Yeah ion-thrusters are still in prototype stages but so far CERT and Deep space 1 have been going pretty well so we'll have to wait and see.

I think that the future looks really bright. I wish they would stop cutting NASA's funding though. I think we can do a lot of great things if we can focus on certain aspects of our role as space explorers.
