I just feel like they don't have a purpose relevant to their classification. Shotguns can barely reach Golgoroth from the Reclaimed Light Fruit Drop, and Fusion Rifles don't benefit from precision shots. (Not sure if it will still scale 'as if' it did on Golgoroth's belly crit spot, but I know Immobius could barely reach Golgoroth with more than a pellet or two.)
I just feel like, for as much as these weapons are even bothered with and made, they don't really serve a purpose other than minion-killing. But our Primary is for this, mostly, so it just doesn't seem right. This Expansion is completely like the others in that, a very specific type of weapon has become the prominent and main tool with any actual useful effect during the fights.
I actually had a guide recommend Shotguns but honestly, it's not worth the struggle to run back and forth between the pool and Golgoroth. To do so means I'm running in front of my teammate's line of sight and possibly obscuring their view. I just honestly don't like the fact most Secondary weapons don't work well for this boss.
More people seem to be suggesting Snipers because there's less downtime on DPS and hitting Fruits should be easier and quicker, but the Shotgun is useless for knocking down Fruits but Fusion Rifles might be worth a shot here. I'll definitely be considering it more heavily as opposed to Immobius, but I won't be surprised if it takes a Sniper just to clear it.
Sidearms on the other hand seem to be perfectly suited for Golgoroth, and yet so far as I can tell there isn't a Raid Sidearm! Why not, if this weapon is probably the second best to only Sniper Rifles for the range required to actually register hits on the bosses from a medium distance away? It just seems funky.
I will be testing these weapons types and trying to find out where and when they can be used, but Shotgun range is gimped for Golgoroth and pretty much every boss, and Fusion Rifles will have accuracy problems at similar ranges+the problem of no scaling damage (except when buffs are applied.) But I hope this feedback is taken seriously; I want Bungie to be proud of the weapons they released, not content to think 'they look cool' and let them gather dust while we resort to the same type of weapons we've relied upon since Vanilla.
Or if Bungie would like to say they're good enough for me, that'd be reassuring too. Or maybe if the community thought so? I got the Raid Fusion Rifle at 303 and my knee jerk reaction was to Dismantle or Infuse it. Because not only do Fusion Rifles suffer, but this one is low charge rate, which means heavy dps phases can't rely on it to be fast as it needs to be I'd wager. It's an apparent problem I've been struggling to answer; which item type is truly better; can sheer light level with less-than-perfect items still mean success? Or is the dps race tuned to lock out this sort of second-best tactic?
Nothing from the Raid should give that kind of feeling on the first go around, Bungie. I know you know this, and feel the same way. How couldn't you? I won't be monitoring this thread much but I hope to hear from someone! Maybe they've got the numbers down and it's not that bad.

Fusion rifles are great in Golroth encounter. I personally use Hawkmoon on Gol's crit spot. Utilise my fusion for taking out boomers for my group. Good range, garunteed kill, no risk of death from explosions.
