervious to physics. Even if these structures where still to stand, they would be horrifically damaged, while the structures we see are in perfectly good condition. Oh yes, the rocks in Sandtrapand Sandbox are a little worn. Ever thought that that could be caused due to age? As the wind travels over the sand, it brings sand particles with it. These colide with the rock, knocking atoms of rock of the main block. In a year, the difference would be unnoticable Over many, many years, it would begin to show. Plus, Epitaph is not one of towers featured in Sandtrap or Sandbox. It looks totally different. not even remotly similar! First, the towers in Sandbox and Sandtrap are black and connected on a ring. Epitaph is silver and standing on its own in the middle of nowhere. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that. I'll let you off if you turn out to be blind. So in other words, your theory makes no sense. Basic scientific knowledge destroys your idea. There is no way these locations could be Reach. But hey, well done for figuring out that glass is made from sand. Have a cookie.
Offering a counter point. The structure could have been under a mountain. Now the term "glassing" isn't universal. In my thinking different materials would react different ways. "Glassing" would only really work on sand as you said. It just sounds a hell of allot cooler, but the term itself is lose. Rock for instants would not turn to sand. Just melt and make lava/magma that would cool eventually. Now just for the sake of argument lets say that the towers where in a mountain. Or overtime was covered by dirt and rock etc. The plasma bombardment would melt away the top layer if not completely destroy it. Now the structure would have been shielded from the blast. After everything cooled the Covenant could have begun escavating. They would (using advance technology) surgically blast away rock into ruble to expose the structure. We all know glass is made from sand, but guess where sand comes from? Bits of tiny rock and crystal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't that amazing!? Now from the blasting rock and sand the stone part of the structure would be damaged. Scratched and scared like you said. The processes accelerated by the covenant escavation, coupled with the fact it would have already been scarred in someway. Now the towers are made of that Forerunner alloy that is incredibly tough. It would have far less damage on it. Now there probably is no relation with the maps themselves other than the sand. I'm not supporting this theory just pointing out counter points, accurate answers usually are made this way.

the structures on sand trap and sandbox (the towers) are not epitaph. epitaph looks completely different. plus it is so much larger. the stone structures on sand trap and sand box are not precursor, my proof. this. look at the fins atop the square structures. they are exactly the same as the fin object that is placeable on sandbox. as of these structures locations, they very well could be on reach. based on your evidence it seems like a good possibility.
Posted by: xXSXcaliburXx
Posted by: Lord Snakie Another point is the Aegis Fate. Why would a UNSC Frigate be inside Reach? Still doesn't add up, at least not as basically explained as it is at this point.
Because they destroyed the outer shell after glassing it, as I said in my first post.
This is my main problem with the theory. There's nothing, anywhere, that even remotely hits that Reach's surface is an outer shell. That's a pretty big jump to make.
-
Wow, is this thread really still going? Even the OP has realised his mistake and given up. Simply put, it's not true, the 'evidence' given by the OP is not enough to prove that Sandtrap and Sandbox is on Reach. If you want a detailed version as to why this can;t be true, refer to my previous post on Page 3. That should be enough. Now please, can we end this thread and let it die?
-
Why else would the Covenant have glassed the entire planet? And just to tell you the covies never glassed the entire planet... Read the books.
-
Epitaph looks alot like a buried portal to the Ark...
Posted by: Duardo the planet on Sandtrap has rings around it. Reach doesn't.
Urmm, that planet in the Reach photo in the background DOES have rings. [Edited on 08.12.2009 7:38 AM PDT]

Thanks for the info

If you look at epitath and how OP said it could be another portal, I think he is correct. Since there's no other towers for Miles and miles around, and because it dosent look like the others. I think that epitath may actualy be a ship. look at The Picture. It looks like a forunner ship like the one that they had from High charity and then under new mombasa. Inside the map we see a hologram that i dont know what is but might be some AI or something having to do with the ship. It is sitting in the 7 lines like the portal on earth and It looks like it but if you dissagree or dont care just ignore me. This is all speculation. If you agree, please feel free to help me out on this one. After all, we only get to be at the top of the map so we cant tell what it is.
