A Song for the Sun Quest Guide - Multi-kills under Radiance

Hi everyone, I've just completed this particular quest and felt obligated to post a small guide for others to struggle a little less than I did. This guide will be specifically focusing on part 5, Child of the Sun, since getting scorch and grenade kills are not challenging. Here are my recommendations ... Game Type: Mayhem - I HIGHLY recommend waiting until Mayhem Crucible modes are active. Attempting to collect Multi-kills during regular crucible will only frustrate you and make missing your multikills incredibly disappointing. Mayhem allows your super, grenades and melee abilities recharge very fast. Subclass Setup: Fusion Grenades - With good aim and a little practice, you'll find the Fusion Grenades are one-hit kills in most combat scenarios. Flame Shield - To keep you alive in close quarters during the precious time needed to stack those kills. A legitimate argument could be made for Brimstone, I still believe the shield is the better choice. Gift of the Sun - Gotta have more than just one grenade. Armor and Weapons: Bad Juju - Charges super every kill you make. Although Mayhem recharges your super fast anyway, you will still want that extra edge. Since longer ranged combat is limited in Mayhem, Bad Juju is a great choice that provides a healthy mix of balance and damage in both short and medium range distances. Claws of Ahamkara - Gives your Melee ability and extra charge. This makes the claws a must considering that only kills you make with either your Grenades or Melee abilites will count. Strategy and Tips During this game mode, it behooves you to be a healthy mix of an aggressive and opportunist play style. I do not recommend waiting in a corner to stalk kills since there are too many hammers and arrows flying all over the place. Start aggressive and try to knock a few kills out with your team. Usually if your team sticks together, you'll either wipe out most of their team or you'll be the first one to die. That's okay. Your mindset shouldn't necessarily be focused on winning the game, more so than just getting your super charged and handy for the right opportunity. Luckily, in Mayhem Clash, if you get the kills... the wins will come! Disclaimer ---- DO NOT ACTIVATE RADIANCE AND ROCKET LAUNCHER EVERYTHING! ONLY ABILITIES (GRENADES AND MELEE) WILL COUNT! I found this out the hard way unfortunately. Many of you that are here reading this problably have gotten frustrated doing the same thing as me. Follow the tips and strategies that worked for me below. You'll only have ~10 seconds to get the deed done. Start here. - Damage, but don't kill your opponents. Then Radiance back and finish the job. Many of your opponents will tend to run in groups. If you can damage at least one of them and let them kill you, you can create an opportunity to not only catch them off guard, but get good set up for a one-hit melee and/or a grenade since their already damaged. This strategy was my bread and butter that maximized my build described above where I had multiple melee charges and grenades ready and available. - Unless your sure, don't Radiance into a battle. I had only one opportunity that this was successful. It just so happened that I was platformed above the enemy that was engaged with others from my team that I actually had enough time to Radiance, and then float down to get the easy Grenade/Melee double kill. Other than these "blue moon" opportunities, I ended up either burning through my super or getting killed pretty effortlessly. - Be patient, but not too patient Sometimes it's better just to save your super and take your opponent out when your one-on-one doing this challenge. Other times you need to take a chance. This particular challenge is very high skill dependent and you'll need to constantly review your surroundings and radar to determine when you want to use your super. I would say my golden rule of thumb is after you've held on to your super for more than one or two deaths, you'll want to take a chance every once in a while to try and create an opportunity. Sitting on Radiance too long misses out on another potential opportunity. Pro Tips - Titans when using Hammer of Sol cannot be taken out by one fusion grenade. Plan accordingly. - Do not Radiance back into a Hunter Shadowshot super. This anchor prevents you from using Grenades and using Radiance to begin with. - Radiance Post Mortem kills (Grenade or Melee) will count. - Sticking a Grenade on an opponent, dying, then using Radiance to come back before your grenade kills your opponent ... DOES NOT COUNT. I have verified this scenario more than once. - You will go entire games without getting any multikills. - You will get frustrated if you don't take breaks. I hope this information helps. When I started implementing these strategies above it took me about three hours or so to complete all of this with breaks included. My K/D went as low as .44 to 2.22. Completing this quest in it's entirety will grant you Crucible/Faction experience in addition to the Paean of Resplendence Emblem.

For anyone struggling still with this I have a few points. 1. Mayhem any type will make this easy I averaged around 3 double kills each match. Some supers varied from a double to triple kill but got it done in about 5 games. 2. Using the gauntlets (claws of ahmakara) advised in this post is a must as you'll be able to one punch kill any opponent with radiance active. 3. Sword kills also count as they are classed as a melee. Try doing this in mayhem rumble as it was actually easier due to only 1 other person potentially having heavy. Hope these helps.

    • Thanks for the advice. Been sitting on this quest since before taken king because of frustration. I am taking your advice and will wait for mayhem week. I appreciate the setup you provided too. I don't have the claws but I do have sunbreakers. Wish me luck. This is the last subclass quest to complete for all three characters.

      • Thanks for the post... Saying I suck at PvP is an understatement... to get over 0.0 on my K/D (dig the lingo) happens once in a blue moon... I am now at this stage and will go for it... all for an emblem seems a real waste of time but being OCD I can tick the box :-)

Very nice and detailed post! But there is one thing you are wrong about. Weapon kills DO count as long as you are under radiance. Also, the "multikills" do not need to be "true multikills" such as a double down or triple down. You just need to score multiple kills while under a single casting of radiance. I am linking a Youtube video I made showing proof for both of my claims. For those too lazy to watch, in the video I score 2 kills more than 4 seconds apart using a sword while under radiance, and I still complete the quest. For the record, I understand that changes were made to the subclass quests at some point, so when I say you are wrong I mean at the time of my reply. As far as I know, when the quest was released, you were 100% correct in that only ability kills counted. ^_^

          • Sitting at about ten games and as many kills. My experience so far: One kill and five billion assists. Or Nothing. They should make assists count.

              • You have to love a quest which is basically a "Sunsinger introduction to Crucible" that has an objective that is nearly impossible for an introduction type quest. This objective should be changed (I hate the overuse of saying nerfed) to ability kills while Radiance is active instead of their poorly worded "multikills".

                    • Finally completed it and half of it was done in Iron Banner. My strategy was to use Bad Juju and radiant skin instead of fire born (oppoturnities were scarce or wasted using fire born for me:/ ), and instead of just throwing grenades like mad, I shot my enemies to lower their health and then spammed fire bolt grenades to take them out. And if anyone is close by, go in for the shoot and melee scorch kill. My multi kills mainly consisted of one scorch and one grenade kill. To stay alive during radiance, I used it when I had enough but not too much cover. Using radiance in the open with almost no cover killed me many times. So I recommend using it indoors and around corners etc. (shoot shoot hide throw grenade tactic). I used Heart of the Praxic Fire rather than Claws in Iron Banner since I had to keep my distance from my targets. Another way to make sure your radiance isn't wasted is to wait for the sunbreakers and nightstalkers to finish using their supers then use yours on the next respawn or so. There was twice where I managed to get three kills in radiance with abilities and that was so satisfying. And after all that shit comes a breeze with the Stormcaller emblem quest :D

                      • Stuck at 2/30... Wondering if you need to get the double kill medal during radiance or just need more than one kill during radiance? Thanks!
