Healthcare, you won't be a millionaire but you'll be comfortable and it's recession proof

Construction, engineering, agricultural science and chemistry

2 RepliesWhat about architecture? Median salary is 70,000

1 ReplyPhilosophy and sociology were my two favorite classes, actually. Not dumb enough to make it my major though.
-
1 ReplyWhat about law

Edited by LotsaJam: 9/28/2015 9:42:15 PMNot necessarily. People who don't study anything aren't always poor

The ONLY subjects worth studying in 2015 are science, math, engineering, computer programming, accounting or business
Still pretty much agree with this, with regards to making money, though
Actually law is a pretty hefty paying field, and when partnered with international business related jobs, German is a super useful language.
-
2 RepliesLaw??? LAW??? Dude, you're misinformed. A JD means you can take the Bar. Pass that and start billing at a minimum of $150 an hour. Each year you practice adds $25 an hour. Yes, you have loans. But so too does doctors or anyone else with an advanced degree.

Dun worry bruh. When we send Engra over to your house to traumatize you, you can come to me for psychological counseling ;)

I'm a neuroscientist

4 RepliesI love it when people broadly bash art, because what they're bashing on is creativity and design. Art encompasses everything down to the very thing you'll reply to this post on. Clothing, electricals, TV, film, websites, cars, beds, sofas, your house, the damn font you're using etc etc somewhere along the line a creative person was involved. What you really mean to do is bash on a particular area of art, like modern art. -blam!- studying that, just go make something. But studying animation, graphic design, product design etc are all viable areas. Sure you could make more money elsewhere but junior doctors in the uk can make more money being a manager of a clothes store. Point being some people do it for the money, some do it for their enjoyment. But next time you bash on art, think about what you're actually bashing and be specific :)

2 RepliesBut... But... Art is what took us out of the dark ages!

3 RepliesMy head hurts from reading this bullshit
-
12 RepliesYou forgot about 70% of math is unecessary. You need history. You need art. You need psychology. You need Law. Ignoramus.
-
3 Repliesdespite that I would argue that the major's you listed are still important even though you might not make much money in pursuing them (Especially Law, Art, and history). personally I majored in History and regret nothing as I have a good job. History is an important subject as far as I am concerned because if we don't learn from the mistakes of the past we will end up repeating them.

I'd honestly agree with OP. I worked an entry level job a few years ago when I was halfway through my accounting degree and those I worked with already had bachelor's in sociology and psychology and said they had no idea where to get a job.
-
Yea no; ALL of the fields you mentioned; Just the salary of a college teacher in those fields is between 5,000$ and 18,000$ PER MONTH so yea just TEACHING (those who cant DO, TEACH) is enough to be moderate middle class

4 RepliesFalse, Japanese is incredibly useful in the business world.
ANYTHING TO DO WITH GENDER, SOCIAL ISSUES, OR WOMEN.
Someone finally said it.

3 RepliesSays the idiot who misspelled programming and didn't include any medical profession within his opinionated list with little credible evidence. Some of you kids need to get out of the welfare line.

2 RepliesYou should add Classical Studies...

Edited by Hoggs Bison: 9/28/2015 12:22:05 AMY'all need to graduate to that next level STEM superiority complex. Start getting into the real nitty-gritty of mocking people's concentrations and graduate level. "Wow, you only got your Bachelor's in Biology?" "Should IE majors really be considered Engineering majors?" "You got funding for that thesis?" You can't just limit yourself to feeling better than non-STEM majors, guys. There's a whole new world of Being Better Than Others out there. Once you're done with this level, you can move on to Making Fun Of People For Their Shitty Jobs.

1 ReplyI already have a plan for my future, I'm going to study computer programming or engineering. IMO, history is fun to learn and good to know about, but absolutely useless unless you want to be a 4th grade teacher
-
Computer programming is a good job yes. Most jobs in the computer science field is good
