Why aren't there any specifics on what constitutes "using in rapid succession?" Are we supposed to just guess that we've waited enough time between uses as to not waste them entirely? And that's IF there's really a drop rate reduction on what seems to be a variable amount of time of which they vaguely address. Is this whole "hot fix" a ruse to deter us from farming Draksis out of fear we could be wasting them? To steer us towards the strikes they clearly want us spending more time in? Where's the quantifiable data? The stats.
From my observations, It seems as though hotfixes are always accompanied by data. "Skill X has now been altered for Y effect instead of Z" etc. You get it if you've read any of them. But this hotfix is soft. Like, "Oh we don't like the drop rate so no more using them in rapid succession" AS DEFINED BY WHAT?
EDIT: As of Friday the exact drop rates and cool down are still undetermined. However, people who have continued to farm Draksis have reported the chance of exotic drop to have gone from 1:7 to 1:11 in 100 runs. The percentage drop appears to be approximately 5%, from 14%>9%. If you have the coins to spend, it is worth your TIME to farm Draksis as you will still net more exotics per hour. If it's your preference to run strikes, go ahead. Play as you please. I just want to spread the information Bungie has withheld.
Remember people. Bungie isn't out on a righteous mission to provide us with entertainment, they're making money. Its a business. They want you in strikes playing longer. The longer you play, the more money they make. This is why they facilitate the "forever grind" mechanics and systems. If anyone would like to submit statistics on their run results, please do so.
EDIT #2 - RESULTS
I just finished running draksis 40 times, the old fashioned way (rocket to the face)
Here's how it went:
Run 2: Exotic Helmet Engram
-Skyburners Annex 290
Run 17: Exotic Primary Engram
-Hawkmoon 290
Run 29: Exotic Gauntlet Engram
-Sealed Ahamkara Grasps 290
Run 40: Exotic Primary Engram, Sublime Engram
-Zhalo Supercell 290, Neuroghast 1.0 legs
WAS IT WORTH IT?
Yes and No, here's why.
While the exotic drop rate has definitely decreased it is still a viable way to farm exotics. 4 exotics in 40 runs puts the "rapid succession" drop rate somewhere around 10% and a Strange Coin cost at 56 (14 each). With two of the items being weapons it was an overall net savings over what those items would have cost directly through Xur. While it no longer feels like it's Christmas, the drop rates are nothing to scoff at for the time saved by avoiding strikes. Additionally, I believe that if these new hot-fix percentages were the initial figures deployed last week people would have farmed draksis, or the other quick bosses, in the same manner they did originally and thought nothing of how "low the drop rates are." Where else could you have obtained an exotic every 20 minutes pre-TTK? There are also other benefits to this tactic besides only obtaining exotics. If you kill the Kell's Guard before Draksis you can collect a large amount of House Banners, and also Ether Seeds, the latter of which can be traded with Variks for heavy synth and subsequently applied to faction rep. With strikes now awarding a very low amount of faction rep it is without a doubt more efficient to farm the Draksis room simply for ether seeds and house banners.
Ultimately if you're looking to maximize your return on investment from the ToC then strike playlists are the way to go, especially with the additional engrams that drop throughout. On the other hand, if you are looking to obtain exotics quickly, the Draksis method reigns, albeit at a higher coin cost.
The Verdict:
No regrets. 4 exotics in a little over an hour at a slightly less than Xur retail cost is still a good deal in my book. I used half of my coins tonight and will use the other half on the strikes I typically run throughout the week post-reset. With the farming drop results and side benefits I see no point in grinding hours upon hours of strikes for the sole purpose of using the ToC.
Side note: I found it rather ironic that two of the items I obtained were currently being sold by Xur, but again the overall cost was last than if I had bought them directly.
Side-side note: Draksis has THE worst aim of any boss in the game. Completely useless, 8 eyes and a shotgun with a 10ft. spread and he'd still find "shooting fish in a barrel" to be a major challenge.

