It is now proven that ODST uses health packs instead of a CoD like regeneration health system. For proof check out the begining of the gameplay when he jumps out of the drop pod he gets hurt and his health bar shrinks to red and he walks over a health pack and his health goes back up to green.
This may have already been posted but I have been at work all day sorry.
Here is a link to the video.

Points of Interest:
1:28 - Rook jumps out of drop pod and gets hurt.
Walks for 15 seconds with no regeneration of health.
1:44 - Rook walks over a white box and instantly health goes all the way up.
Case closed.

its called stamina but the "box" he walked over to me looked like a white jar

That was definately a health pack. It was just the angle that he was looking at it. The screen even flashed white for a second due to picking it up. Bungie wouldn't make your screen flash white when your health regenerates over time. That would just be annoying and they didn't do it in Halo 2 and 3. It's a health pack.

I recognized that instantly.

Seriously, they don't have MJOLNIR armor, it doesn't regenerate. Did you see the ODST's regenerating their health in Halo 3? No. I think much was obvious.
This is a video game, and game play is more important. The current consensus is that regenerating health = better, especially for multi-player.
Posted by: Batts420 Dude look reaaaallllll close...It's a BOTTLE OF PILLS (much like the ones in L4D) soo maybe they are using "health-packs"....
well whether it is a health pack or pills, it definitely isnt a regenerating shield. :- (

ODSTs don't have shields, but their armor is stronger... I think... [Edited on 06.01.2009 9:31 PM PDT]

I have never seen a health pack that regenerated my health after being shot multiple times either.

There might be health packs but that video clearly shows what appears to be regenerating health. Which makes sense as that's how it was for the ODSTs in Halo 3.

It angers me that i have to wait this long....I DONT WANA PLAY ANYTHING ELSE!
-
cant say i didnt see this coming, but i was really hoping for the regeneration style. since it was incorporated in 2, it just feels....halo, you know? when i went back and played halo1, the health packs just seemed foreign. i understand this is a marine, doesnt have the special armor and everything... but blah.... regeneration ftw
Still they should have done a regenerating health system, heres a list of games that dont have characters with regenerating shields but still have regenerating health: Rainbow Six Call of Duty Gears of War Far Cry and there are plenty more and these are all hits.
Your point? Regenerating Health is practically Regenerating Shields. I've played CoD4 and Far Cry2 and from what I can tell from those two games is that they are no different from the shield system of Halo 3. Medkits make sense and what's more it reinforces the point that You Are Not Master Chief, you need to be careful about what you engage, you can't run in taking accurate shots while you brush off the odd Brute Spiker round and then take down a Chieftain with your nimble reflexes and speed, those days are over in ODST. The biggest change, I think, in ODST will be your size in relation to enemies. Your character is going to be around the 6foot high mark, presumably, whereas Brutes will be around 9feet tall in relation to you. Hunters will be quite intimidating, I presume. Something that is almost as tall as a double decker bus and weighs over 10,000lb and can easily keep up with Master Chief's jogging pace (Marine pace probably 3/4 sprint or full sprint, sprinting with full-gear is not easy).

that didn't look like a health pack though. It was rounded so it probably was just a can and it just happened that the health regenerated then. It probably just doesn't regenerate as fast as the other halos
Posted by: bashmeister boooooooooo! i hated the health packs in halo 1 and health packs are so lame. well im going to get cod mw2 instead of odst now. thx for reviving the UNpopular health system that was in halo 1.
Sounds like someone needs a hug. I actually like health packs. It promotes the idea of having to strike quickly and effeciently without losing as much health rather than go in guns blazing then retreating quickly to regain your shield and repeating the process.

My guess is that it employs a system similar to Halo: CE, where there is a small rechargeable shield, but after that is depleted you lose some health and have to pick up a health pack to regenerate that.
