4 RepliesRun the first mission on Phobos and listen to Ghost's dialogue when you scan the substance. It requires a living host. Biological. The Vex are war machines but their critical area is filled with radiolarian fluid. Micro organisms. They are biological machines. Servitors are worshipped as gods but, in the end, are just metal machines.

5 RepliesOryx's power is the ability to see the truth within his target's mind, to see what they fear the most. Then, he uses his power to grant them a gift in contrast to their weakness. However, Oryx's power relies on one thing: Free Will. Dregs have no free will. They are beaten and broken -essentially, slaves. They simply do as they are told and pray not to get noticed (because usually that's a bad thing). Collossi are high ranking Cabal, whose loyalty to the Empire borders on zealotry. Primus Tau'un was able to be taken because he went on that mission expecting to die. He even ordered his bond brothers to stay behind, so that they could command the Cabal forces. They wanted to go with him, but he wouldn't risk their lives. Oryx saw this truth in his mind, and used that to convince the Primus to submit to his Taking. Servitors and Shanks are simple machines. They only have programming, no mind of their own. The Vex, however, were easy to turn. They already view the Darkness as a god. It is something so unknowable, their only instinct was to worship it. Since Oryx is a vessel of the Darkness, they submitted to his power.

Defeating oryx. Taken ogre and colossus in one mission!

Go to destiny tracker and read the book of sorrow, in order. Really really awesome. Tells the whole story or oryx, crota, the sisters, and even how the vex were made. Really well done

Gotta save something for the next DLC.

3 RepliesEdited by Penhalion Wolfe: 9/28/2015 12:00:23 PMOryx can't take everyone. He can't for instance take guardians as they are protected by the travellers light (edit: or we are technically dead and the membrane needs a living host). If you listen to your ghost (from toland's journal) about the dreadnaught he says it shields them from the travellers light and you would be as a dying sun were you to go down into it's depths. Took me a while to realise a dying sun is a super nova!

I think you just have to look at these decisions from a gameplay perspective instead of a logical one. Lorewise, I don't think Taken Fallen would be very effective, because Oryx would need an Ether supply. Last I checked, the Hive don't use Ether, and without it Vandals become Dregs and Captains become Vandals. Also, did they have a Taken Ogre? Not a Hive Ogre but a Vex Ogre. Ya know, that giant gun platform thingy you run into every now and then on Venus?

17 RepliesDo shanks have any but of organic matter? Because that's all that oryx can control and I think it's why he can't control guardians because we're already dead. Same thing for shanks but it doesn't explain why dregs and colossus don't have taken form
-
Taken Guardians!! : O
-
Taken shank
-
Because servitors are bots and before you say vex are bots too vex are somewhat organic as mentioned in one of the vanilla missions so he could take the vexs will but not a machine.
-
3 RepliesImagine a taken servitor with over shield and spams cabal missiles like rocketsmcdickface? Phalanxes that "Warlock melee you" and Knights that spit out hot fire are enough.
-
Servitors are robots and shanks too and oryx cant take their will
-
I assumed it was because fallen worship servitors as godly figures so oryx wouldn't want false gods In his army or something
-
27 RepliesVex are Taken as well, so the robotics arguement makes no sense. Maybe they weren't Taken because they are mainly for defensive purposes instead of offensive? There never has been a group of Servitors attacking. I've seen 3 together at most, no more
-
3 RepliesEdited by PVBeachin: 9/28/2015 11:10:53 AMThere are no taken harpies, or hydras, or shanks of any kind that are taken either. Did everyone forget they exist?
-
1 ReplyDude don't wish that shit upon us.
-
4 RepliesThey're machines.
-
I think being Taken has something to do with willpower.
-
1 ReplyWhy no taken guardians?
-
2 RepliesWhat about dregs? They're organic
-
2 RepliesAnyone saying that vex aren't a living organic life form you're wrong. The white juice that comes out of them when we shoot their bellies is their life form
-
No taken shanks. Maybe if something is entirely robotic it can't be Taken.