9 RepliesSince the latest patch, Valus Ta'aurc no longer gives even rare ( Blue ) Engrams after killing him... Just wondering if anyone has received an Exotic Engram from Valus as of late? Or if it is just a wasted buff to use our ToC's on Valus..

When's the best time to use the coins? As soon as you enter the strike? Just before you get to the boss?

1 ReplyEdited by Drak: 9/26/2015 1:30:14 AMI'm going to keep updating this post but I believe OP is correct. This is my findings. 7 strikes - 1 engram 9 story ultra's (speed running) - 2 engrams Even though the chance is lower, the time saved it much better, and strikes don't actually seem to help benefit at all, with the time you're wasting.

Its like 5 mins

1 ReplyBush did 3 of Coins
-
I spent 40 in strikes. Got 2 alpha lupi for Titan and 2 4th horsemen. Seems same chance...... Also I'm a lock so I hate those chests
-
1 Replyyou have to kill draksis with a headshot. but his head must move "back and to the left" in order to guarantee an exotic drop (it helps if there is a second shooter)
-
5 RepliesHow are they making money by me playing longer? I fail to see this logic. I payed $40 for the expansion and $20 for the collectors add on. That's it period. Wether I play 20 mins or 20 days I still payed the same. Bungie makes no more and no less from how long o decide to play. There is no in game micro purchase....unless I missed something. BTW thanks for the good info on the drop rate.

I believe that Bungie worded this poorly. I think what they meant to say is that if you are rapidly killing ultras, ie farming Draksis (or any other farmable ultra) the chance that an exotic engram will drop is slightly decreased. Use them as Bungie intended, ie strikes and court or oryx etc, and they will function exactly as they did prior to the patch.

I've used 10 3oC one by one in Heroic Strikes and got nothing so far
-
From my experience so far, after only 15 coins, I'm getting about half the amount of exotics. I guess to be more specific I bought 15 ToC the first week and, using one per draksis kill, I got 4 exotics. After patch I ran 15 full strikes, again using 1 coin per strike, and got 2 exotics. Although with such a small number it's hard to say what's luck and what's rng.

31 RepliesHow does Bungie make more money the more we play? Once we buy the game we aren't paying Bungie anything else. There are no advertisements in game, does Xbox and Sony pay out to the games being played online?
-
Fair point, didn't think of this.
-
I haven't had a problem ran 36 vanguard strikes about 8-9 using 3 of coins once per run and ended up with 4 engrams so if you run strikes chances are basically same as before the nerf.
-
Bin doing drakis and had a exotic 3 times seems every 5 coins I've had one and that's doing it the old way
-
Farmed 20 coins yielded 4 exotics and 1 legendary that also turned exotic.
-
3 Replies12 ToC doing heroic strikes(yes i was taking my time just to be sure) and no exotic engram, a lot of legendary engrams but no exotic.
-
Ive gotten one exotic in every five three of coins ive used before and after patch ! Same drop rate on draksis

1 ReplySo what is the best way to actually get exotics from using the three of coins I'm sort of confused on how to use them and do the bosses in the court of oryx count as the right boss or not
-
From what I've heard it is a 5 minute cool down similar to heavy synths so strikes aren't too bad of an idea
-
The grind is in fact real.

11 RepliesThe ratio in your edit cannot be taken seriously unless thousands were involved in compiling the data. I have gotten 9 exotics out of 35 tries. That's about a 25% drop rate
-
3 RepliesMany people finish strikes in around 10min, but one couldn't be sure so maybe 7-8 min before You use the next? I will try this with 5min gaps.

1 ReplyEdited by RenderFX: 9/25/2015 6:07:11 PMIt's annoying, but it makes sense. Being vague with the rules & weapon/armor perks slows down players' ability to find and latch onto the most efficient strategies and loadouts. Once everyone figures out what works best, the game becomes another farming run & Thorn-fest. Personally, I'll just pop a 3 of coins, play the game, try to have some fun, and let the exotics fall where they may.
