I have made preparations.
If I am defeated I know it will be because my understanding of the universe was incomplete. I failed to anticipate some strategy, some nemesis. (Perhaps Taox, if she still lives.)
If I am defeated, I know that I will fall to something mighty. Something that craves might, something that loves what I love, which is the Deep, a principle and a power, the versatile, protean need to adapt and endure, to reach out and shape the universe entirely for that purpose, to mutate and redesign and test and iterate so that it can prevail, can seize existence and hold it, certain that this is everything, that there is nothing to life except living. And it has two faces, yet it is one shape. One face is the objective, which is obvious, and the other face is that will to sacrifice things and ideas for a single mission, the mission of becoming the shape, a shape that will not relent, the utter commitment to survival, to draw the right sword and choose where to cut: to allow this hunger to become your weapon.
So I will prepare a book, which is a map to a weapon. And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going. And then they will take up my weapon, and they will use it, they will use that weapon, which is all that I am.
And armed thus with my past, and my future, and my present (which is a weapon, a weapon that takes whatever is available, a weapon bound to malice), they will mantle me, Oryx, the Taken King.
They will become me and I will become them, each of us defeating the other, correcting the other, alloying ourselves into one omnipotent philosophy. Thus I will live forever.
I’ll make sure.

8 RepliesIt all makes sense now The touch of malice is of course that weapon Guided by the books Eris was able to build this weapon, and we collected the pages and materials to build it The Touch Of Malice has the same sword logic as the hive in that the last round will make you stronger, but it will also try to kill you, and if it kills you, you learn from it and kill more with it instead of the touch of malice killing you By building this ancient weapon you are holding the past, present, and future of the legacy of the great taken King Oryx and being a holder of this weapon is the identification of someone who is TRUELY mightier than the king who communed with the deep. With the touch of malice, your encounters in life will be tested by the sword logic buried deep in the heart of oryx himself

7 RepliesJust read through all of these, the Hive are more jacked up than I thought. It's awesome that TTK gave us a full backstory on the origins of the Hive too, very interesting read, and concept. But the fact that somehow magically Aurash turned from a female into a male, yeah, interesting...

8 RepliesFascinating. The Hive are much more powerful than I thought. And I thought they were pretty powerful. There is one small concern for me, however. And it's just a theory. Oryx is coming back. We did kill him. In his throne room. We destroyed him in the one way known to kill that powerful of a Hive God. But didn't two other Hive Gods come back when Oryx made war and trickery? So the same could be said for what Oryx represents. Otherwise it all is a lot to take in but makes sense. The Vex weren't created by the Hive but they were granted a good deal of their power by studying the Hive. But the Mind couldn't come up with an outcome that enabled victory. Meaning the Vex still haven't figured it out. The Hive are the closest thing to the Darkness we have encountered. Even over the Taken. The Hive come from a gas giant planet that has 52 moons. They lived inside of the planet on the barrier where the gas turned to liquid. Back then, they lived incredibly short lives and were considerably weak, even compared to humanity. Three sisters, after having their father killed and being exiled, agreed to an arrangement where worms would lay their larvae inside them in order to grant them powers. Mainly immortality. They then proceeded to wage war on the one who usurped their throne. The war raged on, powerful figures making appearances, including an ancient life form called the Leviathan and the Traveler blessing the sixth moon. The Hive are victorious after learning an advanced science that would be akin to magic. The three sisters talk with the worms and the Darkness, learning that they are to cleanse the universe. They escape off world and begin to destroy countless planets and solar systems, focusing on hunting down the Traveler. As they hunt, they get more powerful. As they get more powerful, the worms inside them get so hungry they cannot feed them anymore. Two decided to abandon immortality in order for the last to gain the strength to live. The last one becomes so powerful, he kills their own god (one of them) and uses the tablets forged from the god's destruction in order to connect directly with the Darkness. This last one now is so powerful, he bends the rules of the universe and, in a battle, is granted back his two siblings. They continue their conquest, gaining more powerful and a unique method to sating their worm's hunger in the form of tithes from the lower rungs of society. The most powerful, now named Oryx, decides to have children and expand his influence further. He takes preference over one and trusts the destruction of the Traveler to him. The son opens a tear in the universe, allowing the Vex to flood their dimension. The Vex began to study the Hive and, by the time are forced back, have gained much power and knowledge. Oryx takes the Mind leading the Vex against the Hive and gives it to one of his daughters as a gift. A toy really. Beyond that, Oryx begins to doubt his power. He depends on his children and is fearful he won't survive without them, even with his unmatched power. Then we kill Crota. You know the rest. I miss anything?

3 Replies-Oryx makes the Books of Sorrow -Books of Sorrow separated into 50 fragments -Oryx prepares pieces for/makes/is(?) the Touch of Malice Isn't it weird that you have to find the calcified fragments AND kill Oryx to get the Touch of Malice? I think that Oryx possibly but a piece of himself in the Touch of Malice so that if he died, he could come back in the form of ToM.
But it's just a theory...
1 ReplyBut, his assumption failed because he was defeated by 'servants of the Light.' shame on you, Oryx.

1 ReplyHow do I get this fragment

7 RepliesAt first the light is described as evil, with the traveler arranging the syzygy and the great wave which would inevitably kill them off. Then aurash supposedly embraces the opposite, deep, or darkness, but then goes on to pursue the same goals of mass extinction that originally characterized the traveler. Doesn't it seem like a contradiction that both the sky and deep inevitably pursue the same goal, or am I misunderstanding something?

3 RepliesSo I would say that the ball of darkness in the malice is maybe supposed to symbolize our worm and that our pact is to kill and if we do not kill efficiently enough to regain our health through the touch of mercy perk then our worm will devour us. May be a little far fetched though lol

Great read, 4 more fragment a to go for me (three still undiscovered), I'm hoping there is anther great reward at 50/50!
