So etheric light is useless now. What about a way to keep it rare and useful, while solving the problem of year one gear?
What if etheric light can be used to upgrade year one gear to year two? I have a couple methods on how this could work
Method 1
Keep etheric light as a Poe reward and allow it to raise the level of year one gear (armor and weapons) by one tier (so like 170-180) and getting to ttk Max (290-310 or whatever it is) would require 3-5 e light. that way you can keep your year one gear relevant, it will just take a lot of extra work. More so than just buying a piece of new gear
Method 2*
Take out etheric light from the game all together and turn it into a year one "thanks" item. In this method, since you can't attain any more light, it would raise the level of one piece of year one gear to middle tier ( 280) that way you can continue to enjoy your weapons and finding armor isn't such a hassle because you have decent armor but ultimately you'll have to get better taken king armor if you want to Max out.
*note with this method there are people who have a ton of e light so it would be limited to 10 items per character Max (30 e light total) and the rest could just go to xp when you dismantle them
What do you guys think?

I haven't even considered doing Poe in months. Maybe if etheric light had a year 2 purpose.... Here's an idea: etheric light fully maxes out the XP on any weapon or armor. It doesn't alter its light, just unlocks all the upgrades. Not a game breaker, just a convenience. They'll never go for an idea that involved ascending year 1 gear.

1 ReplyDismantle etheric light into a bunch of motes of light the only thing thats logical considering they are lights or trade them for strange coins to make them relevant
-
3 RepliesDismantling it should give you an legendary Engram or 15-19 legendary marks
-
1 etheric light= 25 strange coins. There u go.

1 ReplyBumping because people are starting to miss their gear lol

1 ReplyFraction rep please.

Gotta move on. They aren't going to bring y1 gear to y2

3 RepliesEdited by SaltyJack591: 9/25/2015 5:19:44 PMI don't think so, most players are too high a level now. That will steamroll the POE content and where would be the challenge in that. Look, I was angry when I found out year 1 wasn't moving forward. I did get over it thou and deleted all my year 1 gear and weapons. Most of us hoard our loot and that's probably a bad thing when you look at a long term game. Ten years of hoarding and Bungie having to support all that loot going forward is an absurd concept and would consume too many resources to manage. Plus I remember the hastle trying to get enough shards to level up 23 exotic weapons plus all the exotic gear. A task I don't relish having to do ever again. So I say just let go of the past and get used to the idea that we are going to have to start from scratch every year.
-
1 Reply-blam!- no. All gear 1 except exotics should be left behind.

They purposely hid year 1 gear away for a reasons. Things were getting over powered. People would reroll the same handful of weapons to be the perfect gun Things were unbalanced. Now they're trying to resolve some of that by starting fresh with future content. Where applicable some old year 1 guns got a year 2 equivalent. Like spare change pulse rifle.

5 RepliesPeople need to get over year 1 weapons. New year new weapons. Make memories now that u guys have made for year 1!

Edited by fangfireskull: 9/25/2015 1:02:43 PMI think it should be a consumable that increases strike exclusive item item drop rates. Just my opinion.
-
Absolutely not. They trashed most of the year one items for good reason.

Make it an item for an xp buff
-
Would rather they patch it to buff any weapon at max stats for year 2.

Personally I would love a higher level PoE, maybe have one of those give away a specific item that bumps year one gear to year two. Even if it was at the lowest possible rating, like 200, and to ascend you needed to use etheric light (kind of like how exotics use an exotic shard) in order to bring it up. Those who have lots would be able to use lots but those who didn't would still need to to keep PoE relevant. It would still make the process slow enough that we aren't spamming all our old stuff but still letting us do it. Maybe even require a weapon/armour core to do it. Though I would rather Variks start selling year two gear for those.

2 RepliesEdited by Der Sheff: 9/25/2015 12:03:40 AMThis would be my recipe for ascending year one gear: Armor: 16 ascendant shards, 16 radiant shards, 10 motes of light, 1 Etheric light, 16 armor parts, 10 legendary marks, 16 worm spore, 1 armor core (PoE). Maybe even add in an infused light core that Xur will sell for 7 coins. Weapons: 16 ascendant energies, 16 radiant energies, 10 motes of light, 1 Etheric light, 16 weapon parts, 10 legendary marks, 16 worm spore, 1 weapon core (PoE). And the infused light core that Xur will sell for 7 coins (from above)...

I think leaving behind year 1 gear is okay. I'm not going to miss it that much after playing with the TTK gear.
-
2 RepliesOrrrr let us exchange the shit instead of having to delete most of the shit we worked so hard and diligently for in year 1
-
2 RepliesThe problem with these methods is that we already grinded for year 1 weapons and armor. Increasing the grind to that degree makes it feel like even more time wasted. We already worked for those items, we should be able to infuse them if we want to. I can't stand Bungie's design philosophy of changing whole mechanics and parts of their "finished/packaged/sold" game if and when they see players not playing how they want us to play. If the changes are making the game more enjoyable, not removing fun aspects, or are fixing game breaking bugs, then I'm for that. But Bungie sees a player use a strategy to cheese(I mean this as a legitimate way to complete some challenge within the confines of the game's design, not hacking or cheating) a section of the game and they shoot out a patch for it as quickly as possible. All the while bugs that completely break the game remain since day one. If some player wants to cheese, then they should be able to use their cheese strategy. If a player wants to use the same guns/armor for 10 years, they should be able to(as was promised and used as a selling point from the beginning). If Bungie wants us to use new weapons/armor, create them with worthwhile perks/abilities. Bungie, step up your game. Communicate with your community. Stop -blam!-ing us over with your poor design decisions. #infusionforall

6 RepliesMake it able to infuse, not asend

I think a mix of both methods is best. More options, ya Know? I'd love to take a few pieces of old gear forward with me for their looks, but I'd also like to bring current gear up a peg. Good idea
-
I'd just like them to add 3 light to any piece of gear with a limit at 305 or something but that's probably a few houndred hours of work just to add a small feature
-
At least let us ascend raid weapons

It a shame that Bungle doesn't consider some great ideas brought to the table. And when they do, they never give credit for implementing them.
